if i wanted to piss people off i would say that this is the best game nintendo has ever made, not just because it’s been reliably so much fun with so many different groups over the years, but because the quality of life features are uncharacteristically strong, leaves me wanting for nothing. but i won’t say that because i want people to like me.

gods gift to podcast gaming, played on steam deck while listening to hollywood handbook and had the greatest time. gorgeous collectathon with some nice room for creativity on your car design and how you carve through the world. my gold standard for an hour in bed a night, only dragged down by some boring objectives and the combat getting dry once you’re max level (hahahahahaha). want to find more like it for my ‘deck.

i truly never knew what was coming next and i can’t say that about many AAA story games. thoughtful, expansive and just funny. gorgeous environments and animations. combat didn’t outstay its welcome. not perfect but better than nearly all of its contemporaries.

the style is cool and all but i have literally done all of these puzzles before. it’s an understatement to say the puzzle design is derivative. i have literally completed all of these puzzles in other games. because the box is shaped like a cool creature doesn’t make it not a box pushing puzzle. and obviously the bosses i’ve done hundreds of times.

yeah probly not going back to this one. want to root for any AAA stealth focused thing but it just doesn’t get why stealth is interesting or cool. enemy placements are brain dead simple with 0 clever ways through them, just stab stab stab. basically no consequences for getting spotted and i don’t want there to be more consequences because the combat is horrendous. pretty and liked the environments but it’s a shame they never got the climbing to feel good in the one franchise based around climbing. always jumping on/off random shit. definitely appreciate the back to basics approach to gear, but then again i didn’t find anything cool for the last 75% of what i played. damn i keep trying to compliment this and then remembering something else about it that sucks so i’m just gonna stop.

this game has blown me away, so many fun systemic answers to every fun systemic problem. an immersive sim where you control three characters at once in a synchronized ballet, distracting/killing/body disposing/maneuvering/outsmarting interesting enemies with cool unique heroes. one character is just hitman from hitman and it’s somehow barely in the top three coolest ability sets. a modern stealth classic, reminds me why i love the genre.

think i’ve lost interest until the mod scene truly pops off. i had a good time with this, really appreciated the density of quests and some solid world building. every gameplay system is weak but the sheer amount of them makes the experience solid, i always really like the feeling that im cutting through a tiny personalized portion of a massive thing.

all the sports feel so good, and the ones they’ve added post launch (BMX and skateboarding) have exceeded my expectations in how unique of a feel they have within the control scheme of the game. high skill ceiling and huge variety of activities, plus tons of cosmetics to grind for and make outfits out of which is a completely lost art in today’s AAAs. will die slept on.

kind of a simpler picross, had a torrid love affair with it. really smooth little puzzler, iphone controls can be hard to make precise but it feels like stitch knows what you’re trying to do and helps you do it. really well made, easy to lose hours in.

totally decent podcast game, basically an idler with a little more freeform decision making. really enjoyed the sprite art, made for good spaces to hang out in. had a solid 8 hours with it but once it started getting a little too grindy i tapped out. whoa fighting match humor, tapped out, wow i didn’t even notice that. that’s awesome

this is a delightful game. so many arcade minigames, including plenty with surprising depth, was easy to chase my bliss and just do what sounded fun each day. expanding your arcade is a good satisfying long term project, narrative isn’t gonna win any awards but there’s more to it than i expected, it definitely surprised and moved me at times.

2023

easily one of my favorites of the year. awesome flow state, learning to backflip out of a bird possession and land perfectly on top of a tree is so satisfying and endlessly chill with a bit of weed and a custom playlist. a collectathon that’s more than just a collectathon, each run for a map blip feels like a little self driven adventure.

loved matching outfits to my goals, diving suits and cave exploration beiges. special one here.

i miss this game every day. nothing like it.

perfect blend of satisfying card counters+combos with exhilarating gunfights. really wish more people were playing it, i don’t know why i’m the only fucking bitch on earth who likes fun multiplayers.

the world building in this is a 20/10 and that elevates it beyond the imperfections, i’ve never read so many collectible notes and audio logs in a game. combat moves are satisfying and flashy but dying just plain never felt like my fault, and loads/run backs were too long. i eventually checked the Immortal box in the settings and never came close to regretting it. i could still see the health bar drop to zero and every time it happened i said yeah that would’ve been a stupid moment to die. really was annoyed the elements i was loving kept getting interrupted by combat because of it’s a video game, not because it was an impactful or special sequence in any way. just added filler hours. damn that’s probably what all my reviews are gonna be like on here huh.
