Never Alone has a wonderful art style and delightful narrative. The authenticity of the experience is fantastic, with interesting historical insights into life as a native and a narrative inspired by stories told to young Iñupiat. The gameplay itself is pretty average with some fairly simple puzzles and platforming, but the wonderful portrayal and respect to the source material more than makes up for the gameplay’s shortcomings.

it's what most of the other reviews on here have said. the art style and atmosphere are great, the gameplay was absolutely rancid. i don't know why these 2D platformers with less than stellar gameplay choose to ask for precision and/or timeliness when they feel like complete ass.

absolutely loved the supplementary video material though. i kinda wish i spent this time on a documentary or something instead.

I played this in co-op with my wife who has actually never really touched a controller in her life. For this it was a nice experience. I then rerun it alone again in maybe 90 minutes. The game is a cute little platformer that tries to learn you something new about arctic culture and people.

The game is made very lovely and respectful. But the gameplay is nothing groundbreaking. Still had an enjoyable time

Honestly... If you don't play with someone, the game is completely boring.
There's not much to say about the puzzles, because the game is a puzzle in its entirety.
The story works like a parable, trying to explain something to the user, or maybe I'm wrong about that.
Uncool.

Meh, super forgettable and not really fun to play. Also not as cute as it thinks it is. I remember running away from the bear being kinda cool?

Não consegui terminar por que o jogo não parava de bugar mesmo sendo tão curto

a bug just don't let me progress in the game lol

played singleplayer. pretty fun honestly, the puzzles weren't complicated but took me back to trying to play fireboy and watergirl and controlling both characters at once.

Never Alone is a gorgeous game that tells a very unique story, with a subject matter and attention to detail that few games have been bold or earnest enough to explore. It has its faults, but if you're looking for a short and intriguing experience about Iñupiat culture, this is your jam.

Never Alone was at one point a free PS Plus game. It offers a relaxing atmospheric puzzle-solving experience that is on the easier side allowing the player to enjoy the game without worrying about any major challenges.

The level design, puzzles, and sceneries are for the for the most average/slightly good but nothing earth shattering.

Really liked the story and the art direction, it's a shame that it is held back at times by frustrating level design and controls.

This game does a lot, including wonderful mini documentary clips, to make the work done to represent the cultural background visible. It is excellent, well researched work that is a pleasure to experience. Unfortunately, the work done to actually translate this research into a game experience is lacking. The controls are messy and buggy and the gameplay is linear, predictable and uninspired. The art style isn't as evocative as it could be either -- the simple cutscenes made to look like scrimshaw carvings were much more interesting that the actual gameplay's visuals). Even the portrayal of the cultural references in gameplay felt quite reductive when they were reduced to random enemy behavior and simple puzzles. The game is still worth checking out, and it is an effective piece of education, but it's too bad the game design wasn't able to match the quality of the cultural research.

I didn't enjoy playing this as much as I enjoyed learning more about a culture I was unfamiliar with.

Pretty meh puzzle adventure game, but it has a unique setting. Don't see many games with Inuit culture at the forefront.

Nice story showing some culture, but nothing better than that

This game can teach you some very interesting things about a foreign culture and if that by itself is enough for you, then please: go nuts. Play it.

That being said, the gameplay in "Never alone" is one of the most boring and barebones excuses for gameplay I have ever witnessed ever.

It's pretty and had some creative uses of controlling two characters with unique abilities, but otherwise this is a mediocre platformer with frustratingly jank controls

A game I admire more than I like, but nonetheless is still a pretty cute experience. The representation wills this thing to life imo, it's fantastic and very in-depth whereas the gameplay feels a bit dated and one-note - though never bad, I don't think. I prefer the Foxtales DLC to the base game but both have a pretty neat spirit system that adds a little bit of ingenuity to a simple flash-game-esque final product. But all that being said I absolutely love the little fox and would defend him with my life.

This game was free in ps plus a long time ago, I got a few trophies then and slept on it until recently. This game is a great relaxing game, the only reason its rated so high is because i love the soundtrack.

Admirable for the way in which it portrays the folklore of its culture, but very underwhelming as a platforming experience.
