It's wild how much content is locked behind a secret ending, in a "new" area that's also time limited.

In a game stunted by enemy variety, it's pretty bold to put a handful of cool boss monsters behind something that I'm going to assume a lot of players wont see?

Sometimes your coolest ideas are best left on the drawing board.

Shadow of the Colossus mini golf would go so fucking hard

With God as my witness, I finally finished the remake in 2024 and what can i say? Nier kinda blows.

It feels like a bunch of Big Emotional plot points strung together with nothing? No time in between for the player or characters to ruminate on whats happening, we're too busy going to the next Sad Event.

Emil nukes a fucking village and 5 minutes later no one gives a shit. Forget that ever happened, we can't sit around and contemplate, we're too busy going to a Wedding!

Maybe that's the point and I'm being a bit mean, but it just all feels so transparently Depressing for the sake of being Depressing.

It feels like watching an episode of anime condensed down to 5 minutes on youtube, all of the conversations and side characters removed. Just Deku fighting the baddie, because the punching is all that matters.

Moving and jumping around is hot shit when it actually works.

Feels like a proof of concept for a far better game that'll come out in like 4 years.

More games should look like they're from 2002.

Honest to god the best looking game ever made

That's what I call Souls!

had the biggest grin on my face the entire time

videogames are pretty good sometimes

For the first time in 16 years they made a Monster Hunter game that's not for me, and honestly thats kinda rad.

I've been playing MonHun since attack was bound to the right analogue stick, and I've watched so many people bounce off this series because it's fucking impenetrable. Rise is finally the game that I can point to when someone wants to get into the series.

They've streamlined a lot of stuff, for better and worse, but most of the weird useless shite is gone, and I really hope the newcomers who play this honestly have a great fucking time.

I have my fair share of issues though, a lot of which boil down to "not in my monster hunter" shite. I grew up on paintballs and psychoserum, I have a real soft spot for the pure archaic shit that this series is known for, so you can imagine half of my complaints already.

The wirebugs seem antithetical to what MH is.
The range of monsters to hunt is lacking.
Some of the Monsters have lost a bit of their character, like whats up with the Tigrex these days.
The game feels so short.

All of the usual shite.

I will say though, the majority of the environments are dog, the worst in recent memory. Someone sucked all the colour out and it's such a crime because some of the DS games looked great compared to the fucking flooded forests 20 shades of brown.

All of my bullshit aside, I'm honestly so glad Rise exists, there is a lot to love here, at the end of the day it's a Monster Hunter game and it's a blast to play, especially if you've got some homies to come along for the ride. I'm just dumb and like all my obsolete garbo, I guess I've got the past 16 years to scratch that itch.

Shouts out to my boy Rathalos who finally stopped being a jobber and got a sweet move set.

What a dismal game.

If you're going to have the first 15 hours of your game be focused around a characters struggle with being in an emotionally manipulative relationship with their Teacher, and how that relationship involves a Very Bad Power Dynamic, please for the love of god, don't 10 minutes later ask me straight faced if I want to fuck my teacher.

Cheers.

Really is one of the best in its genre.

It does bug (haha) me though when games have you take damage for merely touching an enemies collision, it's just such a feels bad.
