Unlike other Smash games, this is complicated to review, so I'll just break it up to give out my full thoughts.
First of all, the game's main gimmick, "Everyone is Here!" That's an automatic 5/5 for the roster, it's pretty much an endless amount of fighters to select, along with some newcomers and DLC! If I have one complaint about the roster minus some issues with the DLC, it's that this is the least amount of newcomers, not counting Echo Fighters.
The stage selection is very good, with so many excellent returning stages. However, I do have an issue with some fan favorites not returning like PAC-MAZE, so yeah that sucks. Also, there are only 5 brand new stages, not counting DLC and Small Battlefield. 4.5/5.
Onto the main mode, "Smash", it's pretty standard, 4/5. But wait, why only a 4 instead of a 5? Well, that mainly has to do with how stale the extra goodies are becoming, like Custom Smash.
Games & More, 3/5. Classic Mode is neat, but I felt underwhelmed because I thought it was repetitive, should've just been an expanded version of Melee's Classic Mode. The training mode is a joke, but I don't really lab, so I don't really mind. Mob Smash is standard, however, it ruined All-Star Mode, HUGE missed opportunity. Home-Run Contest is great, as per usual. Stage Builder here is the best it's been in the series, however, I'm still underwhelmed after being exposed to great-level editors like Halo's Forge.
Spirits are neat, but they're not fun enough to continuously keep playing Spirit Battles.
World of Light as a spiritual successor to Event Mode is... fine, but as a story mode, this mode reeks. 1.5/5.
Online REEKS!
>No ranking
>GSP grinding is a chore
>No way to play Quickplay without worrying about GSP
>Delay-based
>Bigger input delay than offline
>Underwealming Battle Arena system
1.5/5
I love this game to death, heck, I have over 2,000 hours into it, and I'm heavily involved in its community, but I still think this game has some major flaws that prevent me from giving it a perfect score.
