game starts with cool combat and then drowns you in it. every time you need to get somewhere you can rest assured that the game will stop you at least five times to either sneak past or defeat enemies. it mauls its pacing to the point where the combat wore out it's welcome.

I think i’m burnt out on open world games. It sucks that it had to be THIS game’s play-through where I realized it, but oh well

while at first collecting was an enjoyable activity, after hour 20 it really started to drag. the combat grew stale, switching between stances depending on enemy type is cool but I can only spam square and triangle so many times. I tried to vary it up with stealth but… a pure stealth approach is boring for similar reasons. If the combat had some more depth to it, I might still be playing?

I know if I gunned through this it would’ve taken maybe a few more hours, but I hate the idea of leaving so much content on the table, but I also hate basic collection shit… so the spiral starts.

This isn’t to say I think this game is entirely bad! It’s so fucking pretty, and the side stories are interesting (for the most part. some of those tiny scenarios just feel like busy work.)

sucks that I don’t have tolerance for the ubisoft open-world style anymore. que será, será. i might consider picking this back up in a few years but for now, I’m good.

this is the game equivalent of soup that your folks make you when you’re sick. (i wasn’t sick, but it was a bad day)

chill folk ost, gorgeous visuals, cute writing. i beat it in an hour, but it was well spent. i’ll definitely run this back soon

honestly? pretty sick. I don’t have that much experience with pure VNs like this, so I’m surprised at how much I enjoyed this. good art, good writing. for the price (free) it’s fucking worth

cute and wacky lil game, just wish there was more to do.

a well written game about dealing with trauma, social pressure, and trust. great music, cute character design, engaging combat. the only reason my rating is four and a half stars and not five is that I think some character arcs could’ve used a bit more time in the oven, but they weren’t too rushed. well worth your time and money! so excited to replay this in the future

there’s so much to love about this game writing wise, but god this combat system is so hard to parse, filled with Game Jargon. just call the soul gauge a stamina bar please

and no, throwing text boxes at me after every battle for six hours does not help

the idea of this was cool? the character design is neat and I enjoyed some of the soundtrack. everything else isn't great.

- combat is very whatever. most of the difficulty comes from fights where the game just dumps a bunch of enemies on you.
- level gating feels very artificial. one level below, you get stomped. one level above, it's a shooting gallery.
- world design is bland, at least within the ten hours I put into this.
- the writing... exists.

second verse, somewhat better than the first.

guns feel impactful, environment design is actually interesting this time around, level gating is a bit more natural, and the main plot is actually somewhat engaging. however, the dialogue is written exclusively for 14 year olds in 2012, and my complaints about BL1 combat remain. couldn't muster up the energy to continue, but I definitely enjoyed it quite a bit more.

unnerving and tragic. what's left in the air makes it worse (in a good? way.) just wished it had a bit more time to explore a bit further but hey, that's why the sequel exists. (note: haven't played it yet)

I'm sorry but I don't understand the appeal of this at all. I won't go so far as to call this game design cynical but man does it ever feel that way

what a blast this is to play. one moment you're flinging yourself around in the air cracking jokes, the next the group call goes silent as you try to inch your way out of the corner. making a fighting game turn based is so sick

the only issue I had when I played was that the ui is a little too cluttered for the screen on my steam deck. something else is stopping me from giving it a full fat five stars but I'm trying to get my thoughts out on my backlog and I haven't played this game in a bit. still, it's very much worth a shot.

bathed in extreme nihilism, notch states that life is meaningless and you live, struggle, die, and are then forgotten. besides the fact that I disagree with this point of view, this says nothing new beyond the "deep" observations you heard in middle school when other kids were putting on a facade of worldliness.

the only thing this has going for it is that the presentation is novel, at least for the first minute or so. I wouldn't be surprised if I played any twine games in the future that did this but better

well.

i wanted to play it raw, no cheats (well, mostly), as it was on launch. i definitely got that experience: lost all my materia in Wutai at level 20, two shot by Rapps. not in the mood to grind up to level 45 without my materia, and tbqh this killed the whole experience for me. also fuck cid

gorgeous game, great music. visuals sometimes detract from gameplay (forest dub was a bit rough) but all in all great time. would dive in and do all the bonus stuff but i got too much on my plate. must play imho
