There are two reviews here, the first one is my first attempt at the game on "challenging" difficulty, I abandoned the game 3/4ths of the way through, the second review is my second attempt where I complete the game on "regular" difficulty. On the first playthrough I gave it a 1.5/5, on the second playthrough I give it a 2/5

FIRST REVIEW/PLAYTHROUGH:
A classic "boomer shooter", one of the more talked about titles.

I played this game on challenging. and holy shit is it challenging, but not in the right way. older games are always very unforgiving and hard, but Soldier of Fortune is just filled with jank and straight up bullshit. You will find yourself repeatedly getting sniped by enemies that are out of your view distance, You will find yourself walking around a corner or opening a door and literally the frame you do this a sniper has killed you. Enemies sometimes miss like storm troopers while other times having perfect aim and not missing a shot. Enemies will completely blend into the environment, especially when further away. Their accuracy does not change depending on how far away they are.

The character movement is somewhat slippery and not all that precise.

Now, most the guns are really awesome. The shotgun feels really great to use, but level design mostly punishes you for using it, as it will go from close quarters to long range back and forth with every step you take, so I found myself having to use the SMGs most of the time. The Uzi and SMG are both really fun to use, and feel good. The sniper is terrible and doesn't flow with the rest of the game at all. The first pistol is dogshit but the ripoff Deagle is really good, but can feel inaccurate, maybe that's just me being bad. I didn't even get to the point where I used Machine guns or anything like that, as this game has just frustrated me with all the janky bullshit. There is a lot of trial and error as well.

The game itself looks really good, characters look interesting and so does the map aesthetics, and the sound is superb. This seems like the type of game that I'd love, but I'm sick of opening a door and getting shot one frame later. Also the turrets and tanks are ridiculously strong. I didn't try a lower difficulty, so I don't know how those fair. If you play this, I strongly advise not playing on challenging, as you will die a lot, with 90% of the deaths not being your fault.

SECOND REVIEW/PLAYTHROUGH:

Ok so, nearly a year later or something, I watch a youtube video where the guy just jerks off about how great this game is, so I say man, maybe the game just sucks on challenging, so I decide to playthrough it on regular, and I fully completed it.

It's not the worst shooter in the world, it's just completely average. The gun models and sounds are fucking awesome, the gore and all that is great, but the gameplay itself is just average.

So I found on challenging I'm just constantly dying from cheap deaths and getting shot by enemies I can't even see, here I found I died only a handful of times, most of my deaths being in the final level. It's fucking LEAGUES easier just one difficulty down. I think it's too easy here, but at least it feels like the game was made with this difficulty level in mind.

The biggest challenge now is just getting through the fucking levels, and this is my biggest problem with the game: the level design is shit. I feel like most levels was just me aimlessly wandering around hallways and rooms that all looked identical until I finally found where I was supposed to go. The worst offender of this is the factory level where you have to find and turn 4 little knobs around a massive factory, shit's just annoying.

BTW the machine gun is easily the best gun in the game, as everything else either doesn't get enough ammo or is weaker.

Overall this is just an average FPS campaign, nothing special here really, John Mullens is a cool character and there's some awesome stuff in here, but it's just not that fun. Average game I say.

A bonus note, I feel like I'm fucking crazy for not liking this game. scouring reviews across the internet, everyone fucking loves it and compares it to other FPS greats, and they all talk about how satisfying and fun it is. Its like they saw the shooting but not the levels. This really should be a game I love on paper, but it's just so annoying. I don't understand how someone could love this game, as it's just so insanely flawed. Maybe I still don't understand Soldier of Fortune, but after two playthroughs, I'm done with it and 2 is final.

The best LEGO game ever. One of my most played games as a child, absolutely loved it. Great slapstick humor that has aged well, variation in levels due to just using the star wars films. The character roster is awesome. Though now it may seem dull compared to newer LEGO games, it holds up in some aspects and is a generally good time, not like LEGO games have changed much. The game is just mostly fun.

The main drawback to this game and every LEGO game is that it is ridiculously easy. The game treats you like a brain dead moron and therefore there is little to no challenge, and no consequences for failure. This can make the game stale and boring, but it's got so much charm it holds up mostly. Oddly enough the game play is the weakest aspect of this game and really all LEGO games. I think I give this game and other Lego titles a 3.5 mostly out of nostalgia.

