This is almost the same game that you may or may not have played on the Nintendo 64, but portable. Being able to play this wherever and whenever you wanted was very smart, and working with Rare again to get this released was surprising to see.

With all that said, this is a somewhat lesser version of the original, and it is thanks to the controls. The Nintendo DS does not have any analogue stick, which makes controlling 3D games much harder than before. Now, if this game was like Mario Kart where you only drive a kart around a course it wouldn't be an issue, but flying the plane, and looking around the hub world felt much more cumbersome to do here than in the original.

Other than that, some of the characters and voices were changed for various reasons which always felt off to me since I was so used to the original, but I can understand why the changes were made. This is still a good game throughout, and I almost always have fun with it.

A game I spent 95% in the hub world just goofing around collecting balloons and playing minigames is enough to grant it this score due to nostalgia, despite having barely done any actual races. The plane was the coolest.

A great port of the original, but somehow it lost some of the "mystique" that it had on the N64? Don't get me wrong, it's still excellent.

Bought a DS for this game only and then sold the DS when I was done. Best cart-racing game of its time.

My one faint memory as a kid is how you could record your own voice lines that play during races. I can only imagine the carnage that would've occurred if these voice recordings could be played during online races

Me encontré este juego detrás de un asiento en un autobús. Solo por eso ya es mítico para mí.

Its good, but inferior to the N64 version. Harder to control, music isn't as good. New additions are neat but barely add to overall experience

Un Mario Kart con historia y que está guapo.

I had a fun time with this game. I really enjoy the overworld aspect of the game as well as the different playable characters. I also liked how it introduced the different flying and water mechanics before Mario Kart did, and it really helps change up the track variety. The races are also actually difficult, especially the boss fights.

Good port of the N64 classic. I liked the flying sections

Damn is this game a throwback. I really just remember having a good time flying around the hub world. I don't remember too much of the actual racing aspect of the game, but I still think it's solid.

I grew up with this version and it was always a nice change of pace from Mario Kart. I loved the track creator

I swear, the elephant voice reminded me of a gay porn actor. Don't ask why or to furtherly explain, just accept it.

Average Mario kart-like game still.

Look what they have done to my boy...

cute lil game, not too much else to say.

played it a lot as a kid. remember it as aggressively mid

Played this one when I was younger but was always very confused by it.

No se que le ven a este juego la verdad no es la gran cosa

this game's great in some aspects... REALLY ANNOYING in others...

I spent way more time on this as a kid than I probably should have. Given my current stance against remakes, I would have been very angry with it if it came out today.
