I don't understand people who say they play this game to chill out, but maybe they just mean "focus exclusively on one thing for a while," which is what it does for me. Which is nice, I honestly prefer that to chilling out, it's more relaxing in the end.

I didn't play all the puzzle mode, but it doesn't seem anywhere near as fun as the rest.
Good vibrations

unparalleled vibes. even if falling blocks aren't your thing, you've GOTTA love the dynamic skins and music

Some tracks are God tier (Shinin'), others haven't aged so well...

A remaster of a classic rhythm game, its nice to be able to play this on my switch.

AAAA I'M LUMIIIIIIIIIIIIIING

Part true puzzle game part vibes, this is a good one for just hanging out in and enjoying the music or really trying to increase your skills and solve puzzles.

快楽原則なパズルゲーム。ルールは簡単だけどやりつづけるのは意外と難しい。手数がカギ?

Mondo Grosso - Shinin' is stuck on repeat in my head rent free

Miziguchi sure knows how to put together an hour of relaxing gameplay that stretches the player into taking different approaches, track by track, skin by skin. I realized in completing the remaster that there were some tunes that I hadn’t heard (at least while playing) in years. Lumines is, if anything, an underrated puzzle game that stands on its own in terms of originality. It’s also interesting to play through it after Tetris Effect and to see which ideas Miziguchi decided to keep and which he’s moved past.

A pretty fun puzzle game with an amazing aesthetic and soundtrack. Definitely one of those games that you sit down to play for 5 minutes and end up entranced by for 2 hours.

This was my most significant blind spot amongst Mizuguchi's synaesthesia games and I'm so happy I finally went ahead and tried it. I'm absolutely terrible at it but Lumines' block-stacking gameplay hasn't aged at all nor has the groovy diverse soundtrack that is par of the course for his work. I slightly prefer Rez's visuals and Tetris Effect's gameplay, but there is still a place for Lumines in my heart and it'd be a lie to say I'm not already crippingly addicted.

There's few things as addicting as this. Puts me into a flow state. Don't expect much in the way of game modes but you really only need one.

Played on both Switch and Steam. (Note: I have not played the original, so this is my first interaction with the game and have really nothing to say on its stature as a remaster.)

Slick and inventive - Lumines is a great update to the tetromino puzzles; it's focus on music and style gives it more than just an added personality but an extra layer of player involvement.

For it is how you play the game that determines the texture of the sound scape for the songs you play with as well as how fast you need to make you decisions. In effect, the game allows you to become a digital-age DJ. Once you become adept to the game's techniques and approaches, you''ll come to appreciate your control over how the song develops as you move through the puzzle.

The catchy soundtrack and interesting visuals elevate Lumines among the best modern puzzle games.

The only downside I have found is that it's not really possible to play for short sessions like other puzzle games.

Lumines is a solid puzzle game that never really clicked with me. The presentation is absolutely killer, though. I don't think any other puzzle game looks this good. The music in here is banging. The gameplay just isn't that exciting. It might be one of those games that gets better the more you play, but I don't plan on playing that much more of it. I'd recommend this to any puzzle game fans who want some nice visual and sonic flair.

A pretty interesting and unique spin on the Tetris formula, would recommend.

oops I think I have gotten too good at Lumines

this is still nice to just head-empty-no-thoughts to, but thirty minutes into every run-- with my board still looking as clean & tidy as Marie Kondo’s kitchen-- I tend to just lose interest and hold down to stack out.

The music will always be good but Electronic Symphony’s was better. Despite my middling rating here, I would instantly pay money for an expansion that added in the soundtracks from Live, Supernova and Symphony. Mizuguchi get at me. 📞

Memes aside, it's better than Tetris. This game takes its two colors all the way to the god damn bank, adding music that feels straight from the 2000s clubs and modernizes it for an audience that likes QoL features. It's got everything you need to understand what Lumines is: the good, the great, and also puzzle mode. Even with me saying that, it's worth the 100% journey. Especially since it's the only one in the series I'll always say that for.

An addicting simple puzzler in the vein of tetris but with a good sense of style and variety to the visuals and music

A videogame about providing accompaniment.
A videogame based on companionship.

Simple, well-executed action puzzler with an entrancing presentation. Locks you into the same mental flow-state as Tetris and rhythm games where you're hyper-focused and time melts away. I enjoyed the progression of unlocking new skins for the board as you reach new high scores. It isn't the type of game that'll leave a lasting impression on me, but it's a great way to zone out and reflect when I've got 30 minutes to kill.

Oh so this why they made HD rumble.

Arcade Mode is fun once but it gets dull having to repeat the same backdrops when you lose. Additionally, the challenge modes are all either way too easy or way too hard.

It does single-handedly justify the inclusion of HD Rumble in the Switch controllers though. This must be why they cost £40 each.