Played this on PS5 in Fidelity mode, Platinum'd it on the second hardest difficulty.

This is a pretty damn good 3D action platformer. On a technical and graphical standpoint, this game is phenomenal, the graphics look so beautiful, and the feeling of instantly going from one area to the next was such a neat feeling, really gives you a sense of "this is next gen". All the controls are very fluid, combat is consistent like 90% of the time, and the camera is solid but could be better.

Now, some issues; Most of the worlds weren't all that interesting for me, like they were just OK in terms of aesthetic, memorability, etc. Though, I can't remember ANY of the planet names cause they're just a bit forgettable. My favorite planet being the Pirate one just cause I like that aesthetic. All the places are very beautiful in their own right, but they just feel somewhat uninspired and lacking creativity. Along with this, the music is completely forgettable, I cannot even think of a single song from this game.

The game got pretty old for me towards the end. The combat most notably gets pretty tiring after awhile. I want to say there's like 5-6 primary enemy types, and you've seen them all like halfway through the game. Idk man combat is just pretty simple, linear, and not all that satisfying. There are some difficulty spikes which were nice, but in general, even if you were to play on the hardest difficulty, the game is easy, but yk this is a modern kids game so what do you expect. Combat is clean, easy to control, but just a bit mind-numbing and dull. The combat in this game gives me a very similar feeling of boredom I get from the combat from Insomniacs Spider-Man. It looks exciting, but it really isn't.

This complaint is entirely personal, as anyone else could disagree. I think the story is boring and lame, all the characters are boring and lame, and none of the humor in this is funny. The story is as generic as one could make for this template of game. Rifts open, characters meet with their counterpart from other rift and all team up and work together in harmony. I mean seriously, the 4 main characters are always just loving eachother and it's just dull. The whole bit between Rivet and Kit just feels like I'm watching a movie made for 8 year olds, was clear that'd be resolved, in-fact, the entire story is extremely predictable. The characters and humor feels borderline corporate, like a modern Disney movie but without the Disney charm.

Despite my complaints, this is a pretty solid game that I'd recommend. It does exactly what it wants and offers an enjoyable experience. It's just an average 3D platformer. Just dull at times, and will likely be forgotten to time, I know I'll certainly forget about this game through the years.

Still though, if you just want a simple fun adventure 3D platformer/shooter game this is a good pick.

Game sucks.

Starts off pretty fun in the tournament then just becomes a side scroller with bad platforming and nonstop enemy spam. The best way to describe this game is obnoxious.

Multi-player is probably fun but this sucks.

GOD THIS GAME STINKS!

This is the second worst MMA game I've ever played, the title for the worst goes to Supremacy MMA: Unrestricted. This game is just terrible man.

I don't know how to describe the combat to you, but the combat is super janky and is just aids. I mean seriously the game play is just atrocious I don't know how else to say it.

An important flaw is that this game has a health bar. Anyone that has played MMA games knows that MMA games with health bars generally suck. This is because it's not realistic at all and it just doesn't mesh with more grounded fighting.

The roster for this game is laughably small. There's literally only 7 fighters in this game. For a regular fighting game that's fine, but for an MMA game that's terrible. Just goes to show Bellator is lacking in star power. Granted I didn't watch Bellator back when this game came out nor am I a huge bellator fan, but I only recognized 4 fighters out of the 7. There's a character creator but I didn't really look into that. I feel safe in betting it sucked.

Just overall not worth your time. A complete shit show, how such a large organization green-lit this shit is beyond me.

Almost any other MMA game will be better, key word ALMOST. Don't play it.

An absolutely CLASSIC beat em up, definitely a solid game.

But that's all it is. Level design is nearly non-existent, as you fight the same types of enemies over and over, and the enemy has no AI or anything. Combat just gets dull pretty fast, the humor never lands personally. Just kinda get bored of this game pretty fast, nothing to really keep me engaged.

This is also a MUST PLAY with friends, or else you'll get bored even faster.

Just a solid beat em up that gets dull, nothing much going on for me personally.

Played on PS5 on hard difficulty

Now, it hurts to give this game a 2/5, but that's just how I feel. This is a beautiful little game and I respect the hell out of the small team that made this, but this just is a meh game.

