Shooting and setpieces is fun. Some of the levels are good. Trash story.

Wolfenstein 2 The New Colossus

Coming from a long time fan who loved pretty much all the wolf games. This game is very frustrating.

This game is pretty mid nearing bad. I dunno why it is the way it is but god damn if it didn't frustrate me to no end.

Gameplay is pretty boring. You go from a to b and during that you gotta kill commanders asap before more enemies spawn if you are spotten. The game really doeesn't do much more than this. No enemy variety and no scenario variety aside from like 3.

The level design is horrible. The levels are very linear yet the game attempts to make it seem otherwise by giving you so many dumb hallways that lead to nothing but some collectables (and even that isn't really a given). It also doesn't help how every level is bland and pretty much a wasteland or sewer looking thing.

Combat can be good. But its rare its fun. From the weird difficulty spikes to the stupid decisions like having you mash square to pick up stuff. First game and dlc also did this and I am still not sure why they do it. Actually I know why for the health at least, for the overcharge health system. I wanna understand why it is even here. What's so bad about walking over medkits and getting health? Same with ammo and armor. Why do you want me staring at the ground while I am being shot at instead of just cutting the bullshit.

The story was also weirdly dumb. First game was very well done and charming. Meanwhile this one attempts to be serious and handle serious things only to then turn around and insert toilet humor out of nowhere destroying the tension and the mood.

In comparison Wolfenstein 2009 and Return did so much better in their design. From level variety to enemy variety to weapon varity (no seriously, why is this game so limited compared to the old games? And the enemies... Fighting the same types over and over got boring fast.)

4.5/10 Mediocre,

Mortal Kombat 1

I am impressed. This story was really satisfying and reminded me a lot of MK9's story mode. Unlike past two MK, this did a good job making it feel satisfying.

They for the most part avoided the jobber problem they usually have where you have some really cool characters get turned into jobbers for the heroes to kill. This mostly avoided this and managed to make characters that were used as jobbers before cool again. Reptile being the best example. I really enjoyed this take on him. He is a great character that was robbed of his worth because of how much they sidelined him in most games since 3d era started. ||I picked him in the final battle of course and it was badass.|| The spoiler was a genius way of making the characters that didn't get enough stuff in the story mode to shine for a moment. Good decision overall.

I also really liked the remixed takes on the characters that returned. Raiden and Kung Lao are way cooler than they were usually. Johnny is Johnny but he is cool here. Past takes on him were missing something and this was great. Liu Kang also fits the wise god position in this. He is like old Raiden except competent and has a personality. Great job NR. I also loved how even Shao Khan has more to him than being blatantly evil. This reminds me, Sindel was a character that made me mad last time. They made her evil and she lost a great part of her character so I am glad they fixed it in this. She feels like a mother and is a badass. Just the way she should be. And her daughter Millena is great too. Really, most of the characters are just straight upgrades and I love that.

I guess I see why people dislike this game content wise. It really does feel empty. I dunno why it is the way it is. I will have to dig into it later and see if there is something I am missing.

Going forward I really hope MK13 does something new. I want the story mode to bring back Konquest mode. That mode was really cool and this game had so many cool vistas and locations that made me just imagine how cool it is to get back the RPG mode from deception and let us look into this world. I wanna visit order and chaos realms again. Please do it NR. Or at least give us Shaolin Monks like mode at least. While I liked the campaign this game had, it was begging for something new. I think the time is now.

I am not that good at describing the combat for this game but it felt like a smoother and better version of MK9 which is my favorite. You just pick a character and play with them. No longer do you have to choose from 3 different stances/modes. This was a welcome change as I always felt those were really meh to play with. The Kameo system is a way better choice and it also helps it added some extra characters for you to use exclusively for it.

Overall I am happy with this game. I played it in three sittings and was hooked.
