Essentially Super Mario Kart (SNES), but with better tracks. Good game, good challenge, cool unlockables (look it up after you finish the game)

Mario gets in his kart and drives to the bowling alley for a nice slice of pizza with his friends and nothing about karting happens here.

The 2D Mario Kart's just make me too nauseous to super enjoy them.

It’s okay. It feels like a blend of Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64 and that’s okay? It just doesn’t bring anything new to the table and is extremely bland compared to other MK games. 3/5, 6/10

Volver al 2D después del 64 y el DD es un paso atrás que me impide disfrutar de este juego.

No sé si es mejor que el Tour y me la pela

This thing controls more slippery than a sidewalk in the middle of a snowstorm

I'll admit that some of this can be biased, given that Mario Kart: Super Circuit was my first Mario Kart game. Even with that, though, it's still an entry in the franchise I can regularly return to and have a good time with. Sure, it might be a bit irrelevant given what we have out of Mario Kart today, but it's impressive that they were able to fit something like this on a Game Boy Advance cart.

I like it, frankly probably more than I like Mario Kart 64 in terms of courses and game feel, but at least on Switch online (can't speak for other versions) the lack of a real local multiplayer mode hurts it

still, the same flat design tracks as the super mario kart, it's just not fun for me, although it has some modern improvements over the original

I remember also thinking this game was shit as a child.

Super Circuit is if 64 and Super Mario Kart had a baby.

I played this game a lot when I was younger but I was always disappointed in it from day 1. It was way too hard for me at first, and then when I got good at it it immediately turned boring. I never actually got to try the multiplayer, either, which is extra sad. It at least has a lot of content for what it is, as it introduces the concept of retro tracks to Mario Kart. I'd consider it better and more polished than Super, but not really worth playing nowadays.

Definitely my least favorite Mario Kart game.

It's fun to play. Handling is bad though.

I have no idea why people hate on this game. It's Mario Kart 64 in your pocket and I love it. I have so much nostalgia for it so that could be why I like it, but I still like the way it controls and looks. The music is amazing and it's battle mode is still the best portable Mario Kart battle mode in my opinion. The music is also banging, just a really good game overall. People probably don't like it now because you can play Mario Kart 8 anywhere but I still think it holds a special place.

With the Game Boy Advance came the dream of a portable version of Mario Kart, and this one did not disappoint. Though multiplayer was still a bit rough - requiring a wired adapter - it was a lot of fun and several original tracks really brought new ingredients to the mix. A lesser-loved episode for some reason, but quite good nonetheless.

it has merit but GOD it does not hold up

Underrated af, better than Super Mario Kart in many ways and just more creative.

Un buen juego, considerando su consola, obviamente al compararlo con cualquier otra entrega de la saga pierde mucho.

There’s a few considerations to make when reviewing Super Circuit,

Firstly, where does it slot into the Mario Kart franchise? It is similar to Super Mario Kart, utilising Mode 7 and Super Scaler technology, features 20 tracks (as well as an additional 20 from Super Mario Kart as unlockables - gold cups in 150cc, then race them again and collect 100 coins).

There is also an overall improvement incorporating Mario Kart 64 items and drifting mechanics. And it reaches great heights with vivid sprite work.

However, I have seen the argument that it is not the most innovative Mario Kart title - which might be true at the time of Double Dash, today I feel the titles are more iterative or as with MK8D a foundation to build upon. I felt it improve upon Super Mario Kart in a meaningful way.

Lastly, I look towards the platform. Super Circuit is a top tier Game Boy Advance title and probably the best racer on the system.

My review score indicates where I think the game slots in as a GBA racer title, playability and it’s historic position.

Overall I had blast playing through the initial cups, followed by the SNES tracks. I might have played this initially on an emulator but it was cool revisiting it on the NSO service.

I’m tempted to try and get some people online to do battle and vs. modes. I’ll update this review if I get there.

The vs. mode is a cool addition but not substantially different to the SNES version overall.