The presentation is obviously beautiful, it look gorgeous. Everyone already knows that. But, one thing I noticed is that the entire map looks basically the same. I was worried of getting lost considering the entire maps looks like one area. The world is beautiful yet lacks diversity.

Also in terms of open world, there is no open world. This is an EXTREMELY linear game, and that's ok. Just throwing it out there.
There's like basically 4 or 3 zones in the game and they all kinda feel the same.

I was really not a fan of any of the characters in this game. They're all extremely boring and have no charm to them. I really didn't give a fuck about Kena or anyone else cause no one has any personality. Couldn't give two shits about this games story honestly man. Also the voice acting was kinda weird and goofy in some places, but it's ok.

The upgrade system was ok, but there are a handful of upgrades that just felt useless. It gets the job done though.

The puzzles in this game were stupid honestly. There is zero indication on what you even have to do, and it's like a hyper specific little detail that you have to recognize to get through some. And the ones that were easy just felt so fucking easy an ape could do it. I'm just gonna chalk this one up to bad game design.

There's like 3 or 4 main enemy types which get super old super fast, and there's a handful of bosses that all just have way too much health and take way too long to kill to where it just feels like a slog. The game overall is extremely easy up until the final two bosses, then stuff ramps up and it gets difficult. The final boss is like a fucking marathon I swear.

Movement in this game is also kinda annoying when trying to do tight movements or tight platforming, it can be annoying. But the most annoying bit of the movement that was driving me insane is that Kena just gets stuck on every little bit of the ground so its like your character is stuttering in place as you're walking. I haven't seen anyone else talk about this but I swear the ENTIRE game Kena would just get stuck on any terrain and would stutter and bump around when walking. It was so fucking annoying.

I didn't like the combat in this game. I can't decide if the story or the combat is the worst part of this game, but it's one of them. The game heavily punishes you for trying to do any melee combat, so the only way to consistently not get hit in combat is to just sit back with ur bow. Just shoot and run until enemies are dead. Shit is boring as hell. There is just no fun in this combat.

Really hate to shit all over this game as I highly respect the team that made this, but god damn this just isn't a fun game, I didn't like it man. It looks very good and all but yeah actual game play and story sucks. Really sad about it cause I was hyped for this the moment they showed it.

God this game sucks so much. It is one of the worst games I've ever played.

There are ZERO redeeming qualities on this game. The only positive thing I can say about it is that it functions on some level.

Best Mario Kart ever

I played this game nonstop as a kid, the news of having to go to Kindergarten sucked as it meant I couldn't play Mario Kart Wii as much. I was a fucking wizard, no one, not even my dad, could even contest me in Mario Kart. I was a god amongst men. Now in MK8 Online, I still have prowess but people know such advanced tactics that they're able to beat me (fucking gold mario players)

I recently went and replayed through the entire game (unlocking everything) on the Dolphin Emulator, I used an Xbox One controller and mapped it as a gamecube controller, It worked very well.

This game has the best roster in any Mario Kart game EASILY. Not all these stupid variations of Mario or Peach or something, but a bunch of fan favorites. The inclusion of Funky Kong was just a bonus, and Diddy Kong is a must have in Mario Kart. Seriously why the fuck is Diddy not in MK8? Rosalina was a great addition, you have more abstract characters like Birdo. It seems most Mario Games from the Wii era had the best rosters.

The track selection is very solid, though Baby Park is noticeably absent, and unfortunately Dino Dino Jungle is also missing. Still, the track list is expansive and great, featuring 8 whole Cups, which is a lot. Koopa Capes is my favorite map. Also Wii has the best Rainbow Road 100%.

Also to note, the graphics in this game look great, everything is so aesthetically pleasing and has so much charm to it. This also applies to the music.

I think the game plays much tighter than Double Dash, and is therefore less chaotic. But this game is way harder than Double Dash. The AI fucking hates you, they're all out to get you. on 150 cc and mirror, the AI is gonna hit you like a million times, you could be speed running the map and you bump into a corner once, and it's all over. Shits rough.

This is just the best Mario Kart in almost every aspect for me. If you struggle with the controls, plug in a classic or game cube controller, or if you're emulating like me use any controller. It works great.

