Poor man’s Halo

Brute Force had quite a bit of hype when it was coming out. A squad based multiplayer focused third-person shooter inspired by Halo exclusive to the Xbox was bound to get people talking. Too bad it’s poor man’s Halo.

Brute Force is a game that focuses on multiplayer. Its co-op nature is very prevalent with the tag-line “Dangerous alone - Deadly Together” and the ability for drop in drop out. So why is the frame rate so bad. It makes the second half of the game all but unplayable on multiplayer. Literal Microsoft PowerPoint type frame rate. It’s a multiplayer game. Completely inexcusable.

The gunplay itself is good. Guns are very loud and it feels nice to shoot enemies. Weapons are a little generic sci-fi but all have their uses. Level design is bland. Walk here, shoot guys, flip a switch. Very generic but doesn’t get in the way of the action.

Brute Force is a mid game with terrible performance. It shouldn’t have been released in this state.

4/10

The game is extremely bland in many departments, there is barely content at all and when they do it comes as a DLC.
Also the hitboxes are terrible, zombies barely do animations of attacking you yet get hit multiple times, one strong example of this is when a horde gets massive and passes through you instead of the zombies stopping to try and hit you then run you over and you get killed instantly.
Special zombies also have really unfair hitboxes, the lurker being able to jump you through walls or get you anyway when they jump in the wrong place: other one would be the bull, the bull instead of charging in a straight line it follows you movement doing even full 180º that will get you even if you get behind the corners of any buildings.
Also the companions AI is braindead and does less than the bare minimum

Good:
-Great production values, good graphics.
-Surprisingly good enemy variety.
Mixed:
-Is very parry-centric, if you don't like parrying don't play it.
-is a linear game.
Bad:
-it has Elden Ring syndrome in which enemies delay their attacks too much and are hyperaggressive.
-Gemini is a redditor
-The setting is stupid, i mean, a videogame free adaptation of Pinocchio? Are you fucking kidding me!? the developers are korean for god sake, Couldn't they have made a video game about the Samhan Era? (The Three Kingdoms of Korea)

Done.

The FitnessGram™ Pacer Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues. The 20 meter pacer test will begin in 30 seconds. Line up at the start. The running speed starts slowly, but gets faster each minute after you hear this signal. [beep] A single lap should be completed each time you hear this sound. [ding] Remember to run in a straight line, and run as long as possible. The second time you fail to complete a lap before the sound, your test is over. The test will begin on the word start. On your mark, get ready, start.

The trilogy and the souls series in general is pretty much the peak of the third person melee-focused 3D action RPG genre and the supreme jack of all trades of everything i like about video games and everything a good video game should be: simple but satisfying combat, a challenge, infinite replayability and customization thanks to the insane build variety, cool level design, cool boss fights, great enemy variety, cool music, memorable characters...

The series has my favorite stamina system in videogames: is in the perfect balance between not be too restrictive and not be too permissive, covering all your ofensive and defensive options (all forms of attacking, blocking with shields, parrying, dodge, running, even your weight affects stamina regeneration and has a negative stamina mechanic) instead like in most games where the stamina bar is either an artificial limitation, a bar for some special moves or just for sprinting and climbing, in this games it's such an integral part of the experience and it has so much synergy with the rest of the mechanics that something is lost without it.
And a little nitpick but I like the status effect system, having a gauge that slowly fills up per area of contact or per hit is an amazing way to implement status ailments in a melee action-rpg without resorting to nasty RNG or making it instant, more action-rpg should do it and if you hate moviegames dark souls games are pretty much the antitesis of those.

No wonder he ended up creating an entire subgenre of action RPG and his mainstream success is probably part of the reason why we're seeing more melee action RPGs in general, as this franchise has shown the industry that those types of games have a great potential yet to be discovered.

Lo que Ace Combat 5 no pudo ser + Españita.
