doom + heretic WAD marathon
i hope i don't drop this too soon

this is my planned WAD marathon that i'll do until i get tired of playing Doom. i regularly replay both Doom 1 and 2 but for some reason never delved that deep into other custom mapsets and megawads, which i feel is a huge missed opportunity for me since i love trying out new stuff and the Doom 2 enemy and weapon roster. in this list i tried striking a balance between old classics, newer experiments, and oddities i'm interested in in order to forge my own panorama of the scene. i'm still learning about other megawads through DoomWiki and MtPain27's Dean of Doom video series, and those help me choose some more WADs to try out as well.
i'm not that great at Doom, so i'm not pistol-starting on most of these (with an exception made on the very short packs such as Orange is True Love), but i'm playing on Ultraviolence on most besides the Ribbicks' catalog where he cautions against playing that difficulty for a first playthrough. OITL was beaten on UV though because i hadn't seen that warning yet. i'm also doing as much secret hunting as i can and trying to go for 100% kills most of the time. the exception lies in some of those more absurd slaughter maps like Scythe's map 30 where i just leave a few hundred alive. i'm enjoying slaughter maps for now but damn i think i'd be a little sour on them if i went for 100% kills...
thoughts after 10 WADs: still really enjoying myself! tried a few more experimental WADs like GOODWAD and A.L.T for a few levels but i'm having trouble adapting to their unorthodox ways... will prolly play some more straightforward maps before jumping into those again.
thoughts after 20 WADs: god i still have stamina. playing many hardcore megawads will prolly tire me (and i wanna go for at least 40 WADs) so i'll focus on shorter ones before going back to megawads. i feel like the more i learn, the more there is to learn.
plan to add to IGDB later (so not included on the list yet)
- The All-Ghosts Forest
- Herian
- Herian2
- Greenian
