Top 10 Games of 2023

1: Lies of P
Got completely swept up in this game and ended up completing it four times. A remarkable achievement for this studio.

2: Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
Honestly I loved this so much it would probably be my number one choice if it wasn't technically an expansion for an already released title. I don't care about that classification too much since there was enough content here for an entire game so I'm putting it in at number 2.

3: The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
Incredibly fun with some really innovative mechanics that kept me engaged for well over 100 hours and I still didn't see or do everything. There is no denying it is fairly similar to the Breath of the Wild, even reusing the same map (for the most part). This didn't hinder my experience at all but it does knock the game back enough so that it falls into third place this year.

4. Alan Wake II
A weird, creative breath of fresh air for the genre that only gets above RE4 Remake because it is something completely new.

5. Resident Evil 4
A masterpiece yet again, but an all-too-familiar one. It did add and remix some sections but ultimately just provided the classic RE4 experience with a new lick of paint, which is by no means a bad thing. Because it isn't totally original, it ends up in fifth place for the year.

6. Dead Space
An exceptional remake that falls this low due to the reasons mentioned for RE4 Remake.

7. Starfield
I loved Starfield but after the extremely long wait, it didn't strike home in the way I thought it might. Still a great game, but a slightly disappointing one in the end.

8. Blasphemous II
I liked the first game but the developers upped the ante with the sequel in every way.

9. Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
My first AC game finds a place on my top 10 of 2023 due to fun, customisable mech combat that just felt... cool to play. I didn't feel too compelled to complete new game+, so ultimately the experience was a bit short-lived overall.

10. Hogwarts Legacy
Honestly, I expected this game to suck. I was pleasantly surprised when it didn't and in fact, Portkey Games delivered the best Harry Potter game ever made. It isn't amazing, but there is enough here to slot in at number 10.
