While not as good as it's predecessors, Silent Hill 3 definitely upped the ante in scares and violence. Makes some odd choices in terms of puzzle solving and some stretches in logic, but Heather steals the show as one of the most realistic and pragmatic heroes of the Silent Hill series while being the one who was put through the ringer the most.

A masterclass in game design and environmental storytelling, Silent Hill 2 was an unnerving nightmare. Everything had a double meaning, the context of the story kept changing with each new twist in the narrative. Unsettling does not even begin to describe this game.

An ugly mess but a fantastic horror game. Turning survival horror into more of a psychological nightmare, Silent Hill transformed what should be safe havens (schools, hospitals) into incredibly scary and hellish scenarios.
