i did not think i'd care so much about a world which is basically all the most embarrassing parts of fantasy combined with all the most embarrassing parts of cyberpunk but somehow this game is so well-written that i've decided to become an elf

i need to revisit this but i remember it being incredibly striking, a really successful piece about dread and coded abuse / violence, all told through cosmic horror and that creepypasta feeling which is a direct line to shit i like.

hate that this became a culture war flashpoint bc it means i feel compelled to defend it even tho it's actually honestly not very good, not super well-written, not that incisive, just a bit empty and shallow

remember all the stupid fucking discourse around this game when it came out? anyway this is another one of those games which makes me want to make games. i know its not everyones Cup Of Tea but it is precisely mine and i adore it and the way it hurt my heart was very welcome.

i will never stop giving robert yang games 5* reviews, this i promise.

honestly tho 'sex game made partly to fuck with Twitch's community guidelines that turns into moving and sad exploration of institutional homophobia' is really something so special it demands 5 stars. what an amazing piece of work!!!

they must have smoked beer or done weed to come up with THIS

one of the most influential games of all time

A deep and moving exploration of the complex sociocultural factors leading to hahaha just kidding pew pew eat shit loser

the biggest tragedy of this game is it killed the "is this frog fractions 2" joke. the second biggest tragedy is it's just not that good. :(

pretty cool game about how quickly you can get banned from a discord for doing MS Paint drawings of a pitching machine saying "i want to get eaten by a giant squid". honestly this is ostensibly a community game about screaming at a random number generator, but really it's a CIA experiment in creating the most out-of-pocket userbase ever seen in videogames.

anyway crabs rule, luis acevedo must be incinerated, the garages are a bunch of babies who can't hit the ball, and tillman henderson is a war criminal

edit: i have just been informed that they renamed a player called Groverhaus because the userbase complained it was problematic and have lowered my rating accordingly. i would say i'm doing it in solidarity with groverhaus but that piece of shit is the polar opposite of solid lol

i liked this a lot at the time but the pseudo-soviet aesthetic irritates me a lot. reminds me of when people post pictures of american urban desolation with captions saying "this looks like a run-down soviet state!" and its like no dude. this is just capitalism. capitalism does this.

honestly i really loved looking at the architecture more than anything else. extremely cool apartment block.

Devotion is iterative horror, and i don't mean that necessarily as an insult; you can feel its influences strongly throughout (PT, silent hill, dark water, RE7) but it has a real character of its own. solid jumpscares, simple puzzles (altho i got stuck on one bit when you had to backtrack), good dreamy nightmarescapes. some real fun visual tricks and unexpected turns keep it interesting. cool game.

2008

this game achieves everything it set out to do and it does so while being a lot of fun. i also remember playing very early versions of this at trade shows for a couple years before it eventually got a full release, and just being so excited about it. i know ive criticised other games by saying "it's fun with friends, but what isn't", but this is a game which really sets out to be fun with friends, so criticising it for not being anything more is like howling at breakfast for not being dinner.
