CrossCode was an amazing game that manages to somewhat accurately portray the feelings of playing an older style MMORPG while also being a single player experience. From the fun and fast paced combat that provides depth and challenge, to the puzzles that can leave you completely stunned and scratching your brain for tens of minutes, to a story that has lots of great beats, so many things in this game is not only fun but also extremely satisfying to discover, explore, and achieve. This is one of the few games where I would say that having things being so spread out and somewhat obtuse feels like a positive, as searching for the answers online really did remind me of scouring endless forums looks for monster or plant drops to craft new items, or finding clues to solve a quest but needing guidance on where to go next, or stumbling upon questlines that were hidden that gave an interesting reward in ACTUAL MMORPGs and gave me that feeling of community while being offline for my full 37 hours of playtime. The world being populated w/ characters all over just running around, even if they're only a few models, really does help feel like there are so many others playing and experiencing this game with you. And while the story didn't necessarily grip me very early on, and I think the ending for the base game does come up a bit lacking (even the good ending), I think it's still a serviceable story and it leads into the DLC that I'm certain will tie everything up very nicely and add lots of extra content to an already very beefy experience. HIGHLY recommend this game to anyone looking for a good game that will last you a good few weekends but will still respect your time and not make you feel like you need to sell your soul to it.

One of my favourite games of all time, a very engaging (if occasionally anime trope-y) sci fi story, excellent combat and some engaging puzzles, a competent difficulty curve that balances intrinsic and extrinsic gameplay advancement, stellar visual design and a delightful soundtrack. A few of the characters are a little too silly for their own good, but most of the main cast is also fairly well developed. DLC isn't amazing, though -- the original ending is perfectly satisfactory, as well it might be after a metric yonk on Early Access. It's not a game that does anything hugely mindblowing, but Bergen Village is more of a comfort zone for me than the actual bed in which I sleep.

This is the best game I've played my entire life. I can't think of a single thing wrong with it. The story, the gameplay, the gorgeous pixel art, amazing music, characters, it's the best overall package I've ever experienced.

Play it. For the love of god, please play it. More people need to know about this game.

Decently fun and satisfying but sometimes really really annoying in terms of enemies & puzzles (skill issue)

a masterpiece... it's only grindy if you're trying to max out your gear and you can rely on your skill rather than stats

This should be labeled as a puzzle game since that's mostly what you will be doing the entire time. Puzzles are not that fun and are a chore to solve. The story is not that interesting it has neat concepts near the end that it finally explores but by then it is too late

The most underrated indie RPG from the 21st Century.

crosscode is pretty fire, gameplay is absolute god tier, combat is cool as hell, lotsa great quests, optional dungeons and bosses, very fun, but the story felt a bit lacking towards the end, maybe i'm just conditioned by jrpgs where at the end shit scales up dramatically and all of the mysteries have the most batshit insane answers.

all things considered, crosscode's story is actually very grounded, none of the stuff that happens in it is legitimately absurd, and i appreciate it for that. after the suspension of disbelief towards what is essentially a digital form of matter, everything is extremely sane and makes a lot of sense, hell, even the "sci-fi" part of it is extremely believable, it genuinely feels like a story that imagines a futuristic place that is not nearly as outlandish as we usually get when it comes to imagining how we'll be in 100 years. i think that aspect of crosscode is actually really cool. but i still can't shake the feeling that the "mysteries" lacked a bit of sauce, like none of the twists are genuinely as jaw dropping as they seem like they'd be.

idk, maybe i'm expecting something the story never seeked to achieve, you know. that's why i can't say it's bad, it's actually really well tied together and really compelling. the characters are really really good, and i especially really really enjoy how lea is technically a protagonist with a disability, which is not only cool representation but also a fun twist on the classic mute protagonist. crosscode opens up my imagination to all kinds of disability representation in fantasies and sci-fi stories.

i'm very curious what the DLC's gonna be all about since, frankly, i would be perfectly satisfied without one. save for c'tron being suspiciously absent from the raid at the end and then being mysterious after the credits, i don't think there would even be any loose ends.

