Major Upsides in Games I Don't Like
Nothing here!
20 Games
The fight between Yuri and Flynn and the final boss are genuinely some of the best fights in the series.
Zaveid's theme and the game's opening, Kaze no Uta, are absolute bangers.
Shadow the Hedgehog has so many genuinely raw moments it's insane.
For as bad as this game gets, I do manage to get some legitimate fun out of this game due to having fairly decent level design most of the time. Also the soundtrack is one of the franchise's best.
The actual combat is quite decent. It's just majorly bogged down by terrible boss and enemy design.
Bruce Campbell. That's it.
For as upset as this game makes me, I will defend its soundtrack forever because it's one of my favorite soundtracks ever. Also the main bros aren't bad (for the most part).
Crisis Core is an incredibly iffy game, both in its writing and its gameplay, but the ending is such a beautiful sendoff for Zack's character.
If you've known me long enough, you know I don't have the fondest opinion of Ape Escape 2, but for what it's worth, the core gameplay isn't bad. It's everything else that killed it for me.
It probably has some of the best character writing in the series and the most emotionally charged final boss that lands extremely well in a thematic sense.
Blank Points is one of the best scenes in the series.
Danganronpa V3 pisses me off to no end, but a fair amount of what the game does is really good. Kaede is the most likeable protagonist in the series, the ending is great even if it's bogged down by several internal factors, and I actually like the postgame. Oh yeah, and the soundtrack is really good.
Even if I don't think the OST is as good as all the others, I still like a lot of the tracks.
The Nemesis System is really quite neat, conceptually. It's just a shame it's introduced in a game with a combat system that feels so limiting to play around with, especially when restrictions get so heinous, fights end up becoming mindless button mashing wars of attrition.
The Costume Transformation mechanic can lead to interesting gameplay if utilized properly, and in a sense reminds me of Ape Escape 3's Morph Gear. Too bad Balan is the perfect antithesis of everything that made that game great.
This game was my gateway to Ape Escape. I am dead serious.
Look, man, being able to fling cars and people off of buildings does things to my monkey brain.
The actual gameplay is actually a lot of fun, crappy level scaling aside.
This game is just oozing with personality and charm.
NMH2 has one of the best soundtracks ever, it's unreal.