A must play game.

The name of the game tells you exactly what you're in for.

This game, while not perfect, is a masterpiece. I kinda hated the crafting system but it makes sense, and the main story is just kinda in the background and is kinda bare bones, but this is first and foremost an adventure game. And I'd say this is one of the best adventure games ever, possibly the best. I'm not even a Zelda fan, but the pure atmosphere and sense of adventure is phenomenal, it completely immersed me in the world. This game is bustling with creativity and charisma. It oozes charm. Filled with content, so much to explore and discover.

Just a blast. A must play.

This is the NES one btw.

Another terrible Arnold game. This game is so fucking lame man.

The game has 5 levels, and they seem to hit the key moments of the film, but yeah idk man, level design is pretty lame here.

The entire combat is just walking up to an enemy, mashing punch, backing away, repeat. That is the game. It isn't satisfying or fun at all, just super tedious and boring. The boss at the bar is fucking annoying man. Also why is Arnold just a normal sized guy that dies from punches?

The biking level looks cool but it's really just a nightmare to play, controls like hell. Whole game is just rough man.

I will say the game looks pretty cool, and the death screen is actually awesome. The terminator theme is absent though. I feel like if ljn actually put more care into this is could have been a good one, but this just sucks. Feels like a cash grab.

Not worth playing really at all!

A pretty good stealth game, which was excellent for 2002.

It has aged somewhat poorly, the combat is kinda bad, enemies can spot you and shoot you through walls, the lighting is sometimes inconsistent and you can get spotted or shot at despite being completely in the dark, crouched and not moving.

Though frustrating at times, it is still a well made and detailed game, I'd say this has more detail than games in 2021.

The story is also pretty generic and not interesting, your usual Russia/China bad, don't let them nuke the US.

Overall a good game and worth playing if you're into the stealth genre, but to the average gamer I'd say they probably wouldn't enjoy it much. Oh final bit, the PC controls are really weird, and you can't even creak doors on it.

A Super Mid Party

The game is Mario Party. it's serviceable and I've had fun with it with friends. But I bought it for $60, and this game is not worth $60, it's got a lack of content.

A fairly decent character roster, but nothing really exciting or cool, just the standard and expected roster for any Mario related game, and a handful of lesser known or just smaller unique characters, like common enemies are playable, thank god Diddy's here at least. Just a solid plain roster. That's a common theme of this game, everything just seems kinda plain. Though I do enjoy the idea of each character having their own dice, and luckily characters I usually play have good dices lol.

The biggest issue of the entire game comes here: only four boards in the entire game. I mean that is a laughably small amount of boards, the first Mario Party for the Nintendo64 had double that. The maps are solid no doubt, but they seem to lack a certain charm to it, it feels kinda soulless and empty idk why. But the lack of maps is the major issue to this game.

I like a lot of the game modes and they have cool ideas with the joycon but I find myself bored of the games and they get stale relatively fast.

The raft mode is kinda nonsense, most the bonus modes are, but at least it's content right. I guess it is worth this is the first real Mario Party on the go, but who's gonna drop an hour- two hours out and about.

Online play is only available for mini games and not actual games, and it's just like why? it makes no sense really. I feel like a fucking board game would be the easiest game to add online for. Just a bizarre choice to not include full online, but the true way to experience Mario Party is with friends in real life of course, so, not the end of the world.

Overall not the worst game, it's a competent Mario Party game that checks off a handful of boxes, but with a complete lack of content is gets stale fast. And the game overall just feels like it has a lack of soul. All these problems are amplified when seeing the new Mario Party Superstars, which is basically better than this game in just about every single way. I have not played this new game but it seems to me Super Mario Party is rendered obsolete by it. Definitely not worth the $60 dollars I spent, I'd say this is worth like $30 bucks.

Yeah, serviceable, but you're now probably better off playing other entries in the series.

Another meh Star Wars Atari game

Cool graphics and all, also cool to have voice lines, but the gameplay is kinda boring, you can just go through objects and it doesn't matter. You can also basically beat the game in like 5 minutes.

It's an old arcade game so there's no ending or anything it's just a never ending game where you try to rack up score.

Just kinda dull, not much going on here, but it functions so that's a plus.
