Cute and charming. I was really into it.

Sinceramente el gameplay es repetitivo pero algo adictivo. El juego tiene un arte muy bonito y la historia esta muy bien. Aparte Opera es buena waifu si te gustan las furras. Juego infravalorado de la DS

I absolutely adore the first half of this game, I've kinda started to burn out now that I'm in chapter 14 though, so i'm going to put this down for a while and come back to it later to finish properly.

I've had a long history with this game, I always would look at it's advertisements in Nintendo power, I eventually got a copy years later and loved my playthrough, eventually I lost that copy (rip 200 dollars) but after replaying the game more recently I am happy that my love for the game has been reaffirmed.

Furry Gurren Lagann

an incredibly ambitious game to a fault but a very good experience nonetheless l, deserves way more attention than it currently has

Jeu surprenant et incroyable pour un jeu DS

My favorite out of the Little Tail Bronx game. It improved the gameplay from the first game by a lot. I love Fuga as well, but I like the gameplay style of Tail Concerto and Sola way more. I wouldn't mind seeing a remake of this game or even just a remastered.

The most tragic victim of CyberConnect 2's ever-endearing tendency to craft an extremely ambitious concept but ultimately stops short of being an engaging game to play. In spite of this, I was still enthralled from beginning to end.

I feel dirty giving this game a 5/5 because I adore everything about this game except the game itself. It's by far the most technically impressive game on the DS I've played; the characters are all charming; the story is whimsical like every shonen anime you loved as a kid; the amount of work that went into the worldbuilding alone is nothing short of astounding, the lore was carefully crafted from the remnants of Tail Concerto's for a decade and it shows. I just wish the game didn't feel the need to hold your hand so firmly by solving every puzzle in the game before you've even entered the room. I wish the combat weren't so simplistic. I wish the game weren't so easy. I wish I could say that the game were more fun to play. It's not.

But there's a kind of magic to it. It's inexplicable. CyberConnect 2 poured their heart and soul into this project, and in spite of its shortcomings, its charm overcame anything that might get on my nerves. I suppose, emotionally speaking, that's quite a feat.

Salut.

Me arrependo de ter droppado esse jogo a um tempo, é fantastico, combate simples e meio repetitivo mas que é muito divertido, tem personagens com bastante carisma, uma historia bem interessante, eu adorei esse jogo <3

An ambitious adventure with an engaging plot, simplified game-play, and lots of spectacle.
Solatorobo is a game that was filled with talent and potential, deserved to succeed despite it's shortcomings, but was quietly released on a platform when it was no longer relevant.

This is the kind of game that has severe flaws that get in the way of playing it, while having other elements made so perfectly that turns an otherwise dull game into something special and memorable, if someone values those elements they can easily make up for this games flaws, it's the kind of game that has a "cult following" for a reason.

Solatorobo takes place in floating sky islands, much like it's predecessor; Tail Concerto, and very similar to games like Skies of Arcadia.

The environments are extremely nice to look at, 3D backdrops and hand drawn layered backgrounds are seamlessly blended together with dense detail important characters and enemies are modeled polygons, textures in-game are surprisingly clean and sharp for a DS game.
Really everything in the game looks incredible for the hardware it's running on, the flat animated pixel art characters, environments, the various main character models, portraits, and even the pre-rendered and in-engine cutscenes which there several of. It's a very pleasing game to look at. The vehicle/mech the main character uses in particular is a design I like a lot and was what immediately had me interested in this game

All of this and the performance and framerate hold up well throughout the game, there are a few places where it slows down a bit when there's a lot on screen but it's rare that it happens.

The game feels large despite the actual playable areas being small and constrained. you cant navigate an overworld map as it's menu based, it's not an exaggeration to say the game is a series of small rooms and hallways connected together with a few exceptions.

Story is a major focus, there is decent character development and some very well done plot twists. The world and setting are very carefully set up to be believable "lived in" and enjoyable to experience. The game can be text heavy there is a lot of character dialogue.
The game tells an engaging story though it can come off as generic at times, it remains engaging throughout and has a great setup, conflict, and conclusion to the story, this game has a ton of lore and world-building players may find themselves getting invested in the characters struggles and the overall story. I was totally caught off guard by something I won't spoil, this plot twist is even worked into the main intro and menus after you boot up the game again which was a really nice touch.
The characters in the game are part of the appeal, I am not into anthropomorphic style characters, it doesn't appeal to me, but even so the characters in this game made an impression and were memorable, they're really well designed with distinct looks and plenty of personality. Players may find a lot of the lighthearted parts of the game charming.

