While being better than the SNES version of Mario Kart, it just doesn't hold up for me and I haven't had much desire to play it by modern standards. The fact you can't drift is a deal breaker for me and it is hard to get fast. The thing that this game does better than the first one are some of the tracks. Shy Guy Beach, Sunset Wilds, and Cheese Land have always been favorites for me.
Super Circuit has not aged as gracefully as I would have hoped, but it’s still a fun little romp. I played the hell out of this as a kid and remember beating it 100% only to lose it at school (was absolutely livid for about a week) only to find it on the oval (was absolutely radiant for about a week). Video games are a fuck
playing the tracks on 50cc is pretty relaxing; you can appreciate the cute visuals of the game and the creative courses like sky garden and cheese land but on 150cc its straight up not fun. the drifting feels overly unpredictable and each level feels like an ice level due to all the slippiness, coins are a stupid feature which the game very well could've gone without, and controlling the game just feels frustrating.
I never played this one before but actually really liked it. It’s a surprisingly compelling middle ground between SNES and N64 Mario Karts. The problem is that graphically it’s rough to look at on any screen and tracks aren’t too great, but it’s easily one of the top tier Kart racers in my humble opinion.
Probably the only mario kart game I would consider to be genuinely bad. Slippery controls, unfair coin system and the odd addition of a lives system just makes this game frustrating and not fun to play. Track design is boring with there only being a few highlights like Sunset Wilds, Ribbon Road and Lakeside Park. Overall, not an enjoyable kart racer which is disappointing considering how high quality other mario kart titles are.
