Awesome platformer that's much more appealing to me than classic Mega Man. The dash ability and wall-jumping make the game much more fast-paced than the classic games. MMX provides a solid challenge throughout and upgrades are well hidden and a joy to discover on your own. Good on the game for allowing customizable controls as well. Not much else to say, MMX is definitely a classic.
I really want to like this game more than I do, but something about it just doesn't feel right to me. The controls just feel sticky in a way I couldn't move past. I get why people adore this game, I really do, and I really wish I could be there with them. I love the art and the design. But it just never clicked with me.
This was the only Mega Man X game I truly played through, because the genius of its design captivated me so much. This is easily the definitive Mega Man I'd recommend to anyone who hasn't played any. There's plenty of replay value to be found in upgrades. The tutorial level alone, from an analysis standpoint, is a thing of beauty.
The Best Mega Man game hands down. I would even say it's one of the best games ever made. Super Fun, Super Challenging, Super Rewarding, Incredible Controls and Abilities to make you feel like a true badass. And the Music is godlike in how great every track is. Mega Man X is absolutely a game everyone should play.
absolutely untouchable in every aspect. the soundtrack soars, the level design is intricate and flows well, the robot masters are memorable and fun to fight. Exploring each stage and finding everything feels great, and ripping through it in one sitting after you finally get good at it never gets old. For real, if I could only play one game for the rest of my life this would be on the list of contenders.
Real solid game in almost every single way.
Not sure why no one ever mentions this, but all the backtracking and general effort required to get all the upgrades is tedious as fuck, especially when the endgame is balanced around a fully-powered X. It's a problem that has plagued the series since, and it started with this game. It completely destroys any replayability that the games would have had, too.
Other than that (and mediocre bosses), I have no other complaints. Good level design, great music.

I missed this back on the Super Nintendo. The Mega Man series seemed to figure itself out with its first sequel, so I never played any further.
What surprises me now is just how basic this game is. Its levels are barely even designed. I’m left with weightless jumps, simple pea-shooting, and the insubstantial, flickery feel of the thing. The wall-slide is the only way to feel I’m even there.
Mega Man X requires precision and yet is so empty and repetitive. It’s not a good enough platformer, not a good enough shooter. It’s a hybrid, and it bores me.
