All-around improvement of MP1, with some nice additions thrown in. I like the board-specific outfits everyone wears and the endgame cutscenes with the 1st place person. Decent selection of minigames and they brought back the good ones as well. I do miss the MP1 jank though and item minigames are boring and time-consuming.

The closest Mario Party ever got to godliness. Less of the minigames are designed to kill you IRL, items and shops add more depth, the boards are well made, and the little cutscenes to reveal the winner are cute.

It's Mario Party. Better than 1 I think.
This is in my opinion my favorite of all the Mario party games, it retained a lot of the classic charm that the original game had but also added some new aspects. Old mini games were improved, new mini games were overall a lot of fun and the boards were much better designed this time. Plus how could you not love all the little outfits the characters would wear on each one? I mean obviously Pirate land was the best one but that's beside the point. This one also removed the single player aspect of the first one but again I don't think that's really a bad thing.
A great party game that will never go stale. Fun playing against computers and friends.

I honestly don't see this as the best Mario Party game, compared to the majority of people out there. It certainly gave a few more things to the Mario Party formula, but a lot of this was added more so to the single player experience than the multi-player one. Still though, its Mario Party, even if it does borrow heavily from the first, its still a wonderfully horrible game to play with friends.
Possibly the best Mario Party game while still housing quite a few bad minigames. Different worlds and costume changes are fun.

make no mistake when i say I Am A Mario Party Expert And Yes I Have A Mental Illness. this is the closest the series ever got to having a perfect party game before feeling the need to bog down every sequel with sometimes good and sometimes incomprehensible changes.

theres nothing more 'mario party' than getting chance time on the last turn and take 3 stars from the person in first place.
Mario Party 2 takes everything great about the first Mario Party, fixes nearly every flaw, and adds a fantastic selection of minigames, great boards, and tons of charm that is unique to it which makes it hold up great to this day as it carved out the formula Mario Party's are using 20 years later. While later Mario Party's have outdone it an complexity and strategic balance, Mario Party 2's simple charm and great selection of minigames and side modes still puts in on par with entries much later in the series.
I wish more games put different genre costumes on characters for every level. Mario Party 2 ran so Kingdom Hearts could walk.

This is the one my SO always wants to play, so I'm very attached to it. However, you can't play as Toad, so it's horrifically flawed.
If you are going to play a Mario Party game, this is the cream of the crop for a reason.
