The story and the world are kept fairly vague throughout the game, but I think what really makes the whole experience shine is the characters. This avant garde world, which doesn't and can never resemble our own, ends up feeling like a 1:1 copy of our own because of the way the characters handle and respond to it and the terrible events it throws at them. It's a formula that isn't new by any means, but it's really pushed to the limit with this game and there is enough personal touch by the director to make it a new and uniquue experience.

The nihilism is a main driving point which further makes it feel personal. It acknowledges the lack of answer to most existential and philosophical questions which countless philosophers and common plebs have sought an answer to in the past and still do today, but this isn't a new concept in itself either. In the process of acknowledging and reinforcing the dread of nihilism, it also spells out the special moments in life which make it worth living. The little things that are meaningless in the grand scheme of things but they make us happy nonetheless. Most importantly, it shows you a world without those little things that make us want to push forward and live to fight another day. And it hits hard when you see it. It hurts. By the time you are done with the game, you are glad to be who you are. You are glad to be human and you are glad to be alive.
