Everyone seems to put this on a pedestal for how games in 2024 should be made. Constantly contrasted against the mistakes of modern AAA, early access half baked titles that need day one patches, with stripped content repackaged as DLC.

I am here to tell you BG3 was in early access for 3 years, charging $50 for the pleasure of being a QA Tester. It released with a barely functioning Act 3 and half of the companions having the most half baked quests. There are maybe 3 companions who actually have anything close to a fully formed character arc. Karlarch and Wyll fucking deserved so much better than what they got.

So please shut the fuck up about how Larian are the last bastions of True Game Development.

As far as a D&D simulator goes, it's not great. If anyone is in a campaign right now that feels like playing BG3, I am deeply sorry for your incredibly on rails situation. Video games will never capture the actual feeling of playing a TTRPG with a competent DM, it's just not possible.
