the first half of this game is fantastic. you're always moving forward, cole is a hero. but vice desk is where it all falls apart. earle is an asshole who never gets what he deserves, and the ending of vice feels rushed.
arson desk is good at first, but than it becomes so confusing with all the different parts.
the gameplay in this game can be absolutely amazing. the shooter parts are shit, but everything else is amazing. the interviews are so satisfying, looking around rooms (while tedious), is so much fun. and the chases are the funnest parts, while also used sparingly.
this is a story about cole moving up, and than toppling down, to then have to try and feel like a good person again. but his death in the end doesn't feel worth it. sure he sacrifices himself, but it isn't reflected apon in a satisfying way.
i do have to give credit where it's due: the goodbye from cole is both quick, yet impactful.
overall, just making it so that earle gets arrested, would make the total experience so much better.
story gets a 3.
gameplay gets a 5.

I loved this game when I started—I had just come off of a James Ellroy binge and loved the atmosphere. I became disenchanted as I went on. LA Noire has a beautifully detailed city that is just… dead. Most of the buildings are inaccessible outside of missions, and the inhabitants are just scenery. Outside of the main missions, there’s not much to do except the radio calls, which are usually just chases or shoot outs. I might have liked it more had I not played Red Dead Redemption right before, which felt much more alive in comparison.

I knew that this game sucked when "doubting" one detail of a rape victim's story caused my illustrious cop protagonist to shout at her and accuse her of making the whole thing up. Not only is L.A. Noire a profoundly shitty game in every aspect - from its flaccid gunplay to its malformed choice mechanics to its muddled narrative - it willfully misunderstands the noir genre at every juncture. Playing L.A. Noire feels like sleepwalking your way through the worst L.A. Confidential fanfiction imaginable. If you put a photo of Ross MacDonald next to a copy of L.A. Noire, it sheds a single tear. Truly one of my least favorite games of all time. Rest in shit, Cole Phelps.
Pretty good game that slowly loses its steam as it goes on due to repetition and pacing.
Great character drama and an intriguing plot that'll leave you pretty satisfied.
My main gripes are that it slows down pretty hard around the latter half and the cases just aren't very interesting anymore at that point, story stuff makes up for it at least.

I loved this game. I wasn't expecting too like it but it was truly great. A unique experience with tremendous production values. The facial animation is superb. The story is as good as a HBO hard hitting drama. The only thing I didn't care for was the open world and you can totally skip that. What an awesome game. A must play. One of the best games of the year. It's going to be a hard choice when it's time to pick game of the year. It's absolutely a candidate though.
