I’ve never played a Far Cry game before – so here’s my quick review for Far Cry 6 from a complete newcomer’s perspective.

While I have not played a Far Cry game before, I am familiar with Ubisoft bloat – where you have a decent base game with all the fundamentals on lock and then just an explosion of extra, oftentimes unnecessary stuff on top of it. That perfectly describes my experience with Far Cry 6.

Take the weapon system for example. There are dozens upon dozens of different weapons to choose from and this entire crafting and weapon modification system on top of it. On paper, that sounds great – but in practice, it was basically a waste because I hardly ever needed to use it. Even 20 hours into the game, the weapons I started with were just as strong as the new weapons I was receiving and I never needed to add new modifications – it just felt like I was picking up crafting material for nothing.

Part of this is due to the difficulty – of which there is “Action Mode” and “Story Mode”. Action Mode is supposed to be the more difficult of the two, but I found it to be far too easy. I would just land in an enemy base, one tap all of the enemies with headshots and be done with it – having hardly taken any damage. In my 20-something hours so far, I maybe died five or six times total.

So while it may be a bit too easy, that doesn’t necessarily mean it is not fun. If anything, I enjoyed the base combat. The different guns felt great to use, I loved trying out the different vehicles, and combat abilities added a nice flare to it all. It’s just a shame that it never felt challenging – perhaps a harder difficulty mode is something Ubisoft can add later on.

Story-wise, the game is just okay. It’s your traditional “long live the revolution”-type story with these small guerrilla groups working to take down the island government. There are a couple twists and turns, but nothing too spectacular here – it honestly reminded me a lot of Just Cause 2.

My favorite thing about the game is actually with its map. This is one of those open-world games where there is a TON of stuff to discover. Sometimes I’ll be on my way to a mission and end up taking down this massive military base or uncovering a hidden cache of uranium to build my next cool weapon. It is very easy to get sidetracked and I really liked the mix of urban and tropical environments. You get your cities with their tanks and anti-air and all that, but your jungles with crocodiles and ziplines too. Some very nice variety there and I can easily see myself spending dozens of hours simply exploring it all.

And as I played on PC – I should note the port. It’s a pretty difficult game to run and I had to play at 1080p medium settings on my 1070 Ti just to maintain 60 fps. It usually hovered between 60-80, but it did occasionally dip below (and story cutscenes seemed to be locked to 30 fps regardless). I expected this given the system requirements, but be sure to give them a look yourself before giving it a shot. Otherwise, it ran without issue – no crashes, no freezing, and even no major bugs. Yeah, I had the occasional floating object or funky ragdoll, but I was surprised at how polished it was otherwise.

And that’s pretty much my experience with Far Cry 6 thus far. It’s your typical Ubisoft bloat with tons of unnecessary mechanics and all, but at least the core experience is fun (albeit a little too easy). Combat’s good, vehicles are cool, map design is excellent – I had a good time even as a newcomer to the series. The story is self-contained anyways, so that’s not a problem if you are in the same boat.

I’d say it’s worth a light recommendation. Definitely not something you should buy on launch (or even with a slight discount), but if you can get a pretty good deal on it – it is a fun enough time to warrant giving it a shot.

Revolutionise the formula next time, please.

Another Far Cry with the same formula as the others, but still really fun to play. The introduction of special weapons and supremos did change up the play style in a unique way. Can't wait for the DLC involving the past game villains, as well as upcoming free content like Danny Trejo and the crossover with Stranger Things.

considering how female employees are treated at ubisoft it's kinda insulting that they're pretending to care with this one

shitty game with one of the worst stories in video game history and an even shittier ending
and what the hell was this bullshit after the credits?
am i supposed to be like: "yeah omg ubisoft you are so smart"?
and what is wrong with their lame character writing
all of the female characters give me the impression that ubisoft once READ about women in a book but never actually seen one of them in real life
and the way they treat their trans characters is straight up disrespectful

a hot sexy man bought this for me so its pretty good so far on that merit alone. Secret ending was also funny and chorizo is super cute. Plus Danny Trejo is in this

Didn't even need to finish the game to know it's kusoge

Another year, another Far Cry. Far Cry 5 is my least favorite entry in the series, following up my second least favorite numbered entry, Far Cry 4. So I wasn’t expecting much from this. Yet I had fun playing it because of the cool new systems in place and I found the plot somewhat compelling (mostly the great performance from Giancarlo Esposito). The world kept pulling me back in too even as I started feeling burned out by the length and repetition of the side activities. I still haven’t played a better Far Cry than 3, but this is a step in the right direction for the franchise going forward. I’m including the writing in that assessment, even if it does sacrifice real representation in its attempt at moral complexity.

