ABSURDLY nostalgic game for me. Defined my music taste when i was like 10, never managed to clear it on Expert and only skated by on Hard. Coming back to this and destroying it on Expert is as satisfying as it is vaguely introspective on how far I've grown/changed since then.

But omg it's still SO good, amazing setlist to hammer out the tunes of and just listen to. Everything about this aesthetic works, it's totally for rock nerds by rock nerds. I still got a smile on my face seeing their pictures in the credits. On a mechanical level it's greatly mapped too, minus a couple "holy shit really" because hammer-on chords were not a thing here. Or taps. But then again that additional difficulty is crucial for Through the Fire and Flames to make the entirety of my hands agony. I cleared it yes, but at what cost to my soul.

Additional quick notes:
-I like how the drummer still has the dumbest smile lmao it makes my day
-FCPREMIX is the best song ever
-The boss battles are WAY easier coming back to them. They should all follow lou and let the other side go first but even then you can game over lou in two power usages if you're good. This isn't really an issue, i just think it's sick how good i've gotten :3 it's a flex
-it's still a total shame to kid me and now that I can't play the versus songs solo without buying them as dlc (yeesh). I get that is what Clone Hero is for, but wow :/
-The developer videos are like the soul of the bungie vidocs but setting the amp volume to 11 energy. It's great.

this is it folks, the one true rhythm game. GOATed tracklist, lots of fun customization options, hammer ons and pull offs hit like a dream, best wireless controller, i mean what else could you want!
this was also my first exposure to slayer, and even during a time where thrash metal was my go-to i still knew that slayer fucking sucks lol

Jr High schools everywhere assembled their social castes according to who could play Through The Fire And Flames the best but in retrospect being able to challenge Satan to The Devil Went Down To Georgia was a mythological moment.

one of the most clever concepts for a rhythm game, and it's better than its predecessors in every way. kinda crazy how influential this game was to so many peoples' music tastes

A lot of fun, with cool characters, customizations & of course iconic rock music!

It's definitely under the category of being nostalgic for me. Do you know how late my fam & I stayed up playing this game?!

I've had the Brazilian mod CD on PS2 an wow that's an work of art.

A setlist do jogo é marcante, pra dizer o mínimo.
⁕ "Story of My Life - Social Distortion"
⁕ "School's Out - Alice Cooper"
⁕ "Bulls on Parade - Rage Against The Machine"
⁕ "When You Were Young - The Killers"
⁕ "The Seeker - The Who"
⁕ "Paint It Black - The Rolling Stones"
⁕ "My Name Is Jonas - Weezer"
⁕ "Even Flow - Pearl Jam"
⁕ "Holiday in Cambodia - The Dead Kennedys"
⁕ "Rock You Like A Hurricane - The Scorpions"
⁕ "Welcome to the Jungle - Guns 'N Roses"
⁕ "Black Magic Woman - Santana"
⁕ "Before I Forget - Slipknot" (Pensa numa música pra dar nó nas mãos)
⁕ "Cliffs of Dover - Eric Johnson"
⁕ "One - Metallica"
⁕ "Monsters - Matchbook Romance" [Co-op apenas]
⁕ "Helicopter - Bloc Party" [Co-op apenas]
⁕ "Through the Fire and Flames - Dragonforce" (nunca fiquei tão feliz de poder errar todas as notas durante os créditos 😅)

⁕ "Closer - Lacuna Coil"
⁕ "F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X. - The Fall of Troy"
⁕ "Impulse - An Endless Sporadic" (❤)
⁕ "Mauvais Garçon - Nast"
⁕ "Radio Song - Superbus"
⁕ "Ruby - The Kaiser Chiefs"
⁕ "She Bangs the Drums - The Stone Roses"

This game changed who I was as a person.

Really good game, I'm having fun with it a lot especially playing with my brother!

