Incredibly Unfair Games That Would Be Worse If They Were Fair

They hate you, they want to see you dead.

Mario Party
Mario Party
[SERIES REPRESENTATIVE]

The icon of this idea. If Mario Party was a game anybody couldn't win then there'd be no point to it. All that "planning" and "strategy" don't matter once Chance Time starts, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

MP1 is particularly cruel and will do things like remove coins from players for losing minigames.
100% Orange Juice
100% Orange Juice
Possibly even more unfair than Mario Party is because everything has to do with dice rolls. Sometimes you just straight up lose and there's nothing you could have done differently at any point.

I hate Star Breaker so much.
Dokapon Kingdom: Connect
Dokapon Kingdom: Connect
Like the previous two games except this time it's Monopoly and the length of a JRPG.
Super Mario Maker
Super Mario Maker
User created content inevitably is subjected to this fate. Everyone can make levels, including people who shouldn't.
Syobon Action
Syobon Action
The Mario Maker troll level way before Mario Maker was a thing.
I Wanna Be the Guy
I Wanna Be the Guy
[SERIES REPRESENTATIVE]

IWBTG inspired a whole genre of this kind of game. Therefore, it stands for basically any game with the "I Wanna Be" prefix.
The Ultimate Challenge from Beat Takeshi
The Ultimate Challenge from Beat Takeshi
I wish I hated video games this much.
The Witch's House
The Witch's House
[GENRE REPRESENTATIVE]

RPGMaker Horror games in general do this a lot, but The Witch's House is fairly iconic in the ways it kills you.
Fear & Hunger
Fear & Hunger
...yeah.
Rain World
Rain World
Allegedly this game is a platformer where the level design is an "ecosystem not meant for the player" instead of traditional design. Multiple people recommended it to be in the list.

I personally have not played it at the time of writing though. Soon!
The Impossible Quiz
The Impossible Quiz
The 2007 reimagination of a mid-1900s American literacy test designed to disenfranchise voters.
The Password Game
The Password Game
The significantly younger and more evergreen little brother of The Impossible Quiz.
