Wandersong is a narrative driven puzzle platformer that is heavy on charm and light on mechanical depth. The writing, and the textual delivery of that writing, is exemplary. The overall story is incredibly hopeful but manages to just barely avoid becoming trite. And of course the music is very well composed, although the Bard's vocal patches can occasionally be a bit irritating.

Mechanically there's not a lot going on. Although the developers got a lot of mileage out of spinning the right joystick to sing, most of the game is very simple and easy. To counterbalance this low difficulty some sections are a bit repetitive, which slows the pacing down a bit too much. To really get the most out of this game you have to be prepared to stick through some mediocre gameplay sections for the sake of a masterfully crafted narrative.

¿Por qué resolver las cosas a espadazos cuando se puede cantar? Plataformas - puzzle original, con muchas interacciones chulas, una moraleja guay... Y a veces DEMASIADO texto. El rendimiento visual es muy inestable (en PC).

Held back by some technical issues and some weaker gameplay sections (both issues imo fixed in Chicory) this is a wholesome and overall positive story that more people should experience.

The game is well made, goofy story and funny but I just couldn’t get into the gameplay. Singing wheel is a cool idea but it didn’t grab me. There is a dedicated dance button though more games need that.

wonderful game with a neat style and a great cast of characters, even the side characters feel so full of life within the short amount of time you meet them. the story is strong, keeping its momentum throughout the entire game and ending on a great note (heh). the platforming was simple and fun, and the music wheel mechanic works well and is quite unique

the only complaint i have is that some sections of the games are tedious to get through, making it a bit of a slog to get through. however, i feel that the strong points of this game are enough to overlook this issue. it just means you gotta set aside the time to fully experience this game

if you have the time and like 2d platformers with a character-driven narrative, then i highly recommend picking up wandersong

One of my favorite games of all time, i LOVED the characters and the story a lot. It was perfect.

I'm thankful this exists. The whole world and its inhabitants are a joy to play with, and it's generally nice to see a world that's not utterly sad or not pretending to not be utterly sad. This feels like a very pure adaption of the hero's journey and it works perfectly. A very sweet adventure with so many cute ideas, can't recommend it enough.

This is the tale of one little bard travelling the world and singing to solve puzzles. And it is the best game I have ever played. The world is dripping with charm, filled with cute and interesting characters, hilarious and wholesome writing, packed with fun twists and turns for the story, and your only way to affect the world is by singing.

The singing mechanics are very cleverly implemented - each note corresponds to a colour and wherever you see the colour you can usually interact with that part of the world by singing that note. This results in a beautiful and excellently scored array of puzzles, interactions, and of course musical sections that never fail to delight.

This is a game brimming with atmosphere, the work that went into all the music is phenomenal, the innovative ideas behind the various challenges and how everything fits together is impressive, and the story had me in tears both of joy and sadness from beginning to end. One of my very few 5/5 games not because it's flawless, but because I feel that what it gets right it does so well that I'm compelled to overlook its flaws. It really just strikes a chord with me.

Where this lacks interesting gameplay it absolutely makes up for with its story and characters. They are tremendous! The three main characters are some of my favorite fictional characters now, and the plot takes you for a ride.

such a cute and fun game with a beautiful story

Wandersong is a cute, easygoing, and extremely wholesome puzzle game with a neat singing gimmick. The graphics look decent and are deceptively simple. At first, you feel the one-man-band vibe, but it quickly becomes VERY impressive with the insane tricks the dev/s pulled with using the graphics and gameplay so creatively. My first impression was that it reminded me of Pikuniku. Its really easygoing, and theres no difficulty whatsoever, so relax and enjoy it. The writing is easily A tier, very moving, wholesome, and engaging. I laughed many times, I spent a good portion of the game with a beaming smile, and I'm a guy who for whatever reason doesn't really smile much. And I also very nearly cried happiness at the end.

The story takes a while to get going, but once it does by golly does it speed off like a train, by chapter 2, I was heavily invested in the character progression and development, and wider story and was enthralled by the lovable characters at every single turn.

By chapter 3, I fell in love with the devs' sense of humour, they have the best kind of lighthearted internet culture you can find in laid back, creatively driven fandoms with a nod to the old style internet, think Homestuck (which there are s e v e r a l references to), Artfight, Newgrounds, etc. This kind of vibe is right up my alley, and I wish more netizens embraced it more. I'm trying to be a nicer and more wholesome netizen myself, this game inspires me towards that further.

In chapter 4 I pet the dog, did the bardy thing, and made a depressed young man happy. :D

By chapter 5, I was going crazy with all the insane tricks the dev was pulling, and my interest in The Bard and Miriam's relationship peaked and stayed for the rest of the game, I also realised that Audrey is a total bellend here.

Chapters 6 and 7 weren't as crazy as chapter 5, but the ending almost made me cry. Thats all I'll say about it.

I didn't pay any money for this, I got it as a Christmas present from a REALLY good friend. She really knows how to pick em. With hindsight from playing it, I would say its worth the A$30 theyre asking, but I wouldn't have gone for it until it went on sale for 60%+, maybe you should too if you're not totally convinced in how good it is or have a backlog and can wait to save some money.

Very cute and charming, was shocked at how genuine this game felt in terms of its themes and writing as I tend to bounce off hard when it comes to "quirky and twee" indie games but this felt like distilled hope in a precious little bottle and im happy I stuck with it all the way to the end this time (the playtime is so long because I shelved it for a year the first time and restarted it for this playthrough). The moment-to-moment gameplay itself ranged from middling to frustrating when the game decided it didn't feel like just being a rhythm game and there are bugs galore and easy to run into--nothing game breaking on my end but hard to ignore. Great experience, play it for yourself!

