I'm not entirely sure why I bought this game in the first place; strategy games are hit-and-miss with me to begin with, and Civ never really stuck me with its claws the way it did many, many others. Great music, though.

[This is being written with all the expansions/DLC included in mind]

Civilization V is probably the greatest strategy game I've ever played with how utterly addicting it is. There's a "Time Played" section down there, and yeah, I see it. But I'm not going to fill it in, because it's a bit embarrassing. I played this game so much in the past because I fell into that "one more turn" syndrome. Civlization V's systems have a learning curve, but I wouldn't say it's a steep one - but it's not easy to get a hang of either, I'll admit. But once you do get a hang of Civ V, you can get enraptured by it. There's a simplistic joy in it. The systems are just the right amount of engaging without being too overly in-depth like some other games in the series (cough, Civ VI, cough).

Civ V also has a plethora of mods on the Steam workshop. A thriving modding community has extending Civilization V's lifespan so much that various mods are even considered sub-sections/total conversions of the game itself. The No Quitter's mod, Anno Domini, Gaia's mod pack, JFD's mechanic mods, etc. Leaders and Civilizations missing from the game probably have a mod available out there by now! CPU vs CPU games are quite popular as well, and I probably inflated my hours with them.

I just can't gush enough about how good Civ V is. Sometimes less is more when it comes to game mechanics, and Civ is a staple of that in the strategy genre.

Score: 97

I picked up Civ V from a Steam sale a decade ago and put it down after an hour. But recently some friends encouraged me to try it again and were willing to tutor me through a game, and now I'm having a blast. It really is a dangerously addicting pillar of PC gaming history.

Impose whatever personality you like onto famous leaders of the old world.

We always boot this game up every few months, play for an evening, have a lot of fun, save the game, and then make a new campaign a few months later.

was fun but ultimately not my type of game, too nerdy

men lovee getting u to play this

probably my most favorite CIV series

way better than Civilization VI ever could have hoped to be

Great strategy game with tons of bugs in multiplayer, but still fun

Civilization V is a grand-strategy game with high variation in strategies and tech available to each of the countries. Very enjoyable with or without a party for people who enjoy turn based strategy with opportunities for mass variation in how you spec your tech tree to how you approach diplomacy with other countries. My major gripe is the mostly linear progression in the army building and that sessions can take a large amount of time in one sitting.

Highly recommended regardless due to its completely enjoyable experience.

Dad's favourite game. Can't bring myself to go back to it, knowing his save files are on my Steam account. Miss you, old man - wish you were here to do the exact same thing you always did and refuse to turn the actual game off because "if I close the laptop lid it turns off anyway".

I'd go down on Catherine the Great ngl.

Your city is starving, and so are you. You haven't eaten in hours, but thats okay. You only need, ONE MORE TURN.

no strategy game could ever achieve what this game did

I always think love playing this game so much, and then I need to go to war, and I am like, wow, I do not like this game actually

A perfect entry into strategy games. Not too complex, just deep enough to get you hooked.

fun with friends, fun alone up to emperor difficulty, is a time sink tho

Probably my favourite turn based strategy game. I've wasted hundreds of hours in this and have no regret. Miss the days when I'd just launch this and spend an entire evening eating pizza and playing this with my roommate.

Epic board game. I love dominating opponents

once you learn the game it becomes very addicting

As addicting as the other civ games but less depth than IV

ESSE JOGO É TIPO CRACK. "Só mais um round ai eu vo deslogar", passaram 30 rodadas já
