"why should we help the disadvantaged without trying to get some amount of profit out of it?" is a genuine thing that is pondered in this expansion with no repercussions and i would have been less mad if stormblood wasn't so boring

at least the dungeons and trials were badass

"church bad because they won't let you fuck dragons" ends up being one of the neatest RPGs i've played in ever.

(i beat ARR before patch 5.3 slightly streamlined it and made it slightly easier, and even more patches smoothed a bunch of stuff out -- so i'll be talking from my experience then)

everyone i knew called a realm reborn a total slog but i don't think i ever felt that way playing it -- at least the 2.0 game. the story and worldbuilding was engaging, the characters and voice acting was dorky and fun, and the slow and steady introduction to the game's systems made it very easy to get hooked -- and this is only the second MMO i ever played.

the game has an intense lull in pacing at points, but i really really enjoyed a realm reborn.

ridiculously engaging throughout and incredibly challenging, yet fun. also, what if super meat boy was trans

i get a lot of flak for liking this game but name another game where you can play as superman and tag along with all might and goku and see rick sanchez going up and kamehameha'ing ariana grande wearing an among us backpack

sonic frontiers is the video game ever.

Sonic Frontiers can be a total mess. The game is filled to the brim with jank -- from frustrating enemies and bosses, a sense of exploration that is easily sidestepped by the game's side content, and frustrating game mechanics and level design. But also, I'd be completely lying if I said I didn't have a ton of fun with the game; who knew that dropping Sonic into a (semi) open world and letting him go up to utterly ridiculous speeds would end up being fun? The game's story is very neat too -- with a glimpse into things that I've been wondering about for years.

It's also refreshing to have the developers put some trust back into the player again -- as previous Sonic games felt incredibly marred with scripted events and automated path steering that felt like the game didn't trust the player at all. This is absent in Sonic Frontiers, and being able to do some ridiculous speed-running strats in the game's Cyberspace levels is really, really cool.

I think most of all, the game is very earnest. Sonic Frontiers is often a mess, but it's clear that SEGA tried very hard in doing something new and ambitious with the series.

Also, the soundtrack totally fucking rips.