A unique 2D platformer RPG where you take on the role of a cheerful bard aiming to save the world with his singing. The game places an emphasis on music and harmony over traditional RPG heroics. The abilities of the music wheel change with each stage, making the gameplay charming, creative, and fresh. The characters, though quite simple in design, have distinguishing features. Interacting with them brings forth a touching narrative that explores themes of compassion in the face of adversity and overcoming insecurities.

Overall, it's an uplifting and touching adventure that fills you with hope and joy.

ps the game has problems running on high refresh rate monitors. I'd recommend running the game on 60fps capped (change this from NVIDIA control panel or equivalent steps for AMD/Intel GPUs as there is no fps limiter setting in-game)

One of the most underrated indies out there! A game where you sing instead of fight and go on a colorful and charming adventure.

this shit made me cry more than mother 3

Probably one of the best indie games I have ever played. Cute atmosphere and a story that kept me hooked throughout its entirety

This game was freaking amazing. During my first couple of hours it felt like it would become my new favorite game, and after completing it now that feels even truer! The singing mechanic is so fleshed out, and the game never stops to provide unique ways to use it to solve puzzles. Also singing is just super fun lol.

And yeah this game is so good when it comes to exploring. I didn't need to look up any walkthroughs; walking around and experimenting was enough (and I love being able to do that in games and be confident that I'm still making some progress).

Also I love the way this game uses the Steam Achievements, since in video games, only the hero can get the trophies. Super clever, I hope everyone can play this with the Internet on so they can see when Achievements show up and realize what's going on.

Another thing I gotta add is the damn story hits deep. Almost on the verge of tears at one point. I wouldn't consider it "dark" but its not afraid to get serious. The cutesy children's book art style is icing on the cake and I LOVE how the colors change depending on the scene. I took so many pictures during this game (I wish Steam let us record videos too).

Super epic game, I'm sure this will stay on my mind for a long time. I was kinda bummed out when it ended since as far as I know there isn't even a post game (I don't wanna stop being the bard ;-;). But its okay... The End is inevitable.

i cried way too much. It's really cute and it really deserves a try from pretty much anybody

the gameplay isn’t varied enough to keep it fresh. I still loved it though. The art style is unique and cute, although simple. Love the writing for the most part. Can be witty and gets a lot of laughs. I like the narrative although cliche, with thwarting a god’s plan, Nobody believing in you, proving yourself against all odds. It’s nothing I’ve never seen before but it’s crafted interesting characters and gameplay that make it feel new (using your song to fight, win people over, make friends with yetis, sing sea chanties, calm ghosts, start a factory revolution, etc. Everything feels like a side quest because how you make your way through each location in an unusual and meandering way. The have a dance mechanic that tries unsuccessfully to keep the gameplay fresh. It is funny though. Wish there were more opportunities to make your own songs. Feels like a RPG with how varied and long the journey is; The classic formula: walking, driving, sailing, flying (to keep things from getting stale). Reminds me of Earthbound’s absurd humor. Some unexpected difficult platforming in later areas. The time mechanic in the factory town was awesome. Makes the world feels alive when characters have a routine. Too long for its simple dialogue heavy gameplay. Some brief commentary on the stubborn and emotionless attitude of rulers toward their citizens. Also commentary on imposter syndrome, the hero stubbornly sticking to her destiny to prove herself as the hero even though she was starting to have doubts.

Wandersong is a cute game about a guy who sings, it's really great and I really enjoyed the story.

I couldn't avoid playing this game after playing my all-time favorite game (so far)... Chicory.

Chapter 1: 🎬
It took me almost the whole chapter to get into this game! I tried it a few different times, but eventually, when the second chapter started, it kinda clicked :>

Chapter 2: 🥁
I enjoyed ordering beans, making a theme song, and... getting the band together 😎. The game didn't hit until the start of chapter 3, though.

Chapter 3: 🏴‍☠️
This is where I got fully invested in the game, I'd say. Exploring with the pirates, following the map, and finding secrets felt really fun. It reminded me of a game I used to play as a child. Often indie games feel like reading a children's book. It gives me a joy that is hard to match...

Chapter 4: 🏭
The game took a very unexpected turn for me here. It focused on the whole time mechanic, which I liked. It reminded me of Stardew/Animal Crossing, with how you had to be exact on time a lot of the time. It felt similar to both Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the film Klaus...!

Chapter 5: 🦄
This was probably the longest chapter and... one of the best. I didn't care much for the conflict between the people, basically? But otherwise, it had a lot of fun things. I almost expected it to be done, but then I got the magical school arc, which was really fun, with Metroidvania mechanics???

Chapter 6: 🌌
Kinda short? Not much to say about it. It felt a little simple, and apparently, every indie game has a mountain climbing section!

Chapter 7: 🏡 Mimimimimimimi

Well, while I'm still considering Chicory my favorite game...? This game was phenomenal. It did so many creative things, had some awesome songs, fun characters, awesome sound design, and really engaging dialogue. I did, however, miss the more open-world styled exploration in Chicory... I preferred the top-down view more. Wandersong, to me, almost felt too linear at points with not enough secrets to find. I'm not sure if that's a negative for the game itself or just my opinion!

Can't WAIT to see what Other Wishes do next!!!

ON THE FLOOR CRYING LOVE THIS FUCKING GAME

My indie game of the year 2018. Admittedly I didn’t play a lot of the bigger indie games that year so this was mostly a close race between Minit and this game but I went with Wandersong. It’s a silly game with very simple gameplay and puzzles but the characters, story, and overall vibes the game has are more then enough to justify this achievement. The game is long so there is plenty of time to get to know all the characters and the lore of the world. The climax of this game is also beautiful and got me very emotional. Music is just really important and powerful to me. Great game that I can recommend to anyone with a bit of time on their hands.
