Honestly, a super awesome beginner-friendly way to learning Riichi Mahjong. I wanted to learn how to play because I've been checking out the original famicom releases from 1983 and a mahjong game is one of them! I didn't want the cartridge just gathering dust on my shelf, so I asked a friend to help me learn how to play, and voila, wouldn't you know, he sends me to Mahjong Soul, and I couldn't be happier! Because of this website, I officially understand how to (shittily) play a game of Riichi Mahjong!
I'm someone who is super not into gacha or throwing anime girls into stuff randomly either, so the idea of Mahjong Soul initially didn't interest me too much, but honestly the way its all handled is marvelous! I truly expected it to be more intrusive with its gacha aspect, but ignoring it doesn't hinder the game at all for me. The girls can be a little annoying if I'm being super picky (nyaa~), but honestly they're fine characters, and they don't demand much attention. All together, Mahjong Soul is a really great way to learn, practice, and battle your friends in Riichi Mahjong!! It helps me understand the rules and what I can/can't do amazingly! Now I can't wait to kick some 1983 Famicom AI ass.

If you're looking for a quality and fully-functional mahjong client with slick presentation and a healthy dose of cute anime girls, there's none better. I cut my teeth learning to play mahjong in Clubhouse Games 51, but after struggling to maintain a good connection with friends to play online with, stumbled upon this instead, and have stuck with it ever since. MajSoul has some decent tutorials to teach you the game, but honestly the best way to go about it is to learn some basic hands and just jump in and play, ideally with friends.
The only major downside is that the gacha mechanics are absolutely terrible, so if you're looking to snag a particular waifu, you WILL have to shell out money here; there's no efficient way to grind for what you need. Even then, the odds are so bad that you're probably not going to get what you want despite spending the cash for it. It's rough, but considering the monetization of this game is entirely cosmetic and you otherwise have an incredible free mahjong client to enjoy, the trade-off had to come somewhere. I wish this aspect of the game were better, but I'm glad there's a place online I can just go play mahjong with friends and have a great time.

Pretty good intro into mahjong.
My only gripes with it are just nitpicks, like the overly moe art style and the fact you can't play in portrait mode, but otherwise it's easy to jump into and fun to play.
No comment on the gacha stuff, I'm not touching that unless they rerun the Akagi collab.
Update on the gacha: Tried for the Code Geass collab. I hate this gacha system.

East 1 Repeat 3. audience stares at me in anticipation. the player to my west has shot himself in the head. player to my north disconnected to have sex. player to my east has an emoji macro off cooldown. he discards a 7-pin.

my greasy hands flip my tiles down to reveal my single wait riichi bet, value of 1 han. pants full of shit from anxiety, I stand up and face the crowd.

I played this game every day for at least a year before I started playing my switch or socialising instead.
Characters, accessories and settings are cute. Gacha element is entirely cosmetic, game plays exactly as it should and regular events and updates with different game modes helps stop it going stale

Some might go full reddit mode and get mad at the gacha mechanics but this game is how all online matchmaking games should work.
- There is no chat, only emotes.
- You choose the lobbies based on your skill level/comfort.
- Cool graphics, but not overbearing.
- Decent amount of in-game references.
- Akagi
The only issue with this is some of my friends refuse to play it bc it makes their fans spin.
