You feel like you are in a Mad Max film. But this feeling ends quickly. Because this game requires too much grind. The game forces you to complete boring side quests and these quests are not something special. You need do same stuff for hours so that you can play the next main quest. They are not as bad as side quests but they are not fun enough to endure all the boring side quests.
Neither hand-to-hand nor car combat changes during the whole game. Upgrades only changes how much the combat takes. If the combat mechanics could evolve during the game, I could have finished it.
