There are many, many wonderful things about old school level design. Unfairness was not one of them, and boy oh boy does this game have that in droves. Couple that with a grating soundtrack and some bad glitches, and you end up with a mess. The game's only saving grace is the aesthetic, which is wonderful. It's unfortunate that most of the development time was dedicated to that instead of literally everything else.
A pretty good, if standard platformer. Aesthetically and musically it is phenomenal, and it does explore some lesser seen mechanics in platformers, including a fairly interesting boss fight mechanic based around the collectibles in the game
The main reason I abandoned it is due to a pretty steep difficulty spike in some of the water levels, and I grew tired of dying and being sent way back over and over. If difficulty was tweaked, or there were some easy skippable segments, I definitely would have finished it, but that specific level made me lose interest. Definitely play it if you can get access to it for free or cheap, and listen to the OST!
