Not the worst game ever but its pretty lame
The visuals look amazing but everything is else is subpar. Bad screen crunch, awful sfx and most of the bosses aren't fun to fight.

I think to fairly judge this game, you have to recognize.

What was the intended audience for this when it released? And the answer is:

Sega kids, who never owned an NES and never played the Mega Man games, but still know who the character is, which, with me playing it in the modern age... That kinda applies to me.

I've never played any of the Mega Man games, so I didn't see repeat robot masters or reused assets from the NES games, all that I saw was: a Really, Really nice looking game gear game!

And, me not being experienced with Mega Man, the game's lower difficulty made it a lot more palatable for me, as well as its shorter length, it was a really fun, bite-sized showcase of what Mega Man is!

I'm sure this game is a lot worse to those who are familiar with the series but, considering that's not the intended audience, it does a really good job of giving new-comers to the series a taste of what it's about, and it honestly makes me excited to give the mainline games a go!

such a nothing game. every single asset is reused, and not very well. at least it’s short.

screen crunch fucking sucks but overall i found this game fun tbh.

ambitious port that falls flat on its face, it's mega man 5 with horrible screen crunch, sped up bosses, cut content and bad ost.
while most mega man world games are pretty eh, they had the right idea of creating new levels specifically for the gameboy.

This was not the worst Megaman game I was expecting. There are problems with this game, but it's not something to freak out over. It's biggest problem is that the classic games are on the Switch and the Steam Deck. So there is almost no point to playing it now

Well, at least they got the physics right.

I think this is probably the least useful weapon set in the entire franchise. Napalm Bomb kills in four shots what the charge shot can do in 1. They weren't that bad in Mega Man 5, what happened here?

After Mega Man II for the Game Boy, I wasn’t expecting another handheld Mega Man game to be this awful.

There isn’t a single reason for this to be played. It only makes sense to exist and can only be thought of being enjoyable if you’re a kid from 1995 who had a Game Gear and wanted a Mega Man game, since this is simply a total conversion of some levels from past Mega Man titles from the NES (mostly from MM5), and because of that, there’s a SEVERE issue of screen crunch here, since these levels weren’t supposed to be played on a screen this tiny. You’ll find yourself facing lots of leaps of faith and off-screen enemies, and this is particularly frustrating when fighting against the bosses.

The level progression is absolutely flawed, the end-game brings back one of the most annoying levels from Mega Man 2 but a hundred times worsened, and the final boss is a f*cking joke. And on top of all that, your charged shot gets cancelled after taking a hit and can only be charged again after Mega Man stops flashing from the invincibility frames. Imagine THAT in a game that relies so much on the charged shot…

Well, the graphics ARE indeed more vibrant than the NES games, and the levels themselves are still fine in regards to their structure, but that’s really the only good thing I can say about this thing. The overall execution was atrocious.

That was the best port I've ever played ever

This game is what made me find out the Game Gear loads stuff outside of it's screensize. That extra screen space actually made the game somewhat enjoyable.

There's literally nothing remarkable about this game otherwise outside of Toad Man being a fortress boss, just play the NES games.

this game has no reason to exist whatsoever, its literally just a demake of past mega man levels with screen crunch to put sonic 1 gba to shame.
only real redeeming factor is that its mostly mm5 stages which are still good even when piss easy for some reason

Relative to the Game Gear library, it's fine. Relative to the Mega Man franchise, it's bad. It's overly derivative and cheaply made. Cheapness aside tho, it at least 'feels' good to play, it's just that there's literally nothing here to justify playing this over 4 or 5 unless you ABSOLUTELY want to play everything in the Mega Man repertoire.

Added this game to my modded Wii to test Genesis Plus's ability to emulate Game Gear games. My initial impression was lukewarm, though I may return to this game someday just to say that I did...

Mission Perfect!

