Yall just hate this game because it has motion controls. It could do with having a better minigame selection (footnote 1) and a couple more boards (footnote 2) but for what it is, it's still quite fun.
1: There are 27 duel minigames despite the fact that you only get a duel once or twice per game. Just turn those into 4-player games and you're good.
2: The DK board is the only "non-gimmick" board, maybe just throw a couple more traditional boards in.

This is another one of my childhood games but replaying it again alone and playing the minigames and boards give me mixed emotions. The board phase is pretty much stagnant when you have to roll the die (or dice) and use power ups because it requires the use of wii remote to do many actions. It's a small change but it got annoying real quick. I thought to myself 'why are there so many unnecessary uses for motion controls to this; couldn't they just use it for the minigames? They really pushed the Wii gimmick for this one, but that was understandable because this was 1 year into the Wii's life cycle. The boards are pretty much ripped from Mario Party 7 concept-wise, but the train map is a new addition I like. Items, which are called candies in this game, have a variety of the basic coin-stealing effects, coin-removing, moving people, or granting you more coins. Some are quite over-powered like the 8-bit candy, but it's not an issue due to the randomness of Mario Party. Some minigames range from boring to a pushover when you-know-what controls are involved. I had to hope that the minigames I got were simple montion and tilt controls or required the button inputs, but the Wiimote's design made it very cramped to do that. All-in-all, this game is pretty ok. I don't like the motion controls for its lack of precision and usage, but it really depends on the person who gets used to this.
Mario Party 8 adds Motion controls to the Mario Party formula and the results are kinda mixed, a lot of these minigames are kinda basic and not very precise and the inclusion of motion controls during the board segments makes the game feel a lot slower than previous MP games. Additionally the balance of minigames is weird Duel games are abundant but you'll see repeats from other categories quite often. Board wise Mario Party 8 basically copies every board concept from Mario Party 7 aside from the train board but I wouldn't say any of them top those boards, the item selection feels a lot more basic as well, though the extremely overpowered ones have been tweaked so that's nice. Mario Party 8 is probably your best choice for a Wii Mario Party game but I think I would still choose most of the GC Mario Party games over it.