this is one of those cases where a game is REALLY GOOD but it doesn't hit me where it counts. it's hard to put into words but it's the same way i know and agree that chrono trigger is AMAZING but i'd pick soooo many games before it if i went down a list of my favs. i think that's good tho, i mean fuck imagine being compared to chrono trigger, if i ever made a game that some people said "yeah that shit makes me feel the same way chrono trigger does" that in itself would be an achievement. crosscode isn't a bad game, i just don't particularly vibe with it super hard. i vibe with it big time, but like, if my brain was a wine glass, and xenoblade 3 has the ability to quickly shatter it by immediately hitting the right frequency, crosscode makes the wine glass vibrate intensely but doesn't quite reach the point of making it explode.

crosscode goes in my category of games i would instantly recommend to someone, and say "this game is AMAZING", but it's far from one of my favorites.

Genuinely one of the best indie games in recent memory. Fun combat with a memorable story and characters. All of the pixel art is wonderful and the soundtrack is great.

"why didn't anyone tell me this is one of the best indie games ever made?" i say after ignoring everyone who told me to play crosscode for the past five years

About 10 hours in. It has a lot going on but feels a bit over designed

The Reddit of this game, it’s over 9001!

Really didn’t like the characters and how annoying they are.

The game terms are all super wierd. Rock fart masters, lame lame.

Kinda grindy too.

The ost is also generic.

Also, who plays mmorpg’s in 2018 lmao.

Story/World:
As someone who grew up playing a lot of World of Warcraft and other such MMOs, I have some nostalgia for playing those games, unfortunately these days I just don't have the time to go back to one. CrossCode does an amazing job of recreating a world that makes you actually believe you are playing an MMO, but in a completely single player game. The dialogue is well crafted to help you forget you are playing by yourself. There are even NPCs running around acting like other players that help with that feeling.
Somehow the way the main character is written, who has only a few lines intentionally, is able to make me feel like she has a personality. The characters you meet along the way have very fun and unique personalities that you can't help but liking. To go with these characters, the story is engaging as well with some mystery to unravel along the way. It's not a totally predictable story either which I always enjoy since it keeps me wanting to see what is next.

Gameplay:
The main structure of the game is focused on a twin-stick style of control. You can throw projectiles or use a melee weapon for hitting things around and use a dodge or shield to protect yourself. Not only do you use these in combat, but they are heavily required in the puzzles throughout the game.
There isn't too much to say about combat other than it offers a good challenge, and each enemy typically has a way that makes it easier to defeat it. You just need to figure out what that is, sometimes it's as easy as being weak to an element, sometimes it's a little more complex like bouncing an attack to hit it's back to stun it.
The puzzles can be quite difficult with timing of actions. Later in the game there are some that require you to do about 15 actions in a row and if you mess up you need to go back and try again. There are no penalties for failing otherwise which is nice, so you can take your time to plan everything out.
While all of this can be quite challenging, the game offers some nice accessibility options such as reducing puzzle speed or reduce incoming damage.

Music:
The music is just fantastic! It brings you back to those classic JRPGs of yester-year. The songs meld into the world, and I found myself never growing tired of hearing them despite constantly hearing them while playing. I can't forget to mention the song that plays when you get an S-Rank Combo, it goes hard and gets you pumped up for the S-Rank farming.

Art:
The game uses the tried and true pixel art and it is quite well done. There are so many different characters and enemies, and besides some colour swaps, they all have very unique designs. Some of the world can be difficult to navigate though with different elevations blending together.
Every new environment stands out from the previous areas, so it's a nice thing to look forward to.

Closing Thoughts:
Overall the game as a package is amazing, it all fits together very well. The collecting of items gives me some of those MMO grinding vibes without overstaying it's welcome. There are some other fun, unique side quests to experience such as a tower defense mini game, as well as some environmental navigating puzzles that reward you with some items.
If you enjoy the random pop culture reference, there are definitely plenty of those strewn about the game, thankfully it isn't hammering you over the head with them.
CrossCode is easily one of my favourite games ever, it just brings me so much nostalgia and happiness when playing, while also giving my brain that tingly feeling of solving or overcoming a difficult challenge.

third-person action rpg stuck in a fixed viewpoint

really good! first game i ever bought on steam so im glad i got to go finish it. great writing, great art, great music, really fun game!