Ugh… I was dreading this one, and it looks like those feelings were completely warranted. This is a very strange pastiche of various NES Mega Man titles by an American developer (USA Gold) that clearly had no idea what they were doing. Horribly grating sound effects and music paired with short, amateurish remakes of classic levels and a Megaman that feels as bad to control as he’s ever felt. So many puzzling choices in this one. Megaman can only fire 2 shots at a time instead of 3, and all of the boss weapons reach new heights of uselessness. Just as well, for the first time in the series, the camera scrolls vertically as well as horizontally, making every second of this utterly nauseating. Interestingly enough, you can control the camera by holding down the jump button and using the D-pad as one would in a Sonic game. However, this technique is never actually taught to you, and, because of the unimaginable screen crunch, I’d imagine that most players would jump into nothingness and hope for the best. I’ll attempt to say something nice though: USA Gold had the good sense to make this roughly an hour long, and the graphics are pretty impressive! They’re clearly based on the NES games, but with added shading and some slightly brighter colors. Maybe I would’ve liked The Wily Wars more if it looked like this.

I’ve played some really bad Mega Man games, but, at this point, this one stands alone.

Looks like I'm apologising to Mega Man II sooner than I thought, what the fuck was this?

Despite being developed by a completely different company, Mega Man GG has an all too familiar holdover from the Game Boy titles. A hodgepodge of robot masters across different games, mostly to fill the back half of the game, and somehow there's now two portable Mega Man games that decided fucking Stone Man was a worthwhile addition to the robot masters. Shoutout to that part of the game making you go through Quick Man's entire level and then not even fight him, so cool.

Combined with absolute dog water sound effects and music, even by the standards of the Game Gear, and some of the absolute worst screen crunch I've witnessed this side of Sonic Genesis? Absolute dumpster tier.

Apenas Medíocre, é um MegaMan 5 super piorado

Yeah I'm not doing Mega Man 5 but with worse sound. It's not...the worst Mega Man game, it does feel like a Mega Man game on a budget though. Just there's much better out there. I'm not sure why you'd pick THIS game if you're not going through Mega Man's history but it's not the absolute worse feeling Mega Man game.

This has to be one of the weirdest Mega Man games I've ever played. At the surface it's an odd hybrid of MM4 and 5 but the jank starts to set in pretty quick. Some of this game's oddities include:
- Bouncing powerups
- Near useless special weapons (which just have generic names instead of their proper ones)
- Only two shots onscreen instead of the usual three
- Super fast Robot Masters with very short iframes (I had to use an E-Tank on fricking Toad Man)
- Dr. Wily explodes when defeated and Mega Man absorbs his non-existent powers like any other Robot Master LOL

The game itself is also very short, probably so it could be completed within the Game Gear's equally short battery life. Difficulty-wise it's not that bad but the stage layouts are almost identical to their NES counterparts so be prepared to make leaps of faith!

I remember wanting this game when reading about it as a kid in the mid-90s and it's pretty disappointing to see that it's become a $200+ game these days. Ah well at least there's emulation and flash carts

This game was both painfully easy and full of cheap hits/deaths. Mega Man is super durable, and barely takes damage from hits, and his buster is really powerful. However, the game's very tight screen space has a lot of leaps of faith, where you're likely to go down a pit or hit spikes.

The special weapons were all pretty bad in this game. I do think it's interesting putting "new" Robot Masters in the Wily Fortress itself, with an appropriately themed stage.

But yeah, a pretty mediocre classic Mega Man game. Could even be the worst if the DOS games didn't exist.

RG35XX

It’s mega man 5 but zoomed in and slower. And you have no idea how much worse this makes the game. Why does this even exist, and why did I play it?

I dont know what people are talking about when they say this game is awful. Once you actually play it, it is fine. It takes aspects mostly from Mega Man 5 and some from 4 and puts it in a small package. It has been Europeanized which is unfortunate but it is still Mega Man at its core. The game Gear is not a great system, but this is one that I think fits well in the library. Maybe people are just angry that they don't own a copy???

This is what happens when we let Bri'ish people touch Mega Man.
