The boobeam trap alone is enough to keep Mega Man 2 from a perfect score, it's also a bit disappointing how the robot masters in this one just instantly disintegrate if you touch them with their weakness. Metal Blades are genuinely overpowered in a way that detracts from things. It's the easiest, breeziest Mega Man, and if I'm looking to throw one on just for a few hours of quick messing around, it's gonna be this one. The visuals of the stages and the soundtrack are just so compelling that people are willing to overlook the flaws it has.
It's honestly kind of amazing how this game even exists. The first game wasn't successful, so this was made during the developers' free time while they worked on other projects, it only had 3-4 months of development time, and still somehow managed to be better than Mega Man 1 in every way, be considered the best Mega Man game on the NES, and is arguably the best game on the console. It's one of those game design miracle stories that are really crazy to think about.
As for the game itself, it's just as surprising. Basically everything has been improved, to the point where the game is actually fun to play now. Like even separated from the original game, Mega Man 2 is just really fun to play. The core gameplay is solid, the weapons are fun to play with, it looks really good, it performs flawlessly for NES standards, and the music SLAPS. Easily the best part of the game is the soundtrack; I listen to it all the time.
Give this one a shot. I think it's one of the few NES games that's actually worth your time nowadays, and it's easily my personal favorite.

Holds up pretty well. This feels like the first real game in the franchise. It improves the controls, colors, and variety from the first while removing the (imo) arbitrary scoring system.
The new robot masters are cool and powers are all fun to use. Metal Man is dope but holy shit his ability really trivializes the whole game. In general levels are shorter, (way) easier, and ultimately less complex (and less bullshit) for better or worse. Also whoever thought of the Boobeam Trap should be locked in a basement. Legendary OST once again, especially Flash Man's stage and the normal boss theme which may be my favorite of the series.

The only Mega Man I was able to play to the end, and it was well worth it. This game is well worth a playthrough, it doesn't take long, and keeps you trying with it's challenging, but fair platforming. Of course this game has a it's clunkiness, but I can see why this one is regarded as the best one of the NES entries.
