Yuri is so hot I love him so much

static characters makes this the only challenging three houses experience apart from earlygame maddening

Great new characters but ultimately unnecessary DLC that feels like unfinished cut content from the main game.

Every school setting needs a group of goth kids

Cranks up Three Houses' map design issues to 11 but gives us Yuri and I want to suck his dick.

Oh it's fire emblem three houses alright

decent enough of a short campaign but imo I don’t necessarily think it’s worth buying if you aren’t interested in using the ashen wolves in the main game.

I however really liked all of the Ashen Wolves both personality and gameplay wise so it was fun to get to use them throughout my second playthrough. Also Yuri is hot so it’s kino for that alone.

In a word: underwhelming. $25 for a predictable story that takes under 10 hours to finish, and the final boss only took me 5 turns to beat. Character interaction is kept to a minimum, and assuming you've played through the main story on every route, you're expected to slog through yet another iteration of White Clouds to actually get to know the new characters. Don't get me wrong, the Ashen Wolves are all pretty solid, but not enough for me to play Three Houses a fourth time. As such, Cindered Shadows comes off as a prolonged, interactive ad more than an actual new campaign. And the final nail in the coffin: the villain's tragic backstory had me cackling. The fact that it's actually kind of challenging when compared to the main game (final boss excluded) and Balthus' tiddies are the only good things to come from this.

Spoiler for anyone who cares below:

He gets cucked by Jeralt.

Good
- More battles and characters!
- Interesting but slightly odd extension to the background.

Meh
- Performance could be better.
- Animation gets a little stale after awhile (skip animation).

Cindered Shadows is an additional campaign for Three Houses, focusing on a hidden place called The Abyss and its inhabitants. In terms of gameplay it's much more straightforward than the main game, since it has a small fixed roster of characters and it removes all the teaching mechanics. Hence, you only really focus on levelling and battling, which is a nice change of pace from the busywork in a regular Three Houses playthrough.

Map design in this campaign is interesting, featuring some chapters with interesting objectives but also a few tedious ones. In general, though, I'd say it's mostly fun and worth a purchase.

infinitely better in every way to the base game of three houses. not worth playing the rest of the game for though in my opinion and some of the maps still arent that good

While I wish that the side story was a tad bit longer, the restricted classes and limited gold added an extra element of strategy to the general gameplay. The new characters included, the Ashen Wolves, are charming enough characters, with Hapi and Balthus being my favorite of the bunch. Prior to playing, I only knew about the Aelfric twist, which is honestly so telegraphed that I didn't mind going in with that knowledge. The new maps offer a decent amount of challenge, especially with the locked character roster and limited resources. However, I do not believe that this is worth $25. For what it is, it's not even worth $20. I recently managed to snag it for $15, and I do think that this is a fair enough price point for the overall package, which at the end of the day, is a decent enough addition to the base game.

Cindered Shadows adds four new units, a couple of new classes, an additional side story and an underground location for the base game.

The side story is surprisingly difficult and the maps can feel overwhelming at times, especially since you're given units with predetermined stats and classes for the course of the story, so you can't cheese your way out of it.

The new location, the Abyss, is an underground city which adds practical new uses for your renown from the base game, like increasing support levels between units or exchanging various items for renown (very useful for NG+).

As a reward for beating the new maps you unlock the Ashen Wolves one by one for the base game and their respective classes.

Now to the actual characters; in my opinion Hapi and Balthus are underwhelming and are easily powercrept by other units from the base game, Yuri is very situational and only Constance is the one unit to really shine because of her Dark Flier class, which is very handy under many circumstances.

Overall, Cindered Shadows is worth a play if you're planning to use the Ashen Wolves in the main game, but I wouldn't recommend getting it just for the side story alone.

I wanted to go back to FE3H after dropping it in late 2019, but this DLC stood in my way tempting me with its extra characters, classes, lore, and explorable areas. I mention this because it shaded my experience a bit. I was not in it to savor every challenge and squeeze the last bit of FE3H content like some people, but to unlock all the goodies I could before playing the "real game" again.

That being said, I turned down the difficulty from Hard to Normal after the second battle. Having to redo some of these hour long missions didn't sound like fun.

Things I liked:

All of the Ashen Wolves are really cool. Constance might be my favorite character in the whole game, and I absolutely do not regret playing this DLC first largely because I am really looking forward to recruiting/romancing them in future playthroughs.

The story isn't amazing but it does add a little depth (hehe) to the class and privilege structure of the monastery.

Some things I liked less:

It's a staple of end game tactics games. Waves of enemies as a substitute for difficult enemies or interesting puzzles. Thankfully, this is really only the case for maybe a third of the missions.

Deep-seated factional or blood rivalries (every Ashen Wolf seems to have some proper cause to seek revenge on the upper world) seem to be put aside rather easily. Maybe they'll come up more again in the main campaign but I doubt it.

Why is Yuri all over my girl Byleth out of nowhere. Slow your roll Casanova.

If there's one thing I was expecting from Cindered Shadows, a necrophile priest wasn't one of them. Something something Catholic Church joke

yuri can rob my house if he wants i wouldn't mind

Super fun lil campaign! Totally didn't spend the entire 8 hours of my run starring at Balthus abs x'D

Mediocre DLC, wouldn't really recommend it to anybody.

coco i love you but sorry this is not worth 25 dollars

Is it more tactical than the main game? Technically yes, but unfortunately that's achieved by swamping you in an unbelievable number of enemies. The fights were just plain exhausting.

Hapi and Constance are cute and I like Balthus and Yuri a lot too but idk the story just felt kind of eh. It had an admittedly interesting premise towards the end that lead to a pretty cool finale but the rest of the story just happens and isn't all that interesting outside of the Ashen Wolves. The whole route just kinda exists to exist for DLC. At least you get some busted classes for the main game.

This DLC was a fun time but I'm not sure I see myself really returning to it. I'm glad I went in mostly blind because I was able to experience the characters fresh and think all 4 of the new units are easily the best part of the DLC, what can I say, I like power of friendship type shit. While not every map is necessarily fun, I do think it has some very cool and unique map ideas, easily one of my favorites being Chapter 4, while the group is being chased by a big fuck-off invincible monster and you just need to r u n .

As with The Frozen Wilds and Horizon, this just reminded me how fantastic Three Houses was. Cannot wait to see what’s in store for the franchise!

if yuri has million number of fans i am one of them . if yuri has ten fans i am one of them. if yuri have only one fan and that is me . if yuri has no fans, that means i am no more on the earth . if world against yuri, i am against the world. i love #yuri till my last breath.. .. Die Hard fan of yuri . Hit Like If you Think yuri Best ashen wolf & Smart In the world

I don't know about its quantity being worth the money it's charging--I did wait to buy it on a sale--but its quality is top Fire Emblem experience. Some of the most interesting map designs in the series (omg that chapter 4!!), definitely better than the main game in that regard, and the added classes compliment nicely to the revamped challenge. Also, cutting all the filler of the Monastery and focusing just on the combat was refreshing after 3 playthroughs of Three Houses.
