Skullgirls is a fairly endearing if a bit risque fighting game that served to set the example that more than one FG can use rollback netcode to immense success, while oozing pure style and fluidity. It was also one of the earlier examples of an actually good in-game tutorial and walkthrough, making it by far one of the best on-boarders to the genre short of getting a veteran to coach you personally.

The music is lovely and the stage selection while literally just a flat line in physicality offers a lot of nice variety in tone and mood, preventing sessions from feeling stale so much; not to mention the countless character-on-character specific battle intro/outros, you can tell so much care went into this despite what's apparently pretty awful working environ- wait, I'm getting something...

Oh noeys my broskis, sisterinos and they/themmings, they're removing content from a game I haven't booted up in 6 years!

W-what content? U-um, yknow, stuff like uh..

sexual comments involving minors, allegorical nazi imagery, a few pantyshots, the announcer voiced by the creepy ass ex-CEO(/director?)..

This level of censorship is proof western civilization can only dream of creating masterworks such as Bakemonogatari.

Just remember to fight that good fight and not buy Skullgirls for the third time, /a/lrighty?

lmfao get real. Favorite piece from the OST.

The recent drama is so dumb.
I don't think the changes were needed, however they're insignificant and not even worth consider abandoning the game for.

People acting like it's the end of society.
They can express their disagreement with the changes, but this is ridiculous.
As long as you don't cover Ms. Fortune's midriff we're alright, ok devs?

Anyways the game is amazing, beautifuly animated, it plays really well and the cast and story modes are very enjoyable. Also it's cheap as fuck. Just play some Skullgirls.

RIP Soviet Announcer, the only true loss from the last update, i'll miss you (also the most understandable removal tbh)

Very cool art style with great character designs and responsive combat.

Oh boy... this game was excellent in its day, I followed along with it from the OG publisher to the Kickstarter days.
it was one of the best arcade fighters for a WHILE.

BUT

DO NOT PLAY IN ITS CURRENT STATE.
current owners have fired all the original devs and deleted content people paid for because it was deemed offensive.
I don't care what your opinion of 'offensive' material is, you don't get to remove content people paid for.

highly stylized fighting game. i'm not usually a fighting game player but sometimes i'll get an itch for skullgirls and gawk at the visuals and all the little details put in to the game, then stop playing after i've had my butt kicked a few times. fortunately this game actually has a really great tutorial but even after playing through that and looking up other guides on the game, i think i can say i really tried it but it doesn't click with me. still admire everything about it though

It's the horny fighting game, let's be honest. But it is good and is balanced rather uniquely. 6-button team fighter as a forewarning in case that's a turn off. Obviously the art is verrry good and the animations are smooth. I also really like the music.

Conservatives who never played this game got really angry about the company’s efforts to branch out (aka removing some nazi imagery and underaged panty shots) and I forgot to review it here, so I may as well. I love the vibe this game has, it’s immaculate. A bit wonky on the difficulty but other than that, this is exactly what I like in a fighting game.

The best fighting game of all time

Remmìembers when this game got incredibly negative review bombing from Twitter dudes because of it decided to censor/ remove some more controvertial imaginery? That was a weird time....

Btw I always respected the heck outta Skullgirls: it takes a formula that was really rare to see at the time of its original release (there weren't a lot of new tag-team fighters when it first showed up) and expands upon it by presenting an incredble artstyle that homages classic cartoons in an incredible way: every frame of animation is stunning, and can rival Juggernauts like Darkstalkers and KOF in terms of their presentation.

The presented world and characters, are also incredibly solid: able to combine the goofiness of a classic animated show with some darker tones and settings: it's a fun time that involves a really cool story and "lore" as well.

THe fighting game formula is also incredibly solid: this games feels lke a love letter to the versus series and other capcom titles, and you can feel it in the bombastic gameplay and engaging tag system, but that also doesn't shy away from giving interesting movesets to the characters.

THe only major issue with the game is the way smaller roster, which is an important aspect especially in a fighter based on tag teams: even if every character is treated with an incredible amount of care in their animations and balancing, there is not a lot to choose from with a roster of only 18.... luckily for use DLCs have been out for a while, and are able to offer some of the most requested newcomers from the community.

SKullgirls hascemented itself as a solid series for a reason: it's a great fighting game that combines a lot of things that made similar titles great, with an incredible presentation and memorable artsyle: it you are an MVC or a Darkstalkers fan, you cannot miss this.

