Games I've beat in 2021 ranked

Only games that I've beaten, not ones that I've started or have almost completed. I don't hate or even dislike most games at the bottom, I just like the ones at the top more

The Caligula Effect 2
The Caligula Effect 2
Great characters and music. Gameplay is really fun to break too. Looking forward to Yamanaka's next game

1

Xenoblade Chronicles
Xenoblade Chronicles
Stunning game with a good story that has a lot of foreshadowing. I like to wind down sometimes by putting this on and running around the fields of Bionis

2

Persona 2: Eternal Punishment
Persona 2: Eternal Punishment
Great wrap up of the original Persona trilogy and a great send off for these beloved characters. Last great persona game fr

3

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux
Great use of alignments and alignment reps (except neutral). Story is pretty good too and it has really fun gameplay. The last good SMT game and also the best SMT story

4

Deus Ex
Deus Ex
Great music, great variety of options in gameplay, good story. I've always loved sci-fi stories and aesthetics

5

Shin Megami Tensei II
Shin Megami Tensei II
Unique use of alignments + only one alignment rep makes for a pretty interesting story. If it was made today by the original creative team with SJ type visuals it'd probably be the best SMT game

6

The Caligula Effect: Overdose
The Caligula Effect: Overdose
God tier music, relatable characters and an interesting combat system lead to a really cool game. Too bad it's really easy

7

Dishonored: Definitive Edition
Dishonored: Definitive Edition
Story kinda meh but the maps are well designed and you have tons of ways of approaching a mission. Great art style too which prevents the game from looking outdated

8

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition
The Witcher: Enhanced Edition
Really cool atmosphere with an interesting albeit easy take on combat

9

Yakuza 4 Remastered
Yakuza 4 Remastered
Really badass story with some dumb plot convenience moments. The section leading up to the final boss had me soying so hard

10

Revelations: Persona
Revelations: Persona
God tier OST and some cool characters. Story isn't that great but the overall experience is really fun

11

Yakuza
Yakuza
Not really sure what to say about this one but it was pretty fun. Would recommend 👍

12

Shin Megami Tensei
Shin Megami Tensei
Innovative take on RPGs and post apocalyptic stories with some really cool set pieces

13

Drakengard
Drakengard
Story and characters are just okay but the absurdity later on makes up for it. Combat on foot was pretty fun, loved racking up humongous combos and using magic and the dragon combat is genuinely fun and challenging. Really interesting OST too

14

NieR
NieR
Good story, great characters and memorable ost. I used to think this game was just okay but Automata gave me a newfound appreciation for it

15

Yakuza 2
Yakuza 2
Great characters and lock on actually works now. Still mixed on the ending of the game but at least it's kinda cool

16

Yakuza 3 Remastered
Yakuza 3 Remastered
Great evolution of the previous games. Combat isn't as bad as zoomers say it is. If you rushed through the game without learning Komaki techniques and you complain about enemies blocking that is entirely your fault

17

Shin Megami Tensei V
Shin Megami Tensei V
Proof this franchise is creatively dead but hey at least you get to punch god in the face right hahahahahahahahaha

18

NieR: Automata
NieR: Automata
2/3 of this game has boring story and characters and the final 1/3 isn't enough to make up for the rest. Mid ass combat + the entire game being yellow/green/grey + that filter they randomly use results in horrible button mashing gameplay where you can't tell what's going on. Music is pretty forgettable too