A new low point for Ubisoft. It's a bit fun starting off, although the jank is apparent from the very beginning. It doesn't take long for everything to wear thin though, as you'll be doing the same exact things over and over and over, whether it be for the main missions or side content. The story is generic nonsense, with plenty of unlikable characters thrown at you nonstop. Giancarlo Esposito surprisingly didn't phone it in - his performance is great, the highlight of the game even, but you even get sick of him by the end when the story completely turns to shit.

As the warning goes "don't fix what isn't broken" and the track record of the Far Cry series has been fixed one too many times. A bloated mess of new features that synergize as well as a fox and a chicken coop.

This both simplifies and complicates all of the systems that made Far Cry 3 and 4 great. The story and characters are set-ups for something interesting, but mostly fall flat.

A great game to listen to podcasts/watch other stuff on a second screen with, though!

This is cancer in video game form.
It's a fucking joke, it's the lowest effort I've ever seen in any open-world game to date.
It's not even like all they did was just copy and paste; because they didn't. They made changes that somehow make the open-world even duller then it already was.
There is no progression to you're character, whatsoever. At the start of the game all the way to the end you'll be at the same power level doing the same things for nearly 60 to 70 hours.
The story is dull and boring while the game treats it as if it's some sort of grand narrative, its head is so far up its own ass it's pathetic.
The backdrop is just Far Cry 3 but somehow looks worse, like wow for a Next Gen game this looks like ass.
the new characters are all just the same boilerplate "crazy person who loves needless want and destruction", the companies system from FC5 are all pretty much unless now since a lot of them don't do shit
the gathering supplies system from FCND is back but feels more grindy since the system was made around making you wanna buy the supplies with real world money, but since it's not here it all just feels like a slog.

This game deserves to be shunned and laugh at. We shouldn't be ok with the game coming out like this. If I'm gonna be paying 70 dollars for games from now on we deserve better.
This game is a proof of concept; that you can make a game so devoid of content, so devoid of meaning, so utterly devoid of a purpose, and it'll still sell.

No more, I'm so fucking tired of it and it needs to change.

More of the same with some weird mechanics to make it worse somehow. I don't understand why they thought the rank system was a good idea, it lowers the feeling of progression by a staggering amount. The guns feel lightweight and useless if not the right level, while others feel fantastic. The world simultaneously feels full of life and void of anything to do. It's just such a mixed bag with more bad than good. The missions I've played so far have all been exactly the same, but aren't necessarily completely boring. The gameplay is the still addictive, shoot em up, freedom we're used to, but that's the point, we're used to it. Time to move on.

Far Cry 5 was the worst entry in the series that also came at a bad time. Far Cry had grown long in the tooth by that time and, ironically, didn’t mix well with Far Cry 5’s overwhelming toothlessness; it was a dual-pronged odor that even infected the forgettable expandalone Far Cry New Dawn. Ubisoft’s latest entry in the series, Far Cry 6, isn’t a total reinvention worthy enough to make up for those transgressions, but is the most streamlined and expansive version of that established formula.

First Impressions (didn’t pay for it my brother is a fan of this series so him buying it was an inevitablity)

Meh.

Literally nothing special. Nothing to it. Story’s meh, gameplay is nothing special, but reload animations are solid.

Also wtf the sound design on PS5 is so bad, there was literally no audio from characters for the first few cutscenes and the slide audio sounds compressed

If you already played a Far Cry, then you know what to expect. Ubisoft would't change a winning formula.

Is it bug free? No. But does it have quality of life gameplay improvements? Also no. BUT did they fix the AI so that your companions don't wander aimlessly giving away your position, or so that random civilians don't run in front of your car on the road? No, no, obviously they didn't do any of that. It's the old far cry, with better graphics.

That being said, if you don't enjoy gunning down people while Ricky Martin plays on the radio, and your character sings along to "living la vida loca", then your life is sad and you should feel bad.

