Quite fun. If you're into Mega Man, this is probably one of the best.

I remember being enamoured with this game's aesthetic since I was a kid. I love the pixel art, the colour palette, the robot design, this game basically shaped my taste in art style. But unfortunately I could never get into it, since I really sucked at playing it.

This is no thanks to the game's structure and open-ended progression. On one hand, it's really cool to have the option to tackle the game's challenges in basically any order, it makes for great replayability. On the other hand, this really sucks on a first playthrough, since you could encounter difficulty walls on your first level, with your character having a puny health bar and no upgrades.

Of course this is a staple of the Megaman franchise, and this game makes some adjustments to mitigate this frustration: there is a non-optional, very well designed tutorial level for example. Not an overbearing, condescending one, but a subtle, silent tutorial that prods the player's creativity and helps them figure out the controls on their own, instead of telling them.

Unfortunately this is not really enough, in my opinion. After the tutorial you can choose any stage you want, but you really should start with chill penguin, since it gives you an upgrade (the dash) that is basically essential for every stage in the game. The game really should have at least hinted at this, but no, you just have to figure it out on your own by faceplanting on up to seven stages.

Nowadays, in the age of online walkthroughs it's kind of a moot point, and a frustrated player can just look up an optimal route. Doing so kind of robs the game of any challenge, though, since every robot master has a specific weakness that makes their fight a cakewalk. I would have appreciated if choosing the right weapon gave you a moderate edge in the fight, but here you can just hard-counter basically any boss with no challenge whatsoever.

The fact that every stage could realistically be the player's first also makes the difficulty curve pretty lopsided and front loaded, with later levels being extremely easy for a fully-equipped X.

Level design is quite inventive and varied, with little secrets cleverly sprinkled around. Some levels even drastically change if you defeat a specific robot master before tackling them, which shows an extreme lever of care and love from the developers.

Playing Vectorman might have permanently tainted my view on the Mega Man series, because even though that game is far from perfect, its controls are so insanely good that even this supposed masterpiece sits wrong with me. I'm sorry.

melhor q Megaman clássico

One of the best games I have ever played.

I think this is the one good Mega Max X game tbh, and the Classic Series is better overall.

really liked this game as a child , although it being pretty hard

please play this if you haven't its so good

one of the best games of it's era, and probably ever

Some of my friends compared this to Super Metroid both in gameplay and quality

like it's great but I didn't hear "Super Metroid OST Overgrown with Vegetation" ONCE

Mega Man X was the reset that the Mega Man franchise desperately needed, and God is it great. The game is fun as hell, the soundtrack is great, and I absolutely adore the sprite work.

Pros: Dashing and wall jumping does feel pretty good, I'll give it that. Charging your blaster feels better than ever too, the effects of the blasts as they hit enemies are on point, you feel the impact of them. The bosses are all very tough, sometimes too tough, but again, it's Mega Man, trial and error is the name of the game, and either you like that, or you don't.

Cons: ...and I don't really like it. I recall the Launch Octopus boss being quite a pain in particular, with its myriad of tiny projectiles and whirlpool attacks. Just, ugh, alright, I'll keep doing this over and over until I get it right... That's Mega Man! And yes, it's improved over the NES games, the knockback isn't as bad, the field of view feels somewhat improved, but the issues are still there. There's still the inability to aim your basic blaster, there's still the enemy respawn issue, there's still knockback, there's still those level designs prior to bosses that take cheap shots at you. Not as bad, certainly, but enough to tell me, this still isn't my type of game. The game even starts you off forcing you to lose a fight, which, that sucks design-wise, I find that a poor teacher of mechanics, teaching a player by forcing failure. But in a way, it does teach the player early what type of game this is, and whether you'll like it or not.

What it means to me: I recall my older bro renting this game here and there, and he was a fan, most people are fans of this one. It is cooler too, this X guy looks far less dorky than NES Mega Man, for sure. In the end though, I didn't like this one enough to play the sequels, sorry.

Probably my favorite game of all time. It's not flawless, tough it's very, very good. Peak platforming, and the best in the entire series.

one of the games i've played most times in my life

I know praising the original Mega Man X is nothing new or unique, but it has to be my absolute favorite retro era game by a long shot. It is probably the tightest gaming experience I've ever played, being easily 100%able in 2-4 hours. While many (including myself) find it difficult and frustrating on their first go, it is extremely rewarding to increase your mastery of the challenges the game presents. It also of course features one of the bangerest of banger soundtracks in ant game. While I have yet to play X4, this game shines brighter than any of it's sequels that I've played thus far. (I listed the platform as SNES as I do own the original cart, but I played on Switch and PC through the Legacy Collection.)

A trilha sonora dessa porcaria é uma banger.

A great evolution from the classic MegaMan games.
Besides the changes of the graphical style, we have also a great change on the gameplay, allowing to player to experience the stages with more action and in different ways.
The story gets more mature, introducing us to a world 100 years after the where classic games takes place, and, finally, we can feel like that the story will decently move forward without the same formula of story. Well, almost.
This game has lots of cool details that enrich the gameplay, the one I most love certainly is the fact that by defeating one boss, you can affect how the stage of another one will work. Making the playthrough of each person be quite unique.
It's a great start for this series, although, honestly, I never clicked with, dunno why.

Odeio chefes com mais de duas fases.

Fun game with a guide but honestly it's pretty fucked up that they just have you trial and error until you get the dash like just give it to me bro

olha, eu entendo a importância dele pra serie e reconheço que é um ótimo jogo, mas não consigo considerar ele como meu favorito, pra mim, é só um jogo bom, apenas isso.

Very fun game, though I kind of sucked at it! The Maverick designs were great.

The last level is way too hard

The only bad part is the sigma 1 level
Otherwise, pretty great

This game is really good. The levels are all amazing and after unlocking the dash, X feels really good to control. Soundtrack is also a banger. I like how levels change depending on what Mavericks you've beaten. Great game. I don't like the final boss fight, but I really liked all the story cutscenes in the game.

Solid game. It is very solid. The music is SUPERSOLID meaning it is the best in the whole megaman series maybe.

I know everybody loves this game alot but I really prefer X2 and X3's more open and varied levels and bigger amount of collectibles.

I still don't really know how to get the Hadoken

While it's not my favorite game in the series Mega man x 1 does probably deserve to be the most popular* game in the series.

Basically everything in x1 is just really good by mega man standards. Dashing and wall jumping make for more interesting platforming then classic mega-man, basically every character design in this game is great, the soundtrack is arguably the best in the franchise (let a lone the x series) and you have a pretty satisfying collection of maverick weapons and upgrades.

Only real complain I have with this game is that the Sigma stages feel kinda short and less climactic then the best wily stages from classic mega-man but overall it's just a really tight and fun mega-man platformer
