... I made... a severe and continuous lapse in my judgement...

I've played quite a ton of Battle Royales, especially back when the genre exploded in popularity in 2017 with Fortnite (holy shit it's been almost six years already?) 'cause as much as it's overexploited now-a-days and has spawned some terrible monetization practices, at it's core I found it to be an incredibly fun idea and can result in so many different outcomes each time you play. However, I have founde none that grabbed my attention for more than a couple of hours, Fall Guys did grab my attention when it became free-to-play (I won my first game ever the first time I played and I still don't know how) but even that didn't last much. None Battle Royale has managed to grab me and play it rigorously for a long period of time... except for one...

Is Tetris 99 the best Battle Royale out there? Probably not.

Is it the most original? It's stil Tetris, but with 99 other people so it's not that ground-breaking.

Is it the best Tetris game? Heeeeeeeell no, absolutely not!

So... why then have I played this game for almost one-hundred hours when it doesn't really shine in anything?... I have no fucking clue.

I haven't play it for some months now, but when it first released I was OBSSESED, mainly because... it just was fun. It was exciting to jump into a game and compete with other people, it was a good feeling that I was becoming better and better at the game, and the main theme and all the other music and visual buckgrounds they added later were FIRE.

It was not a case that the game was addicting (even tho it does have a certain component that can make it feel that way, but in my case it didn't become an obssesion) but rather it's just that it is really fun. It's far from perfect, fair and original, but godDAMN is it fun. I mean, at the end of the day it's still Tetris, and Tetris it's always a good time, so there was not a lot of room for messing it up.

Perhaps I should have spend the time playing other games, but you know what? I had fun, and I think that's something that has a lot of value. I don't think I'll play it again in the near future, but I have really fond memories of it... except the times I lost that times the game uuuuuuh the game lagged I SWEAR I DON'T SU-

You think you're pretty good at Tetris. And then Tetris 99 happens.

I have played over 100 matches. I have finished between 2nd and 5th place about 20 times. I have only won once.

I'm counting that as beating the game.

I have no idea how to fucking play this

TETRIS 99 is the valedictorian of video games, except he's not his usual fun self; he's after you. And you better start running.

Marking as complete because I finally won/got Tetris Maximus and that was the requirement I set for marking this as “beaten”. I never thought it was going to happen. What a rush.

Will be spending a ton of time still, it's probably my favorite Switch game other than Animal Crossing.

It's free*, it's multiplayer, and it's Tetris. A battle royal Tetris sounds like a joke but works surprisingly well.

I'm 100% awful at this game, but I'm still impressed at how well Tetris translates into the battle royale genre while sticking with the original gameplay. While there isn't as much variety as in other games of its genre like Fortnite due to the sheer simplicity of Tetris, but damn if matches can't get hella intense. Not really the type of game I would willingly grind for hours, but great to pick up for a bit every once in a while, hence why it really thrives being on the Switch.

I mean, it's Tetris, so its automatically good.

Unironically the best battle royale. Interesting mechanics, fun gameplay, actually easy to get into.

This game is deceptively difficult. I was never a great Tetris player, and so adding in other people made it even more challenging. But I loved it. Getting extra trash levels and then sending it back as revenge. It made the fast paced game more thrilling than anxiety inducing. I have never won a round (though I did get 2nd a few times), but I can't find it in myself to be mad about it. Classic game with a great modern twist.

It's Tetris except if you make a single mistake early on, everyone who set their attacks to KO will target you automatically causing you to most likely lose early on. Making a decent run isn't too hard tbf. Cool take.

It has the wrong Tetris controls.

Trying to show the world how great you are at Tetris only to get absolutely stomped by Hoshimachi Suisei

Tetris, but you'll never feel smart again for the rest of your life.

Didn't get the Xenoblade skin I'm mad

A super fun and unique version of tetris. its a bit disappointing that when you purchase the game there is no real single player mode.

I've spent so many hours on this game. Getting first place is incredibly difficult and I got my first win after over 100 games. I do wish it had some sort of guide/instructions because I remember being confused when I first started playing. Like I know how Tetris works but I wasn't familiar with sending trash blocks or the K.O. power meter. I don't even know why this game is so addicting for me but it is.

The sound effect when you are targeted by another player in this game will forever haunt every waking moment I live. This is the single most anxiety-inducing game ever made. It's good.

"Finally, a battle royale for me!"

Anyone else get PlayOnline or Dreamcast early 2000s vibes from this? 99 players and I get to be one of em

Would have been higher if I had ever won

I still haven't gotten first place but I love how it hurts.

Yeah, it’s great, it’s a Tetris battle royale and it works insanely well, but I think a lot of people forget that this game’s unsung strength is how the game fits the Switch so well. It’s a great game to just play one or two rounds of in handheld mode while chilling out. I can’t really say whether or not the DLC content is worth it though when you might as well just buy Tetris Effect Connected or Puyo Puyo Tetris if you really want more Tetris on the switch. Regardless, don’t sleep on this if you have Switch Online - no matter how good or bad you are at Tetris.

Diferente dos outros 99 da big N, esse sim é bom e divertido, realmente vale a pena jogar, é so tetris, mas é divertido dms, o que fizeram aqui foi melhor do que parece
