There are parts of this game that suck sure, like the misleading passwords for the sigma stages, or all of sigma 1 for that matter, but once you get past those very tiny down spots, they game itself rules. Memorable catchy music, great level design and balanced special weapons all work to make you feel like a badass. The game is challenging to boot, with you never feeling like the bosses are too easy, at least early on in the game. This is such a good mega man game, and platformer, I suggest everyone plays it.
Sick game and a great start for the series. I know it's a staple of Mega Man, but I still have to say how getting past each Maverick in your own order and finding out how to take on them is really entertaining and lends itself to tons of replay value. The music is simply amazing all around.
The last stages can be quite challenging, but rewarding. My only issue with them is that they're a little awkwardly paced with the bosses, especially when I compare it to the sequel. The final boss was also very difficult, and defeating him was so absolutely satisfying that I cannot quite express it with words.
Great game and I don't think it has any meaningful enough shortcomings.

One thing that always strikes me is how phenomenal the sound design is. Yes, the music is obviously fantastic, but the BLAST of a charged Mega Buster never fails to impress. Dashing around, climbing up walls... It's just so much fun. While the story is nothing special, there's this quality to the X bootup cutscene that pulls at my imagination. And then the title screen! And the intro stage!! Someone at Capcom knew how to bring the HYPE. Timeless!!!!
X is a near perfect platformer. It moves along with an absolutely astounding soundtrack, phenomenal theming, and progression-based upgrades driving the game. The weapons all feel fun and useful, which is something the classic series really struggled with on the NES.
X is a game all about improving, and the player growing alongside X feels so fluid and natural that it's hard to beat. Sigma is difficult final boss that leads to the kind of catharsis you can only get from games like this once you finally get that last hit in. My only change would be to have the dash be default.

Still a classic.
Mega Man X is a lot rougher coming back than the last time I played, with about half the levels being a bit simplistic but still SO heavily carried by the rocking music. The backtracking I can just genuinely do without too, as secret-hunting on this one in general is really boring, including even a couple of the minibosses they throw in front of it.
But what shines the most here is the game's strong as hell energy, and the bosses that are almost all excellent. Sigma 4 in its entirety still gives me a load of trouble to this day, and they're all very fair to learn if a bit ridiculous at times. Still my favorite of the action-platformer Mega Mans.

This is a contender for one of the single greatest video games ever made. Tight controls, amazing weapons, that grunge as fuck soundtrack, the incredible spritework, the feel of X growing as a fighter signified by him gaining the Armor Set that makes him look similar to Zero. Everything in this game has been crafted for one of the best experiences I've ever had, a game I have had the opportunity of learning inside and out over the past 5 years since I started playing it. Just an excellent game.