I had an obvious crush on Casey Lynch and I still thought I was straight

Oof... why not use a REAL guitar!! Or one that's like it... Program it right!! Help us to play a REAL guitar properly!!! Peace~ ✌️

EVEN FLOOOOOW
THOUGHTS ARRRIIIVE LIKE BUUUTTEEERFLIIIEEEESS

So far AWAAAAAAY we wait for the DA-AY-yeaaaaaah, for the LIVES all so WASted and GOOOOOOONE
We feel the PAAAAIN of a lifetime lost IN a thousand days
Through the fire and the flames we carry OOOOOOOOOOOOOON

the song list is amazing, the engine is peak, and the story is beautifully stupid and charming

This game was the reason I stopped being bullied in high school. It was accessible to kids who weren't nerds, and my years of experience in Pokémon Stadium/Mario Party mini games that relied on reaction clicking and rhythm had prepared me for this day. Also created a bond between me and my brother from our love of rock and metal that continued into Brütal Legend.

As perfect as I remembered it to be, but damn One got me hard

Pretty insane that this has factually no bad songs

beat this game for the first time so i could tell 9 year old me who couldnt even beat the first song to kiss my ass

This was my introduction to music instrument games. For whatever reason, I mostly ignored the first two entries but got hooked to this game every since I tried a booth demo at a Toys R Us store. I purchased the game shortly thereafter and this became a staple party game during my college days so goes without saying that I have a lot of fun and crazy memories with the game.

I'm a big rock fan so the soundtrack was excellent and to my liking. Visuals were not the greatest in the Wii version but they were adequate and ultimately all that mattered were looking at the notes in the middle of the screen. Guitar controller was a bit cumbersome for the Wii version since you had to attach the wiimote to the guitar controller in order to use some of the features such as tilting the controller to activate the guitar power.

Unfortunately, I was not able to beat Through the Fire and the Flames in Expert, that would have been a really cool gaming 'career' goal to achieve (actually I don't think I was able to complete the song in Hard either haha).

Note: This review was written shortly after release in 2007. I just copied it here from the original place where I reviewed it

…For 99.9% of the people, GHIII is the same as GHII yet we get online play (which is just as awesome as you’d think) and tons more songs yet it is probably the most disappointing GH when it comes to cover songs. You get songs like One, Number of the Beast, School’s Out, Cult of Personality and more, but they aren’t show stoppers like in GHI and II. GHIII, however, has the best song list for more indie music and lesser-known covers like My Curse, Stricken, Before I Forget, Through Fire and Flames, Prayer for the Refugee and more. This is also the first GH to be IMPOSSIBLE TO BEAT! While the game is hard enough on Hard good luck beating the last few sets on Expert. It’ll take you months to master these songs if at all. Through Fire in Flames is probably impossible for most GH buffs on Medium or Hard. Luckily, after hours upon hours of practice, I BARELY scraped through the song on Expert.

Some new features are the updated graphics…they’re finally next-gen! The game has great physics with bouncing and swaying clothes, high-def textures so denim looks like denim. The characters also get more of a sexual upgrade (thanks, Neversoft!) Judy Nails is as hot as ever yet they left out Pandora and added a preppy Japanese chick. There are a few great new characters like Slash, Tom Morello, and Zeus the Rock God. Speaking of Slash and Tom you now get boss battles. These don’t play out like you think. The first few are easy, but the last one, playing Devil Went Down to Georgia, is just pure luck. You have to hit sequences like when you get Star Power but instead, you get weapons. These include breaking your string (you have to press a button really fast), raising the difficulty, blowing your amp (all the buttons flash on screen) or doubling the notes. This is fun, but some may NEVER beat it on Expert.

Minus all of that you can now play a Co-Op Career which is really fun as well and is pretty self-explanatory. Overall GHIII is more for indie and lesser known band fans. If you want famous songs then you’re out of luck. Thankfully the game has lots of downloadable songs now. I just wish the GHII songs were compatible.

BEST GH
BEST SONG LIST
BASED BOSS FIGHTS
HAS NOT BEEN TOPPED SINCE IT CAME OUT AND WAS THE LAST GOOD ONE

cult of personality, bulls on parade, before i forget, vs. slash, holiday in cambodia, raining blood, welcome to the jungle, impulse. godlike song choices. devs were kings for getting those licenses + partnerships.
