unfortunately the last time yugioh games tried to do anything interesting

One of my first strategy games.

Loved the random mix of history and yu-gi-oh.

The music was gorgeous but what the hell even was this game. Like, YGO War of the Roses? WHY?

This is such a strange game and it. I mean really it could be the posterboy for licensed games in the 00s tbh. I was a bigger fan of Falsebound Kingdom but this had a solid soundtrack with songs that were way too short and it was probably a bit more "put together".

"A card! A card! My kingdom for a card!"
Possibly a hot take, but i will die on this hill by my belief that this is one of if not the best Yu-Gi-Oh game ever made (of course i haven't played them all but this is really up there). Sure it may not play 1:1 to the actual card game, but honestly i don't care? Plus no game after it has tried emulating it so this will remain a (very) fun experiment with the IP. The premise is so unique, and gameplay loop is so addicting i can literally spend hours just dueling (repetitiveness seems to be an issue with it, but it barely affected me). Music is oh my god, and adapting the War of the Roses with the Yugioh cast is such a silly premise that i can't help but very much enjoy. Some of my pet peeves from Forbidden Memories like the enemy AI have been (mostly) addressed, but it still needs polish. Also i still hate you Riryoku

Beautiful soundtrack, cool cutscenes that show the Yugioh monsters fighting it out. Terrain types fleshed out the gameplay in a novel way. Major pain points include the story being a little weak, and the game aging like milk.

Pumpking? Busted.

Childhooooooood. First time playing any kind of "strategy" type of game as a kid. I didn't know why they didn't call Yugi by his name but I didn't care I had my cards and that's all that mattered to me. Returning to this game some odd 20 years later, I really appreciate what they went for with this. A super fun, creative, grid movement based strategy game while still being a Yu-Gi-Oh! card game with two sides to a story to explore.

This game was super boring and hard to me as a kid, but i kept coming back because the aesthetic was so fucking good, what a cool looking game.

This format slaps, and I used to try to scrounge up some rules to make this playable with friends with the real card game. Shame it never got expanded on.
