An improvement gameplay wise. Grinding isn't as infuriating (though still a bit of an issue), the side stuff is still worth checking out to distract yourself, and it's also a bit on the easy side compared to Yakuza 7: Like A Dragon. That said, I found the story to be disjointed, especially towards the end, and the pacing was a mess. Forcing you on side stuff tutorials, even if I enjoyed it, isn't fun at all in the slightest.

By all accounts this game is way more frustrating than Zero but it also has some peak moments and every time Lloyd says something about barriers I clap so it's gotta be at least almost as good

My only gripes with this game are the fact sometimes it's took dark to see anything (that could very well be a problem with my TV though) and the boss lineup aside from Ridley and the final boss. I would say the backtracking is also a negative but part of what makes metroidvanias so special is going back to previous areas and discovering new things with the new abilities you've acquired and this game was full of that. Other than those possible shortcomings, this is one of the best Metroid games.

The lesson is, you gotta live

Fuck self-sacrifice

This might be just me but I find it incredibly hilarious how in most these types of cartoony action games the villains go to jail or have to do some kind of community service for comedic effect at the end but here they all just die and nobody comments on it

A mixture of the platforming and traversal system of Sunset Overdrive, the hack and slash combat system of Devil May Cry, and the visual aesthetic and soundtrack of Jet Set Radio, Hi-Fi Rush pretty much dropped out of nowhere like a surprised album dropped. The vibe itself just gives me an early 2000's Xbox game, reliving my childhood of playing games like JSRF. And I mean that in the best way possible. A vibe I never had the experience on getting since 2003. So glad that this game finally cured that itch almost 20 years later. An absolute blast to play and I cannot wait to revisit this game again in the future.

Yo this game kinda slept on though?? Like I was surprised with how much I enjoyed this for an early NES game clearly trying to hop on Pac-man's coat tails. It's nothing amazing obviously but I can actually see myself popping this in and chillin sometime.

It still makes me sad just how many kino ingredients there are in the finale of this game (and the og by extension) and it still manages to fumble it so hard thank god the later games stick the landing way better for the most part

Anyways, having actually played the og Yakuza 2 before this replay I can pretty definitively say that I prefer this remake, the removed content sucks but at the end of the day I like K2's more streamlined structure way more than Y2's cryptic bullshit and at least the new content is mostly pretty dope

In a way, I feel X8 represents the X series really well; it has some pretty abysmal lows but also some astronomical highs and that's really what this series is all about

And by that I mean that this game is peak as hell and nobody understands it but me

Dopamine from collecting items is so cool

I wish missiles were real
