Pokemon Games Ranked

Had a tough time deciding on if this should just be mainline or not as a lot of the spinoffs don't play like them. Legends Arceus is classified as a mainline game by Gamefreak. The remakes of the games tend to either change enough or add enough new content to be able to be listed as their own separate entries. For the purpose of clutter, only one version per new release is accounted for. So for Gen 3 you'd see only Emerald and FireRed instead of R/S/E and FRLG. Granted, after gen 4 I stopped playing both versions of the games so this doesn't really matter for half the list

Don't lie though, most of us got this game for the manaphy egg

I just did not care for its dungeon crawling and the story/character didn't do enough heavy lifting. Also not being able to evolve until post game sucks

I flushed this game so I don't know if it should even be here tbh. I liked its art.

Usually an IP I like can get me through a strategy game (such as Digimon Survive and SRW) since I tend to hate their gameplay but it didn't work here.

Maybe I'll return to it one day if someone can convince me enough.

@joshiffy

My pokemon opinions are definitely some of my "hottest". No one has to agree, I've taken my gen 5 lumps since their release.

@stovetop Gen 5 are fun but not my favs, my main issue with main series games has been Gen 2 and their remakes. If I were to say that out loud at any meet up I'd be shot on the spot though. I do really like Johto and the Pokemon introduced but that's part of the issue. SO MANY Gen 2 Pokemon are locked out of the base game. My favourite Pokemon Misdreavus is post game for some reason.

My head theory is GameFreak wanted the Gen 2 mons to be rarer than the Gen 1 mons so it made sense as to why Houndour for example isn't in Kanto. But then... you literally go to Kanto in GSC!

Of course I'm not bashing your opinion, I just wanted to discuss a bit. Like I said I still like them I just had a lot of issues with them. HGSS following mechanic was one of the best additions ever!

@joshiffy
The gen 2 games have their problems, I will not deny that. The level cap is screwed beyond belief, and yes in the original releases 80% of the worthwhile pokemon are locked to post game. MY favorite pokemon Tyranitar is one of those casualties on top of needed an immense grind in a game with its notoriously low levels and then a level 70-80 superboss.

At best HGSS fixed SOME of the pokemon population issues, with that new safari zone but for whatever reason stuff like Houndour (another of my favorites) is still Kanto or post game locked even with it. The reason why I still have them placed so high is because I still find the Kanto post game to be one of the best post games for a pokemon, as I've always found them lacking otherwise, and it has the (second) most pokemon I like in it and pokemon roster is something that effects my ranking since they are the main gameplay mechanic. Scarlet and Violet actually usurped gen 2 in terms of pokemon criteria but their performance is hat stops me from placing them any higher, despite liking a lot of its other aspects alongside it.

I'm in full agreement with that, I really really enjoyed S/V and I just wish that the performance was much better there. Also yes, the Safari Zone in HGSS was one of the best ways they could have fixed the pokemon problem with Gen 2 and I really enjoyed it. Kanto is amazing post game but at the same time I wish there was more to it, or at least I wish it felt a bit more linear? I always found myself forgetting about the Rival fight in Kanto and doing it much later by accident. It's still probably one of the best post games there is though.
Wow lol dang