So I've been very positive so far, but there are some problems with his game
First of all, the in-game music is outright terrible with a single exception. The opening animation has uncompressed "redbook" music with lyrics and it's quite good, the translators chose to keep it in Japanese and added subtitles, it still sounds nice and is a good main theme for the game.
Everything else though was bad enough to detract from the experience music is grating and overly simple. Every ingame song... Every single one uses a compressed cheap sounding stock midi instruments and too often it's a grating flute, not just as the main melody but the backing parts too, drums, beats, whatever are extremely rare in the tracks. Any time the game has tension or action cutscenes the music fails to live up to it miserably, the set of soft calm instruments do not fit whatsoever and detract from the feeling the game was going for. it's an extremely underwhelming soundtrack.

I have been avoiding talking about gameplay so far because it is this game's most significant flaw.
The core gameplay consists of light beat-em-up style action with very simplified RPG mechanics. the main action is to button mash, grab, then throw the enemy and that's mostly how the player attacks throughout the entire game.
It's not unpolished or badly implemented in any way, it just gets old kind of fast because there isn't much depth to it, there's some strategy introduced to help like special attacks, limited weapons and projectiles, and some enemies will introduce strategy like having to be grabbed only from behind or only damaged by being hit by another thrown enemy.
Sometimes you need to catch a projectile and throw it back, most of the action is done through QTEs. It's sort of cinematic and fun to watch but isn't always fun to do.
There's a customization mechanic that prevents this shallow gameplay from ruining the whole playthrough, players can build stats such as speed, power, ect and choose where to spend stat boosts essentially making your own class or build, these boosts are from parts hidden throughout the world and buyable in shops, they are physical tetris-like objects you have to try and fit into a grid so it's also a mini puzzle game, this helps add a lot to the game and is fun to try and find these parts.
The gameplay sounds awful the way I'm describing it, but I think it was inoffensive overall and has a few occasional highlights.

Between combat you can get out of your vehicle/mech to do very basic puzzles and occasional stealth sections, these are never fun to be completely honest and the puzzles are mindlessly easy, they thankfully don't use this aspect of the game very often.
It does get very stale, but throughout the story there are mini-games that play differently and keep it engaging, there's one where you can freely fly around a 3D sky area and find hidden items that was one of the highlights of the game, it was fun to control, this was followed by a decent flight-racing minigame, there's several more for the player to discover like a rail-shooting section.

The progression of the game is an entire other issue, you start in a town having to talk to certain npcs to progress the plot and find your next objective but before you can start you have to do mandatory sidequests to reach a certain number, this happens in every town and can break the pace depending on the quests selected.
Nearly each one warps you into a small room to defeat a wave of enemies, others make you replay sections of the game sometimes large parts at once to defeat X number of enemies or find a bunch of items, they're generally distractions that don't add much, some are more interesting scavenger hunts or have new locations, but this is a deal breaker for some people, exploring the towns and some dungeons is the most enjoyable part of progressing.

Once you are qualified you can go to each main objective which is basically a JRPG dungeon, these are typically linear with some hidden treasures to find and an occasional hidden room and end with a boss, the bosses at least are more interesting and involved than regular enemies; they usually have other ways to defeat them and require problem solving to figure out how to damage them and dodge their attacks.
There's lots of optional content in this game, it ranges from chore-like to decent, I found the arena to be one of the better examples.

What makes the game fun to explore are hidden collectibles that either enhance your abilities or unlock art for a gallery, it kept the linear hallway dungeons from getting unbearable.
It was difficult to stay invested when most of the game was the same gameplay loop and it was mindlessly easy, I was overpowered the entire game without intending to be. I didn't grind or do every sidequest, it's definitely a problem when the intimidating final boss that was being built up to in the story was defeated in a few attacks in under 30 seconds, the gameplay has almost no challenge outside of post game content.