As a lot of reviews has mentioned, this game is more of the same usual Far Cry formula. While I find the setting and vibes a bit more in-line with my interests, the game just feels kind of soulless with the same dumb NPCs running around and a giant world full of bases to take over with your animal friend.

The added mechanics (gun customization, bullet type distinction, base building and supremos) all feel like it doesn't really add meaningful impact to the game and frankly feels like a chore. You also run into silly situations where you're shooting someone's face with a 50 cal machine and its doing minimal damage because it's not the "correct" type of bullet.

It does look incredibly nice though!

I actually thought this was a solid entry into the Far Cry series. I really enjoyed the story and cast of characters were very enjoyable throughout the journey. I would have given this game an 8 but the matter of the fact is the gameplay really hasn't evolved much and while still fun it doesn't really do much difference for me. Overall very good far cry game though.

Far Cry has always been a guilty pleasure to me. The open worlds are wacky fun and there is a ton of stuff to do (can be a negative or positive for some). Far Cry 6 brings some of the same vibes from FC3. The villain was great however I felt the story dragged on a bit too long. This is more of the Far Cry formula and doesn’t change it up, so keep that in mind if you are someone who wishes the series would change. Overall I had an ok time with the game and glad I stuck with it till the end. I feel like the game would be more fun in Co Op with a friend.

I picked this up with the sole intention of dicking around with a friend in co-op, and to that end, I got my money's worth. But that doesn't mean the game itself was any good.

Story wise Farcry 6 starts off as generic as can be, and demands that you take it uber serious, with its "Most menacing villian yet!". But it's really fucking hard to give a shit when half the characters are drunken idiots and I just spent the last 3 hours blowing people up with a fireworks gun and telling my pet chicken to fight a crocodile. Too many serious moments will get undercut by dumb quips or goofy missions and the gameplay just doesn't blend well with the ultra serious tone of the story. Thats not to dismiss the actors however, as the performances here are all really good, especially JonPollo chicken man. It's just a shame that they were given such a generic, half-assed story to work with. Oh yeah and the ending (if you can call it that) sucks ultra mega balls. I really wish Ubisoft would just pick one lane and stick with it. Either go 100% serious, or go 100% goofy. Actually wait no they suck dick at telling serious stories... okay Ubisoft just make everything dumb as shit.

The highlight of this game is definitely the absurdity of the gameplay. Running around with an attack chicken and a bunch of shitty DIY guns is very fun, and should have just been the main focus of this. Though, even that wears thin after about 10 hours as Ubisoft's mission design consists of putting a few enemies in the level and calling it a day. At least the gunplay, sound effects and knife executions have been beefed up from 5, which makes it still relatively enjoyable to just run around killing people.

IDK. Like I said, I didn't really expect too much from this, so I'm really not let down or anything. I had some fun with a friend and thats about all I needed out of this. There's this famous quote from Vaas that I think is really relevant to this game. I believe it goes something like - "Ubisoft? More like fucking poopoo game dev amirite?"

The music does slap tho

The revolution is dead. Long live the revolution.

Pretty run of the mill far cry. Nothing too special. Not a fan of the companion animals as they mostly felt useless. Some areas feel too drawn out and the repetitive nature wears thin by the end.

Empezó bastante divertido, eventualmente la repetitividad y lo estirado de la campaña afectó la experiencia y el puntaje. La actuación de Giancarlo Esposito, top notch

For my first Far Cry game, the sixth entry in the franchise met my expectations as I fought against a powerful dictatorship. I enjoyed this game, and I can see why fans of the franchise like it. It is a good mix of RPG elements and FPS action that engaged me, as well as its brutal and interesting story.

Far Cry 6 is set in the fictional country of Yara, and this setting was great in my opinion. It had good latin American representation while dealing with very interesting political themes. It made me want to understand and dive deeper into Caribbean and latin American history. The story is great in the parts where Giancarlo Esposito appears as Anton Castillo, delivering an amazing performance. The other characters were interesting too, but I wish they were written better.

In terms of gameplay and action, the game was fine. Nothing too groundbreaking but a good opener into this new era of 9th generation consoles. I’d recommend Far Cry 6 if you enjoy these types of Fallout-esque RPG shooters, and I wish I had the time to complete the story as it seems very interesting, but it will have to be another day.

Final Score: 75/100

I don't know if I'll finish this game...