Bueno, Lea... ¿Eres familiar con el concepto de los MMORPG?

Muy bueno, muy largo tal vez si haces su contenido secundario. Pero como aventura está bien. Los templos son lo mejor con diferencia.

I don't know how to express that I cannot continue with the game for the overwhelming amount of quests it has and that it is a good thing.
I guess my only problem is that it is too long, and it's also a thing that I really appreciate from it.

One of the greatest indie games I've played, but wow the puzzles were very annoying and exhausting at times. I doubt I'll return to this one very often because of the extremely long dungeons, but still an incredible experience with some of the best world building I've seen in a game. The soundtrack is like an 11/10 too

I never heard about this game before it got highly recommended to me. Out of curiosity I decided to give it a shot and... wow I can't believe I was missing out.

It's kinda jarring how overlooked this gem is, an amazing indie game that does so many things and offers an experience like no others.

It has a premise that glue you on the screen from the moment you start, as you begin explore this MMORPG inspired world to discover the secrets of the main character and the people around her.

The writing is really charming, and gives a lot of personlity to most of the roster and the setting they are part of.

The gameplay has a top-down perspective that combines different things from various geners: you have the energy and range of games like Enter the Gungeon but also really great puzzles from titles like A Link to the Past. It all merges together to create an incredible experience. It is even abe to feature an incredible combat, that leads to really fun and ismart gimmicks for enemies and especially bosses, that makes every encounter interesting and fascinating to discover.

I do have some nitpicks, like I feel that sometimes the maps can feel a bit too large and dispersive, and some of the puzzles and dungeons can feel a bit too long for my taste... but that can also be my lack of general orientation (and possible lack of brain cells) that stops me from praising it more,

I feel I am not really that far into the story (the game is surprisingly long), but for now I can safely say that Crosscode is a masterpiece. An absolute recommendation for every fan of videogames.

Holy fuck this game is good. It's rare I find a game that oozes charm and passion in every ounce of its world. The story is fantastic, the combat is addicting, the quests are fun distractions, and the characters are all well-written and silly. I have yet to do the DLC but I can't see myself not loving it too.

One of the best games I have ever played.

Might very well be the best indie game ever made. Granted I haven't played a lot of indie games but even if I have I'd probably still think of this as the best one.

Crosscode is pixel art RPG that gets a lot of things right with some major caveats. Firstly, I loved the story. The characters and twists made is so compelling. With the story being something very personal and a life experience instead of 'saving the world' cliché, I really wanted to know more. And Emilie is simply the best character.
The pixel art and animations is amazing also. I think its more of a 32bit style having such detail and expressions. I appreciate that they removed the major grindy issues of this game as some "MMORPG's" tend to have.
The combat is engaging. There is a some button mashing enemies but you have to plan and find weak points in attacks. However there was some major downfalls on this game for me:
- The dudgeons. They should be a high point but they were just so long. With some puzzles requiring perfect timing and with so many rooms, it just broke me as it became such a chore.
- The balancing between zones. For instance, in the first zone you fight enemies at level 11 and could be level 12 by the time to move on. But find the enemies in the next zone to be level 16, why the 5 level gap between zones?
- I know you can adjust the difficulty in the game at any moment, as I found the game very difficult but the precision needed to shoot key areas to progress is too tight and became very frustrating.
- Being a top-down game and lack of depth perception I wonder if the platforming had to be such a regular occurrence due to the amount of falls
- Unlike MMO's the opportunity to find great loot is so sparse and you will end up buying gear from vendors. Anyone that play MMO's know that is not what you want to do.
It took me 45 hours to get though but feel it could of been a 30 hour experience and suited me better. It's a great game and expected something different then what I got. Recommended for the gaming enthusiasts out there that love huge dudgeons and a challenge.

El mejor indie de la industria

One of the most underrated games of the last few years. Such a good Action RPG