Overall I enjoyed the game despite these problems, it's something someone has to try for themselves, I recommend playing in short bursts, this is a game that I enjoy finishing but would not replay again for several years, it's not as easy to go back to.
It is a game I would still recommend trying and the things it does right it does exceptionally well.
I am giving this a high rating, that should convey just how great those aspects were.

Anyone invested in retro games for long enough knows this situation well. This is one of those...
Games like Panzer dragoon Saga, the original Klonoa, Earthbound, ect. Games that failed to sell despite being unusually high quality, that were virtually unknown at the time.

Try this game if you can.

Hidden gem. Even though its a furry game, it has an amazing world design, ost and characters. Great stuff really

outdated comedy aside, this game is pure, raw, unfiltered DS content. it reeks of early 2010's anime energy, and the world is so full of life and content. the story is also very good, lowkey made me cry several times

Act 1: Basic but well-written JRPG story
Act 2: Furryvangelion

has some pretty questionable why did you do this Mr Cyber Connect2 moments but otherwise is probably one of the most fleshed out and beautiful worlds you can view through the crusty 0 resolution screen of your nintendo ds

PLEASE give this game a chance if you can emulate it or something. (Fuck getting a legal copy, they're more than $200 now lol) Maybe not the most deep or challenging game but it's a charming, heartwarming game with such a fascinating world and endearing characters. Also cannot BELIEVE this runs as smooth as it does on the DS, this could easily pass as an early 3DS game if it looked just a bit better. Easy recommendation overall.

The pacing in the second half is a bit wonky, but like Tail Concerto, the incredible charm and commitment to its world and what it's trying to do carry the game so hard that I think it's easy to overlook a lot of its flaws. Still one of the most ambitious games on the DS that's ultimately only really held back by the hardware it's on. I'm glad that CC2 get to make more of their furry passion project series.

Completed all quests. Emulated on DeSmuMeVS2019. Review is spoiler-free!

Wow. I would have never expected that a DS game could absorb so much of my attention like this. This took a few months to complete, rounding out at about 26 hours. I played at a casual pace, reading everything and completing every side quest as they became available. With most chapters being about an hour long, sitting down to play one or a few in a session was perfect.

The most notable aspect of this game most people will mention is the world design. I have heard that the director conceptualized the world for 10 years before beginning the 3 year development, and it shows. Each location is bursting with life with its own unique technology, cultures, and architecture. The details and graphics of the environments are way above and beyond what I'd ever expect for a DS game.

The story, dialogue, and character/robot designs were all right up my alley as well. I usually hate reading a ton of text and prefer games with ambiguous lore and optional dialogue, such as the Soulsborne games. However, I got instantly hooked on the premise and writing style that's here. Somehow, even through translation, the characters are extremely charming and there are hilarious moments. It was a pleasant surprise to see so much inspiration from Evangelion as well, mainly in the robots, late game characters, and story elements.

In terms of basic gameplay, what's there isn't super deep, but still way above average for a DS game. The combat is simple but satisfying, becoming slightly more complex as enemies get trickier and you unlock more customization options. I personally did not use any upgrades until the post-game content, and felt that the difficulty curve was manageable, maybe even more engaging with the extra challenge.

It is worth mentioning this is also one of the most surprising games I've ever played. Giant creatures lunging erratically out of nowhere is unexpected on this hardware. New gameplay styles constantly being introduced feels like a Platinum type game. The story was always moving in an interesting direction, with some of the most meta "holy ####" moments I have experienced, as if Yoko Taro was the director.

I would say the only boring or repetitive part to me was when dying in a long quest and having to replay it, or some of the more basic Duel Ship missions. I appreciated having the speed up function in the emulator, but it never felt like I was relying on it. I also did experience some burnout about 14 hours in, so I would recommend taking it easy and not rushing to see everything. There is a lot of content here, and letting it last will keep you excited for what's next.

8-9 out of 10... However, if you aren't hooked within the first few hours, you'll probably hate the rest since you end up doing a lot of the same. The story definitely has a curve in quality as well, getting better but then losing focus over time. With how much I loved the characters, I was hoping for a bit more resolution and finality in the ending, but it feels a bit like it withers away, almost as if the writers were afraid to say goodbye to them as well. I really hope they come back in some kind of remake or sequel.

