A funny, surprisingly tense game that’s become a favorite among my friends. While the game is pretty straightforward, the number of creatures you encounter keeps the game exciting. It becomes even better with mods. Definitely worth trying, but only with friends.

An unbelievable Metroid-vania full of iconic locations, gorgeous music, and wonderful visuals. One of the best in its genre. Silksong can’t come out soon enough.

2016

An excellent entry in the Doom series. The atmosphere of this game is unrivaled, it’s a very special game. The gameplay is tight and responsive. The story is simple but effective. And the music is some of the best to ever be recorded for a FPS game. My only real issue with the game is the multiplayer component. If you’re a completionist, the multiplayer for this game is dead. There of course are achievements tied to this dead multiplayer mode. Aside from this minor complaint, Doom 2016 is excellent.

One of the best open world games I’ve ever played. Exploration in this game is second to none. The combat and movement options are more fluid than ever. The world and lore are fascinating, every new area and character you interact with is memorable. The overall presentation is gorgeous, high-fantasy horror is an amazing vibe. The cherry on top of this game is the fantastic boss fights and legacy dungeons. A must play game, may even be a game of the decade contender.

Tears of the Kingdom is in my opinion an improvement upon Breath of the Wild in almost every way. Better story, dungeons, bosses, and even exploration. I’m still not the biggest fan of the new Zelda formula, but this game makes it more appealing for me. The weapon degradation is still bad, horses still feel pointless, and enemy variety could still be better. But overall, I really enjoyed Tears of the Kingdom.

I have a lot of complicated feelings about this game. On one hand, it’s a breath of fresh air for the Zelda franchise. But on the other hand, I do miss the formula that the other games had. I think exploration is fantastic, but I feel that the combat, dungeons, and story are some of the weakest the series has to offer. The final boss is one of the worst in the franchise, with a story literally stuck in the past. It’s hard to get invested in a story where most of the cast is dead and all the tension and action happened 100 years ago. The dungeons had potential to be cool, but their similar aesthetics grow old fast and wound up being more frustrating than fun. I know it sounds like I’m ragging on this game, but I still enjoy it for what it is, even if it isn’t my favorite 3D Zelda title.

As someone who never played the original, I went into this with high expectations. I came out loving it. The vibes of this game are immaculate, it’s so funny and charming. The music, graphics, and simple gameplay make this game a timeless banger.

2018

Amazing art direction, a fun gameplay loop, and stylish soundtrack are just a few reasons to love this game. One of 2020’s best games.

A great sequel held back by a few missteps. Mainly the story and characterization were a little off for me. The gameplay is still great, but I still prefer the first game.
