I only recently discovered how much hate there was for this game, and I've gotta say, I really don't agree with it. The Pokemon aspects are cool, but admittedly can get pretty tedious if you're trying to max things out. Flowmotion is cool, the Disney worlds are all perfectly solid, and there are some very good bosses. The story does admittedly fly off into some very stupid territory after riding the line throughout KH2 and BBS, but such is the life of a KH fan I guess.
Somehow I liked the gameplay in this much less than BBS, despite being similar. I did not enjoy raising terrible pokemon creatures. Dropped relatively early on, but I intend to get back to it for the story. Part of me dropping it due to it being midway through my first-time KH marathon and I was fiending for KH3. Sora and Riku responding to gypsy oppression is hilarious.
I played this game when it came out, and did another playthrough about a year ago. Even on my non-xl 3DS, I still enjoyed it. Some of my favorite Kingdom Hearts worlds are in this one, namely The Grid, and Symphony of Sorcery. The Disney stuff isn't as insufferable as other games in the series, and this is the only one to feature characters from one of the best DS RPGs of all time, TWEWY. I love flowmotion, adding verticality and speed to Sora and Riku's movements makes this one the most fun to move around in. The final boss is ass, though.
The level design is a big step back, flowmotion doesn't work well, the spirit management is an awful progression system, nothing happens for the first 18 hours. Stephen A Smith voice BUT!
the last three or so? Dude they slam. Had a great time. The take that this is the game where KH goes off the rails and up its own ass is really weird considering I think the story here is smart and fairly restrained? Obviously there's wild shit in certain scenes but it's mostly a lot of piece moving and heavy lifting in order to set up III as something with comprehensible and understandable stakes?
Anyway. Can't help but keep enjoying Kingdom Hearts. Gonna play III later this month and end this journey at last.

Honestly not a huge fan of this title. I got it on my 3ds years after it came out, and wasn't enthralled by it. The gameplay is a lot more fluid than BBS but I hate the boss design so much, and flowmotion, while cool, made this game way too one note for me. Despite some small bits here and there, the story isn't that great.