Gameplay:
This is to Far Cry 5 what Just Cause 4 is to Just Cause 3, it's almost identical but tacks on a few small mechanics or gameplay quirks that either add nothing meaningful or just bog things down. The base gameplay is still decent, the main part of the actual play experience I take issue with is the world. FC5 struck this perfect balance of giving you plenty of options for what to do whilst also; 1. Making it a manageable ammount and 2. Making everything feel seperate from each other, with very clearly defined locations and characters. This game does none of that. From the moment you finish the tutorial you're given about ten missions, all of which consist of doing basically the same thing for 8/10 of them (go to place, clear it of enemies), and every time you beat a mission it seems to add three more. The characters are not only numerous but each one is so bland and lacking in personality that for all intents and purposes there aren't any, and the entire map feels like the same place over and over and over with no variety for its entire square-footage. The experience of playing this game feels like beating a level in a linear game and then just hitting restart on the same mission over and over for 60 hours.

Story:
I was legitimately fascinated by the dynamic between the evil dictator and his son, but I haven't seen them for the last 15 hours of my current 20 hour play time. The most boring part of this story is the resistance but that's all you get to see, and as I mentioned in the gameplay section, there's about 100 main characters to follow, and they're all so flat and lacking in any memorable traits that they move past being forgettable and into just being one amalgamated mass of 'who cares'.
It's such a shame too, because not only was FC5s cult legitimately interesting, but the charcaters you interacted with along the way we're really endearing too, and the story of 5 worked as a fantastic metaphor for ignorance and the spread of disinformation in media and isolated communities, and how that can affect anyone (even you). So how does Far Cry 6 follow up 5s great themes? It doesn't.
On the lead-up to release, Ubisoft made it very clear that this game about fighting back against an evil dictatorship would have no political messaging at all, and I foolishly told myself that it was just the same case as the director of Luca saying it's not an LGBT allegory to hide it from Disney execs.
Sadly, I was wrong. This game has absolutely nothing to say, to an almost insulting level. No where is that better exemplified than in the perfect 50/50 split of male and female enemies, because you definitely want to have equal opportunities for who's working for a backwards dictator, and who I'm going to blow the brains out of. It's honestly mind-boggling how you could go so far out of your way to have such a politically charged setup and very intentionally work backwards from the inside to make sure those charges are never allowed to go off.
To be clear about the story, I think Giancarlo Espesito absolutely does a great job, and so does the kid acting his son, I just wish they were actually part of the game in any meaningful capacity.

Art:
Outside of lighting, raw texture quality, some postprocessing and the ammount and quality of lots of effects (particles etc), this is barely a step up from 5, which graphically was barely a step up from 4. I played this on PS5 expecting to be blown away only to be met by mediocrity.
But hey maybe, like 5, they make up for it with the art design?
In Far Cry 5, they perfectly capture the American south, contrasting the beauty of the countryside with the dark violence of the cult, it knew when to be loud and bombastic and when to be minimal and serene. Far Cry 5 had stark, recognisable imagery and a great variety of environments to visit.
Far cry 6, however, decided that it was going to take Mexico (complete with orange filter) and say it was in the Carribbean so they could make absolutely sure you couldn't draw upon any real world conflict that it could be alluding to. You get to fight people in red and white jackets and your choice of environment is rocky mountain or small town next to rocky mountain. Outside of a few statues there is nothing interesting to see, nowhere interesting to go, and nothing to draw you in or feel any sentiment towards whatsoever.

Far Cry 6 is a game that goes out of its way to be nothing. It makes sure not to have any themes or messages, so gives itself no story or setting, it makes sure to have the widest appeal possible and keep you playing for the most possible time, so gives you the most tried-and-true gameplay experience possible and a thousand missions that all consist of the same thing. It's the sequel to the game that should have reinvigorated the franchise, and it is cold and dark and empty.
This could be good to watch a postcast to, but if you want that and a game that's substantive and superior in every way, just play the fantastic and grossly underrated Far Cry 5.

Far Cry 6 has very addictive gameplay. Story is predictable and the guns are kinda hit or miss even tho there is a lot of variety. Villain is nothing special but I enjoyed his presence on screen. Solid and safe game in the series. A good Black Friday pick up!

man this crap runs worse than cyberpunk and is by far the worst farcry game very sad