With this being my first Little Tail game, I am (cautiously) excited to see what the others have to offer!

(I've had a lot on my mind for this game, so expect this review to be edited over time.)

P.S. I would love to purchase a physical copy of this but all of the online reselling prices are astronomically high... :(

underrated as fuck furry gang baby

algunas de las animaciones y escenarios renderizados más impresionantes para la consola. muy sólido en todo lo demás

It's as cozy as your favorite warm blanket.

What a truly fantastic experience. Taking a game as quaint, yet undeniably charming as the forgotten game, Tail Concerto on the original Playstation and out of love and confidence in making it work, deciding to expand on its lore, themes, mechanics, and universe is just such a bizarre move to me even still. Making something like this into a series, so late after that original release is just something that you could only do if you had love for these characters and world, which is just undeniably the case here.

Solatorobo is one of those games that really represents what I think made the DS such an amazing console. It is just that perfect avenue for niche games like this to find its own. While a very simple game in its gameplay, mainly just expanding on the very unique combat system of the original, what makes this game special is just how much they chose to expand on the world that it offers. The flying islands everyone lives on are fleshed out into truly lived in places, characters are more complex, the designs have a bit more going on while still retaining the original charm, everything feels just the right amount of expanded upon, while never losing what made it so appealing in the first place. This is also just like, the best looking game on the system? I don't know how they got the game to look so beautiful, so bustling with life and colour, without the DS crashing, but my lord is it a treat to look at.

That is to say nothing of the second half of this game, where it surprises you with not only the fact that it exists, but just the gall they have of hiding the true game like that, reminded me of moments straight out of Automata years later haha.

Your love of this game, and indeed, the whole series is likely going to boil down to your love of the vibes and the world it presents. Honestly, I could spend forever with these characters, they're the perfect comfort characters you would wish to spend such a fun freelance adventure with. I love being on these islands and taking in the amazing landscapes and camera angles they decide to present these worlds in, ahhhh I just love this game. Truly and honestly, one of the greatest hidden gems on the best system ever, please play it, you're doing yourself a favor by doing so.

Can't believe that there is even more to this series still, can't wait to get around to Fuga sometime later this year.

I understand but also have you considered playing it isn't fun?

Mfw I was playing this game and thought the voice actors were speaking some made-up language like in Klonoa, but eventually realized they were actually speaking French https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwODwwgE6rA

I'm weak for this game. It just hit me at the right time

Odio mucho lo que me encantó este juego.

Jesus fucking christ that was a game.

Took my time with this one for sure, longest I've been playing a game since Yakuza 0. And it was worth it. This game is amazing, all the characters are fun with not a single one I didn't really like, the story is great (though moreso Part Two than anything, I like Part One but it's definitely weaker overall), and the gameplay is fun and also equally still as fun once you break the stats in half and accidentally give yourself 99 Attack.

I'll be honest, outside of a few bits of dialogue that.. definitely aged badly (like the whole "you're a girl??? but you're not girly!" and the Elh Reveal Scene), there's really not anything I disliked about this game. It's really good, and I'm looking forward to playing the Fuga series eventually.

I didn't know this game even existed until this year. I watched a video about it and was completely hooked on wanting to play it for myself. Now that I have I can safely say this is one of my favorite games I've played. Everything about it is just so much of what I love.

The story alone blew me away. Even with having been spoiled on a large chunk of it from the video I watched I still was enthralled with everything. The characters all get great development. There's a lot I want to say but honestly I dont wanna spoil it at all for anyone. I feel it's truly best experienced on your own. I can't imagine how much more I would've been in love with it had I played this fully blind.

The gameplay is great and although simple at first gains some more depth by the second half. The biggest complaint I have is just the fact that there's no challenge to any fights. But I think the fast pacing and how often new environments and mechanics are introduced helps mitigate that issue at least a little.

There's so much I could talk about but really all I have to say... play this. Your only way is to emulate it unless you really wanna spend a couple hundred on a copy. But either way this is an amazing gem that sadly never got the recognition it deserved. I would love for another game to try at the ideas introduced here, and to get more of the amazing world that was developed throughout the narrative. Hopefully I can get some of that when I give Fuga a try.
