This just, just takes the cake for my favourite racing game of all time. It was very close between this and the first Horizon game, but Horizon 3 just, just edges it out. Between the huge car roster, what is still to this day my favourite map in any open-world racer, and some smooth as butter car physics, FH3 takes everything that made Horizon 2 good, eliminates its flaws, and ramps it up to 11 with that same festival atmosphere that gave FH1 so much character. Forza has been going downhill since this game, and who can really blame Playground - how can you improve on this?
Whilst I still consider this game to just fall short of its' successor, the only reason for that in the case of Portal 1 really is the fact that I wanted more. Everything about this game - from the outstanding environmental design to the utterly haunting soundtrack which is amongst the most beautiful I have ever heard in a video game - particularly Self Esteem Fund - just leaves me wanting more. I think that, personally, this game is a better experience than Portal 2 overall. However, it's a lesser game. Yet, even making those statements is disingenuous, as it implies either game is flawed. They aren't. In any way.
Portal 2 is still, without doubt, my favourite video game that I have ever played. Combining near-perfect level design, some of the best writing I've ever experienced in any piece of media, amazingly memorable characters, graphics which still hold up extremely well ten years later, and an industrial soundtrack that takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions across the entire thing. It cannot get better than this.
