2017

ARMS represents the off-shoot rare IPs that Nintendo comes up with every now and then. This is by no means a fantastic game nor does it offer a ton of gameplay but I personally enjoyed my time with this game and set my expectations in check in order to enjoy it.

Gameplay is quirky and different from anything else I've played before which is one of the aspects I enjoyed the most about this game. Generally, gameplay seems slow due to the extended arms melee combat but the game does warrant quick thinking and properly strategizing against the different fighters the game has to offer.

Overall, this game features unique gameplay, interesting characters and colorful graphics. Worth checking out if you are a Switch owner.

One of the best entries for old-school classic SNK fighting games. It features an ample roster of characters and improves on a number of different aspects from previous KOF games delivering an incredibly solid classic KOF package.

At one point in my gaming "career" I started questioning if there would be another timeless masterpiece in the same vein as Ocarina of Time or Super Mario 64. I was almost convinced that perhaps nostalgia acted as an enhancement drug that blinded judgment of any and all modern games depriving them to achieve, in my eyes, the greatness of said classic games. But then, in March of 2017 I've learned that, someway, somehow, Nintendo managed to re-create said gaming masterpiece through The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

It's almost pointless to describe what makes this game a timeless masterpiece and say things that haven't already been said in the hundreds of perfect reviews this game has received from all sorts of media and publications. In short, this game provides a masterful package of great graphics, great presentation, an interesting art direction for the series, an intriguing start of the game and story development (despite its simplicity), great game play (weapon breaking system was not a major letdown for me) and great simplistic soundtrack. Perhaps the biggest wow moment in this game came from its vast open-world which, despite being barren in several locations, it provided a canvas of free exploration and discovery to players. Shrines are very well designed and provide the perfect amount of game play time with most of them being on the short side and providing interesting puzzles.

All in all, this is a must-play for any gaming enthusiast and it's one of those games that I can say I'm happy I was around when it launched to experience what it offered and how it's becoming an influential and keystone game as time moves on.

What at one point was considered to be a glimmer of hope to increase sales and popularity of the PlayStation Vita system, it ended up being a rushed mess of a game that wound up hurting the reputation of the system and angered fans.

There is nothing that stands out in this game. Graphics are ok, gunplay is average and level design and progression are very poor. The only redeeming quality of this game is that it's fairly short in terms of the single-player campaign. Multiplayer was a hot glitchy mess.

A solid entry in the Ys series. This was the first modern Ys game I've played with the action on-the-fly character change mechanic and I enjoyed how seamless this feature is and the variety it provides in terms of fast-paced action combat system.

The story is solid, although a bit convoluted compared to earlier Ys games but this is a trend with modern Ys games. Exploring the forest of Celceta was fun all the while trying to figure out what exactly occurred with Adol and his memories.

The dungeon/levels design is a bit all over the place in this game and while the fast-paced combat is fluid and fun for the most part, it can start becoming a bit repetitive and mindless once you equip your characters appropriately.

A fantastic game to close out the Drake saga in the Uncharted series. This games takes all the components that have made previous Uncharted games successful and brings it up a notch. I enjoyed the story in this game and how Nathan Drake is portrayed and how his story unfolds throughout the game.

Goes without saying, but this game takes advantage of the PS4 hardware to create the best-to-date Uncharted game, courtesy of the wizards at Naughty Dog. Vistas and set pieces in this game are out of this world and push the PS4 hardware to incredible levels (even on a base PS4). Even though it feels like this game is a bit slower-paced than previous ones, it works really well with updated gameplay and gunplay versus older titles.

A must-have and must-play for any action-adventure fans out there.

This PS4 reimagining of the original game is the best way to enjoy the game. Despite the updates you can still feel some dated design elements from the original but nothing major. The game remains fun and provides a fun experience with a new coat of graphics, sounds, and improved gameplay.

I approached this game carefully with all the controversy regarding the game being online only but ended up really liking and playing it for a good amount of time. While it is weird to play the 'campaign' through online battles, I thought the concept was interesting and since the core online gameplay was solid with the concepts of soldier/mech variants, it ended up being an enjoyable experience.

Gears 4 manages to reinvigorate the series with a coat of improved graphics over the last gen mixed with the same action-packed third-person shooter gameplay with slight refinements. The story is interesting and manages to keep a certain level of interest throughout the game. Overall, I had fun playing this coop with a friend.

Another entry in the FIFA series with decent improvements over previous games due to being in the third year of its generation giving EA time to sort out some of the kinks that were in earlier versions.

This is a solid third-person action game set in the Roman Empire time. Unfortunately, I think this was overlooked due to the poor first impressions the Xbox One had upon release but in reality, this is a very solid game with great graphics (for the time), good gameplay, good sound and respects players' time by being a relatively short experience.

Bought this to experience this classic without expecting too much. I always wanted to own the early CD based systems of the early to mid 90s to experience all these FMV games and I'm glad they re-released Night Trap in this new package.

I'm also glad they added quality of life improvements such as different camera views and alerts that make things a little bit easier. At any rate, the game is not great and the fun instead relies on the cheesy acting and ideas of the time.

Solid entry in the Mario Tennis series, perhaps one of the best. Adventure mode does not quite hit that itch for an RPG mode that fans have been claiming for both Tennis and Golf games but it's a fun mode nevertheless with the exception of some cheesy boss encounters here and there.

Yet another yearly entry in the FIFA series. Played this on the Xbox One via Game Pass / EA Access.

Cringey SNK fighting game featuring lead female characters from different fighting series (including a female version of Terry Bogard).

Interesting gameplay mechanic where enemies have to be defeating by using a special final move. Villain for this game is a creep.