(Also I main Beowulf and Cerebella, absolutely adore these 2)

This game is good as an overall game but great as a fighting game. Fun and doesn't take itself too serious. Plays like MvC2 so it scratches that itch of playing a tag team type fighting game.

I think the best part of this game is the tutorial section it gives in depth instructions not only on how to play Skull Girls but gives fundamental lessons about mastering a fighting game in general.

Tied for my favorite FG. So much fun and the animations are beautiful

I'm not a fighting game expert, and I'm pretty bad at them, but this game has hooked me. I think one major plus that has gotten me to stick with this game is the extensive but easy-to-grasp tutorials that the game provides. Though I'm still not at the level I want to be, I've made major steps, and my progress has been noticeable and meaningful.

The biggest reason I have stuck with the game has to be its style. The character designs are fantastic (though not always appropriate), and the animations are amazing. I think the big band, jazzy, music does a lot to help push the old movie style that permeates a lot of the game, including the supers, which are called "Blockbusters".

I'd highly recommend checking this game out. It's a spectacular time. (I play Peacock, by the way.)

Definitivamente minha nota não tem nada relacionado com personagens...nem nada do tipo cof cof cof.

É um ótimo jogo de luta, parecido com marvel vs capcom. Pegue a Cerebella e saia agarrando seu adversário como se não houvesse amanhã

Great game, great hitboxes, great graphics, great musics, great character designs, pretty much a perfect fighting game i think... but i'm bad at the game so...................

this game is a great litmus test for if someone is a loser or not because if they actually get upset that 2 frames of an underaged girls panties were removed from a game and go on to cry censorship you know definitively that theyve never had sex

that being said the game fuckin rules, always has ruled, always will rule

loved the game when I played it, but the new devs just kept removing artwork because it was "too lewd\sexual" even from the artbook, the stuff removed from the artbook wasn't even replaced, and let me remind you, you buy the artbook separately, that's just sad, even more sad when you know that they deleted the angry fans reviews on steam

i just can't get myself into fighting games.. they're wayyy too much of a commitment

one of the first games i bought on steam.
This game is Beautiful, it Has Really Good Music, The Art Style is Really Good And it's a Good Fighting game.
Literally Perfect nothing to Complain About.
Now I Just Need To Platinum it.

Eu num costumo gostar de jogos de luta, mas skullgirls é tão estiloso que me conquistou, a trilha sonora, animações golpes, tudo é muito maneiro, especialmente pq existe a peacoack.

Got too horny and couldn't play the game.

Bought this game because manchildren were getting mad over their underage waifu or something, as is the case with gamers after like 2009. Long story short people do not know what censorship is and no actual content was removed. Mike Z, the director for a long time, was ousted (simplest way to put it) for... misconduct a few years ago. Do not take people who actually think a mild change in color to a piece of clothing on one character and removing some unnecessary story panels (like idk, 2 out of the 20 billion in this game) is removing content. The game is literally the same and I can guarantee you none of these people complaining would even notice if it wasn't explicitly announced.

I find it difficult to find many faults in Skullgirls. The movement is smooth as butter, the art is unique and appealing, the music is great, and it has this charm to it that no other game has. This game is like a high quality dish served with caviar. Combos feel limitless in a way that few fighting games have without being broke as shit (looking at you, Street Fighter Alpha 2...)

I think the only problem I could find is that the boss character at the end of the story and arcade modes is like the antithesis of what the game is. You basically have to play the game completely differently due to how that fight works, which I'm not really a fan of in fighting games.

All of the things that people complain about fighting games not having, is present in Skullgirls. A thorough tutorial, a robust story mode for all of the characters, long term support, and some of the BEST rollback netcode in the genre. I fail to find any real issues with the actual game, which is what you should be reviewing a game for anyway.

A bit too raunchy for my tastes. but its a great fighting game

joguei, gostei e apanhei pra caramba.

I was genuinely amazed by how much they put into this game.
Such an amazing art direction, lead by an euphonious soundtrack to be enjoyed with. For not one single moment did this game not feel alive to me, with such intuitive and unique combat mechanics which may at first be a tussle to learn but once you get the hang of it you wouldn’t even notice the amount of hours you’ve pooled into the game.
