definitely wasn’t expecting to beat this in a day, but i gotta say, its really fun
ive often said that Pikmin 1 would be the best Pikmin game if it had the controls of 2. and while they havent 100% done that here, goddamn does this feel GOOD. so much more responsive than either the GameCube or Wii version. easily the definitive edition of this game and its by a LOT

fucking hell
okay so, i have a lot to say about this game, so thisll be a long one. brace yourself. graphically i absolutely love this game. it reminds me of Dreamcast/Gamecube games made by Sega. strong Sonic and Billy Hatcher vibes specifically. its incredibly charming, and that makes sense when you learn that quite a few of Sonic Team worked on this, with Naoto Ohshima being the main character designer for the game. and for that same reason, all of the songs are bangers
everything about the game was fine, dare i even say enjoyable all the way up to World 6. some of the bosses were a little frustrating and some of the "puzzles" felt poorly put together. but for the most part, the game is enjoyable
then you enter World 7, and everything takes a turn for the worse. the level design because immensely frustrating, enemies are invincible for way longer than they should be, and the boss fight in World 7 can actually prevent you from finishing if the platforms are destroyed in the wrong order. 7-2 specifically is Hell Frozen Over
then you enter World 8, and nothing improves. the levels feel like gauntlets of death. spikes, saw blades, gears you can clip through, and its all topped off with a Record puzzle that you arent able to complete if you dont have a record, requiring you to do the entire level over again
and the final boss is okay, definitely not the worst boss ever
there are so many problems with the game however, even ignoring the final two worlds. i will now list them
- you have to rebuy sweepers youve already purchased if you buy a second one
- the whole "match three crystals" mechanic makes no sense and only adds tedium and frustration
- Blinx moves way too slow
- the aiming is very inconsistent
- the backflip move that Blinx can do was only a hinderance and idk how many times it killed me
- i ran out of garbage to sweep multiple times, requiring i restart the level
everything about this game feels like someone thought it up and said "hey wouldn't it be cool if you could [insert anything here]?" "yeah! that would be cool!" and then there was no further discussion to see if itd actually work
its not the worst game ive ever played but its very bad, and it makes me sad because Blinx's design is awesome and deserves to have a good game tied to it

i actually really enjoyed it. its repetitive and simple and the final boss is kinda frustrating and tedious, but i have a strange love for simple, early 3D platformers like this. and its gorgeous too. im taking the one star off because 1) the music isnt really good at all and 2) it runs very poorly in handheld mode, which is how i played most of it
